I just bought the Extreme dvd (download off the website) and I love it. Awesome format too, lots of quick lessons that get right to the point and are great fun. Thanks for making a great set, I'll be buying the others no doubt.
@MrCoolTre This has 3 notes per beat, the fourth is the 1st note of the next beat. A 4 stroke has 4 notes per beat, the first note of the next beat is not included. You will notice the difference in sound and feel if you play them to a metronome or steady beat.
@jackwontknow1 i like lower too cause i play alot of metal so the deeper sound meshes better with garbage... and idk, i think the toms sound good. plus for as long as this guys been playing id say he knows what hes doing and tuned them right... maybe your ears are bad XD just messing man. its all in a matter of opinion.
@jinzodude In a quadruplet all four notes are evenly weighted (4 32nd Notes) and two of them would fit into one beat (8 32nds to one beat)...16th note triplets are six to a beat..basically doubling up on a triplet (Think One by Metallica..the Darkness Riff section)..he's taking half of a sixlet (half a beat..the 1-trip-let part) and playing an eighth note at the end (the &)
Hope that helped..no clue if it made sense though haha
@KaitouBloodrayne not really (except the metallica reference which kinda helped) oh well...i'm probably going to take a music theory class next semester anyways :/
to all the people who keep asking about the tuning of drums in these type of videos, its not all about the tuning. it also has a LOT to do with the type of microphones used to record the video, if any of the frequencies has been modified in any way, the accoustics of the room the video is being recorded in, the wood the drums are made of (and thickness), and the list goes on. Hope this opens some eyes. not trying to be mean, but take these into account before getting your hopes up.
How did you get to play drums to earn a living? What kinds of things did you do as a teenager or in college to help yourself? I hear it's very hard to be a full-time drummer and I'm just wondering if you have any tips to help me make this a career.
I love those toms , i have the exact same rack shown in the vid, its amazing, i just dont have the for lack of a better word, infrastructure to mount my toms like that
awesome. neil peart uses this technique a lot in his drumming. thanks man you've helped me a lot drumming. maybe you can check out my videos sometime?
oh and another thing. a lot of us learned to read music by sounding it out in our heads, so he's calling it "1-trip-let-and" and playin a beat for each sylable. im probably just confusing the hell out of you. sorry
WELL i guess a triplet doesnt have to be played at the start of a quarter know but that was the best way i could explain it. if i got more into it i would just start confusing everyone, including myself :0
leontank ...he's refering to them as triplets because that is what the beat is called on a sheet of music, or in a music bar. He is playin in 4/4 time. There are 4 quarter notes in one bar. a triplet is played at the start of a quarter note, thus you could fit 4 sets of triplets in one bar in 4/4 time. i know that probably sounds confusing. if you go look up some general music information online i think youll be able to understand it a little better.i hope that helps :op
pretty cool... I like what this guy is doing... If he broke down stuff just a tad more.. and maybe added some more technique with his solos...i would consider his dvd.. I just dont think anyone touches jojo's or tommy igoes dvds especially the new one thats comin out
totally agree! i cant wait for the new hand dvd from igoe.. i live relatively close to nyc should reallly get out and see him... hes simply the best.. he seems like such a compassionate, caring, guy from his dvds
You are all overlooking the most important piece of the puzzle. His electronics are top shelf. Anyone can buy and tune a set of drums to sound good. His recording equipment is top of the line and the acoustics of that room also play into that sweet sound.
If you put him and that kit in a garage with cheap microphones it would sound lime the rest of you tube!! LOL
those are Evans ec2 coated about 30 dollars a piece or so they won't make your set sound as good as his tho he's got an extremely high end kit randy how does it feel to have the best sounding kit on YouTube?
Finally mastering these! took a while but it feels so very good. specially when from rack tom to snare and back, oooh yea.and down from rt3 to the floor tom
hey rvp can u pleas help me what settings do u use on your torque key for your batter and resonent heads cause I can't my new forums to sound good at all and I don't have money for ec2 coated heads yet
How do you get your hands that fast. I've been drumming for about a year and i can't seem to get my speed up to being able to do something like 32nd notes consistently.
I saw you were using singles, and is it ur wrist or fingers? Because i saw in another one of your videos that you said to mostly use your wrist.. i could've misunderstood though.
Hey Van, what do you use as your resonant heads and how tight are your heads on the batter and resonant head. As always your videos are great and informative. Keep on doing it. Peace.
First of, your videos (and playing, obviously) are fantastic, really helpful. I was just wondering, is that an Emperor X on your snare or is it the Controlled Sound?
