  • muy para adelante, nomas verte la cara supe que iba a ser un delirio el video x)

  • I'm not hating, but why do you have a rug on the wall?

  • @simster97 He's got a rug on the wall to dampen the sound reflections I think.

    This is one cool instrument!

  • U looks freaky :)

  • Very impressive!!

  • This is fucking amazing. I NEED one of these for my live sets NOW! If you ever make any more, please put me on your pre-order list.

  • Groovy man i love your rug.

  • Amazing work !

  • 8-bit madness!!

    i love the SID sounds!!

  • really epic man

  • This is beyond amazing. Rock on, man!

  • moog

  • I bet u piggybacked those SIDs, SID kicks ass! ^_^

  • lol Dude it looks like u have a Flux Capacitor surface mounted to that C=64 ^_^

  • AWESOME BRO u are the god

  • amazing...............

  • Awesome :-) !

  • Machinae Supremacy is a band from Luleå, Sweden that combines modern heavy metal and alternative rock with chiptunes. Self-defined as "SID metal", many of their songs use a SidStation that features the SID chip of the Commodore 64. <-- Nice! One of my favourite bands :)

  • That is weirdly kick-ass - as a C64 and synth fan - I can say that is truly a weird monster!

  • Genuinely looks like you could destroy an alien spaceship with that thing!

  • This.. THIS is the instrument I wanted! Well actually it's kind of a portamenteau of what I wanted... I want to get a keytar and make it play sid sounds.. and wow here it is... how in the flark do I get something like this? I have very low technical skills and zero electronics and programming skills. Haha.

  • @crudface there is a thread on the midibox dot org forum about patches, and people are posting single ones on there. I am sure that they would be appreciated. The ones I have made so far are a little bland but I plan to put mine up soon.

  • @crudface no probs. By the way which arpeggio patch did you use?

  • @bytesabre All the patches are custom! Someday i'll release them, once I've buit up enough to fill a few banks...

  • I saw this thing a year ago. It caused me to discover the midibox project. I now own a SammichSID, a Yamaha SHS-10, a pro audio soundcard, and a copy of Ableton. I have parts for a Midibox FM on the way and am about to be starting a joint project to make music for a small independant film festival. Youtube changes people :-)

  • @bytesabre Wow man, this seriously made my day. I'm glad Giana inspired you to come over to the dark side!

  • КОВЕР!11

  • that thing looks hella complicated

  • oh, and like other people have said, you need to start manufacturing these.

  • it plays fucking harmonies for you. what the fuck. that's awesome.

  • freak

  • Ковёр!

  • Mate you have to start manufacturing these. You could make some serious cash. i will pre-order one now please. Amazing. I dont think i can live without this instrument.

  • @USBKebabMachine You can't easily get the SID chips to make them. There are lots of fake ones on the market now too. The project behind this also prohibits selling them commercially. That doesn't mean you can't talk someone else into building a kit for you though... Have a look at the SammichFM, it is easy to build and the parts are still manufactured new so you can easily get them. Go have a look at that and think about building one inside a home made keytar :)

  • WOW AWSOME! ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SELLING THIS?

  • the flux capacitor

  • Really Sick Dude!

  • that carpet is sweet

  • @Davejimjr It really ties the room together.

  • Ocean loader Ocean loader Ocean loader !!

If you make a video with the ocean loader i promisse to watch it at least a 100 times :)

  • Awsome ...

  • ..............I FUCKING WANT THIS INSTRUMENT.

  • Incredibly awesome. [respect]

  • DO WANT

  • amazing

  • Gwildor would be able to travel in time and space with this thing in his hands.

  • GUGLIELMO MARCONI of C64 synth i czan belive in it!!! you are amazing

  • one man journey to star trek and beyond...

  • I can hear your neighbours already.. OMG he's busy again with that loud thing.. what is it is this supposed to be music..

just kidding man your awesome ;).

  • u look like youve been building that thing for a while, get some sleep man lol.

  • oh my god.

    your keytar is rad!!

  • nice :D

  • what dat carpet doin on da wall ?''??????????

  • the HENDRIX of Sid'theisizers!!!!!!!!! I love it.... KEEP UP THE SWEET WORK!

  • I would buy that D=

  • You're too cool man.

  • i want a keytar, so killer!!!!

  • cool man but you look like a pedifile.

  • LOVING IT!

  • such a killer phatness to it! you dont need to know math when you can BING it

  • Awesome! I can't decide if this is retro or futuro.

  • Aweaome! I can't decide if this is retro or futuro.

  • holy crap, dude! you are looking like me, i thought it was me in this video - awesome music! maybe you are my lost twin brother or so #LOL where are you from?

  • simply amazing!

  • 11 people didn't understand what they just witnessed..

  • Awesome stuff.

  • right·eous!

  • Very nice !

  • YOU should have being composing/playing/doing the soundtrack for Tron 2.0!

  • I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU WHEN I GROW UP!!!!

Wait... I think I'm older than you... crap. Anyway, you're my hero.

  • Amazing creative and great style. Bravo.

  • that thing actually has style, makes the roland axe synth look a little rubbish actually!

  • Whenever I watch this it still blows my mind everytime. I could listen to you play this all day

  • If I had the money I would PAY you to build these.

  • Ok. This was awsome. Really impressive stuff dude! . Next time use some hair gel ;)

  • What's up with the led-grid? Looks like a buggy implementation of "life".

  • Wow you're a genius! (I can tell by the fact that you built something so AMAZING, yet could not comb your hair - telltail sign of a genius) Of course I am the opposite, all about the hair, but I couldn't make something that would impress a 5 year old. I do however have my Commodore 64 that hasn't worked since 1996 or so...I only have a simple Yamaha SHS-10, but I wonder if I could figure a creative way to incorporate any of the pieces the way you have. Great job.

  • @TRJ22487 I too recently aquired an SHS-10. I am getting a sammichSID box which is a kit you can assemble which is based on the same project as this one was based on, in fact researching how this machine was made lead me to discover the sammichSID. You might want to look in that direction, although, be warned that the guy making those already announced his last batch ever 2 batches ago...

  • Intresting instrument :)

  • @crudface Hey! I was wondering how much it costs to build, and how long it took you to make.. Would you be interested in building one for sale??! I want one SOO bad! =D

  • Dude the world is a more interesting place with you in it,this machine is amazing and the knowhow to make such a device must be mind amazingly complex.Total respect man.

Check out my channel for some synths I am making in software, also i have some nice synth vids of mine.

Great work man,you must be a genius or something.

  • Most amazing thing I've seen/heard for quite some time!

  • oh my god, i am seriously impressed!!!!

  • This is a mind blowing instrument. What a technical achievement you have made here. Fantastic. How long did it take to complete this project? Great work I love it and the sound is awesome.

  • Basically one of the most awesome instruments I have ever seen.

  • this is sick ! i just love it ! D:

  • This is one of the best things ive seen in thy world

  • U should join Daft Punk :)

  • You built this? Impressive.

  • I think you just can give me that damn thing...

  • That's an incredible instrument...admit that you bought it from space aliens from Alpha Centauri! :-)

  • great job guy ..an 8 bit keytar is exactly what the world needs

  • That said, your keytar itself is quite awesome. ;D

  • Dude, you have to tell me what kind of skillset you need to accomplish this sort of awesomeness. What kinds of math do you know? What sort of experience do you have with music and the commodore 64? Do you have a degree in computer engineering or something? I gotta know so I can go out and do something like this myself.

  • @darkfoxfurre Well, I nearly failed Algebra II in high school so that should tell you something about my mathematical ability. I have a deep background in music technology at this point -currently pursuing my phd in it.

Most of what I know about electronics however is self taught / learned by working with people smarter than me. Seek out a guru. And go to ucapps.de for schematics to build a SID synth. 85% of the guts I built straight from Thorsten's amazing design. and 100% of the code.

  • @crudface Why have you stolen my living room rug?

And why have you nailed it to your wall?

  • @crudface What do you mean by music technology? Where did/do you learn about that? I've got a degree in "Recording and Music Technology" and we never learned how to do anything like this :P I'd love to learn though.

  • @Krubbz I currently have three degrees:

    1) B.Mus from the Oberlin Conservatory in Technology in Music and Related Arts (TIMARA)

    2) M.F.A. from CalArts in Experimental Sound Practices (ESP)

    3) M.A. from Brown University in Multimedia and Electronic Music Experiments (MEME)

I'm working on my Ph.D. now, also at Brown's MEME department. But like I said, you don't need school to make awesome stuff!! Just a functioning brain and time / dedication.

  • what revisions of the 6581 do you have in that thing?

    I got a c64 equipped with MSSIAH cart and SID2SID holding a r2 and an r4AR

  • @KaslarProductions Both chips are rev 2 -I tried to match them as closely as I could given the selection of chips I had to work with. Left channel is date code 4883, right channel is 2983. I also have a r4AR from the first week of '87 in my (non-modified) c64. It sounds kind of strange on games because the filter characteristics are so different, but it's also very musical.

I don't get the big deal about the 8580. 6581 is way more legit from where I'm sitting. Enjoy MSSIAH, it's awesome.

  • @crudface Oh I DEFINATELY want a 8580 badly and understand the appeal to it 100%... The reason being that it is what the specs of the SID SHOULD have been if it wasn't rushed out super early incomplete.... I ache for a filter with cream in it... But the flaws are VERY characteristic and I love the broken chip even more than the 8580. the brokenness has a joyful song to sing to us. and 6 channel bass lines stereo separated sound dirtier than anything I've heard. keep doin what you do. =)

  • @KaslarProductions I understand where you're coming from. I guess when I want a filter with cream I use one of my analog synths. The 6581 filter is what I remember from my youth and what I associate with SID -the 8580 sounds too "modern" somehow. I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone else, and certainly a lot of people seem to prefer the 8580. Which is great. It's just not for me.

It would be nice to have properly working mixed waveforms though!

  • dude, what the HELL do you have in your hands???!?!?!?

    Did you invent the computer????

  • It definitely looks impressive!

    Cheers,

    //Jeroen Tel

  • Have you built this pretty?? Well done!! You're a genius!!

  • If Doc from Back to the Future played in a band, this would be his instrument! LOL

    That thing is very cool.

  • Thats what I call cool!

  • That thing transformed from a Decepticon just a blip prior to 0:00

  • You sir, are a GENIUS!!!! Awesome piece of engineering!!!

  • You play very well mister, you should really do something with this, children up too 16 would enjoy this very badly, and perhaps have a movie behind you like a cinnema, that would be great. i like your playing, KEEP 'T UP:D

  • this is awesome! I want one so bad!

  • :-) ...

  • Cover the Delta tracks and I will pass my final judgement afterwards. This sounds a bit too clean imo. Of course you might've not wanted to perfectly emulate C64 sound... but what would you need the SID chips for, then, right? ;) Needs the typical C64 kinda 'bubbly' reverb I think.

  • @Samuraionthewall I believe you are referring to broken chords or otherwise called arpeggios.... The "bubbly" and fast fluttering sounds.

    Reverb is something totally different...

  • @KaslarProductions Nono, I was talking about sound architecture, not the notes themselves. When I'm talking about this kind of 'reverb' (not sure what to call it, hence the marks) I mean that there's a bit of a shadow following every note played, for the C64 style of audio output. It produces the characteristic 'unclean' retro sound. watch?v=6tLY_E1-8RM <- here for instance, the sound is muffled and echoed, but still clean. watch?v=LlwgAzgK7ws is not muffled, but 'shadowed' and 'unclean'. :P

  • @Samuraionthewall Do you mean the vca bleed? on the 6581 it never really shuts fully, so you can always hear the oscillators lingering in the background noise. I think this effect was considerably reduced on the 8580, but I'm not sure since my experience with that revision is limited.

I like the bleed. It really is kind of like reverb, and it can help fill out a mix. And you can always gate it away if you don't like it.

  • thats sickkk dude

  • Are those Radioshack project boxes for the neck?

  • @pencildives Yes! They're spray painted glossy black to give them a more metallic finish, and then screwed onto a foundational wooden frame to form the neck.

  • that not only looks awsome, but is hugely smart.

  • Ever see the "Red Green" show?

  • @tombrehmer lol, wow. Talk about an obscure reference. I never thought about it, but now that you mention it Giana is pretty similar to Harold's "thing." Googling for pictures of it now, it even looks like they might have used a commodore of some variety. The world is weird.

  • i like:

    the visualization and LEDs.

    i dont like:

    the sound.

    improvement suggestions:

you should have placed the knobs on the down side. ur body gestures would look that way much cooler like a guitarplayer.

how much money do u want for one piece?

  • Are you extreme enough to handle the awesomeness?

  • there is real cool He-Man film with Dolph Lundgreen. There were also a soundmachine like this one!

    Thumbs up!

  • This may be the nerdiest musical instrument ever.

  • @D313370r and its awesome !

  • @D313370r OR, the most EPIC!

  • @D313370r He should rename the video that.

  • @D313370r by far! It's like an alien space station O_o

  • Jesus, this is like when Hal-9000 from 2001 got disconnected, got sold for scrap parts and then turned into this far more improved keytar.

  • Great

  • This is quite literally the greatest thing I have ever seen on the internet.

  • WOW!!!!

  • 8D crank hole!!!

  • the rug really ties the room together.... awsome build man!

  • too cool for school man, hats off.

  • holy fetch, that thing is sic

  • this shit is intense, man

  • Amazing!!! congratulations... but... :( you killed two C64... R.I.P most great computer i ever seen.

I am a computer collector, your machine is great.

  • What is this magical device and where can I buy one?!

  • wow thats awesome! please upload more demos :)

  • Hah, hero!

  • That is the coolest device I've ever seen on the planet. I've never been more jealous of anybody ever.

  • Well this is a music video, so where are all the hot chicks? ... Oh that's right you have them locked up in your basement, where you have them listen to you play the Keytar with that horrible creepy look on your face.

  • Amazing device,I'm sure everyone else is just as curious as to what your background is?

Are you electronics wiz, programming wiz or both-Would love to know the history of how you learnt how to make amazing things like that device.

  • @victormusictechnique its ok just read your profile and see how you got into this stuff.

Just read your essay 'The machine dosn't care'.fascinating stuff,I connected with the bit about childhood memories being triggered by old 8 bit systems.Interestingly it sort of answered something for me because sometimes in adult life when things get hard i tend to play my old 8 bit systems and I sort of feel safe again-maybe because in childhood we are safe and under the protection of parents etc.

  • 'This is Derek smalls...he wrote this.Hope you like our new direction'.

This guy is either insane or genius..hmmm I think the latter.

Amazing what ppl can design must be a very clever fellow.

  • @victormusictechnique Derek smalls from the Film Spinal tap.:-)

  • That's the most amazing piece of circuit bend I've ever seen.

  • I approve of this video!

  • Well done crudface! And you're a great player too. Hope to see more videos soon.

  • you are amazing. nuff said. teach me the ways.

  • i want one now :D

  • that...was simply awesome

  • this is what a college degree in C++ and lots of pot does to a person... incredible

  • Your sweater is so cool man!

  • I've always hated keytars with a passion, but this is one keytar I would love to own and would happily and proudly play on stage :)

    Fucking awesome!!

  • what was this ? make some c64 theme music with that :) i didnt hear any similarity for giana sisters on this one =(

  • Did u Built that for ur Self ? FKIN Awesome !

  • nice rug.

  • You make me feel inferior as a human being, because I lack the knowledge and capacity to do the wonderful things you did here.

  • dude sounds cool

  • this is so cool!!

  • hopefully the C64 was dead before you began cutting it up.

  • Why have you nailed a rug to your wall?

  • @mechanicalnucleus mostly for acoustic reasons. It acts as an absorber.

  • @crudface good Konter!!!!!

  • @crudface I like the idea of the rug on the wall.

  • meh, whocares? it adds to the room methinks =)

  • @mechanicalnucleus

Maybe he is from Russia or Persia, or Aserbajan or Osbekistan...This peapel have a rug at the Wall ;)

  • That is so nerdy. And for that, I love you. I just ordered a Lucina. I hope to join in the nerdery soon.

  • That's not a keytar.. that's a bazooka!!

AMAZING DUDE! looks amazing! and sounds great

  • Oh my god. That is SO Prog Rock.

  • Fantastic instrument, bravo!

    Do you sell your creations?

  • There have been at least three Back to Future references in the comments thread so far, which is completely awesome. Thanks for making my day.
