  • Doing this for my 8th grade solo :D

  • this is the solo i'm playing for nyssma! :)

  • I want to applaud at the end.

  • He must have been horny when he composed this :3

  • Doing this for college audition in 3 weeks. I LOVE this piece :)

I like to play along with recordings and this is a great one to practice with.

  • accompanimenty Mozart concertas horn 1.2.3.4.+rondo ----/site/ google/ zaharoffmusic/ MP3

  • Am the only one noticing that at min 0:19 there is a little motive (but exact the same one) of Piano Concerto 21 first movement! (:

  • Like Einstein said that Mozart wrote the music on the universe

  • Nothing better than good old Mozart!

  • Who's the solo artist in this recording?

  • Ahhhh! I just got the sheet music for the horn part today and I'm so excited to get stuck into it! Definitely helps hearing it up to speed and played so beautifully, something to aim for :)

  • Il est belle (:

  • The iTunes link is wrong - Concerto No. 1 in D ? :L

  • Who is performing?

I like the cadenza interpretation; it is a fresh idea for me, I got so used to hearing Dennis Brain's and Barry Tuckwell's that I forgot a cadenza is personal!

  • I love this!

  • WONDERFULL !

  • Dennis Brain was the best French Horn virtuoso ever--I tried to play just like him!!

In Mozarts day French Horns didn't have valves--they had to switch tuning slides for different keys!

  • Dennis Brain was the best French Horn virtuoso ever--I tried to play just like him!!

  • I meant to say did not have the cradenza written.

  • I played the horn concerti in high school for state solo contests and at least one did have the cradenza written out---it was left up to the performer to show his talent.

  • At what point in history did it become cooler to talk really fast over computer created sounds, rather then play a beautiful piece of music like this, with an even more beautiful instrument? I don't understand it...

  • Who plays in this recording?

  • Ugh, I can't get the valves to move fast enough on my horn to play this.

  • This guy is a cheater. Used valves for his trills.....

  • @FrenchHornKid95 I know this may not apply, but I'm currently learning this solo and I prefer to use the rotors for my trills so I can get better at my lip trills. Do you use lip trills/how long did it take you to learn them?

  • Did anyone else notice that the cadenza has a small part from Concert Rondo no.4?

  • @iDavidC1097 Now that I hear it, yeah, you're right...

  • Mozart's flashy horn pieces are bliss. They show off how beautiful the horn is when you can play it :3.

  • @AzumangaRox thankyou, im learning to play this at the moment =)

  • I am attracted to classic music, dont get me wrong, i mean it would be great to have a nice one during the music just like with any real music like rock n roll!

  • Greetings!!! from Medellin-Colombia, could you please tell me that if possible soloist and orchestra that plays this version?

  • Man, I wish i could play my french horn like this. I've only been playing for like 2 years, though I have been to honor band twice. I'm in the sixth grade.

  • I'm playing this for an audition in a couple weeks. Wish me luck!

  • @TheMykel111 good luck ;)) (angel)

  • thank you mozart

  • Cadenza should be tonic arpeggione, with the thrill, four bars total and for echasment may have one aria from Il Seraglio the popular opera at the time of concerto four mesures at the most!

  • Doing this for a solo~ It's so awesome :D

  • Who is playing?

  • And I thought my Cadenza was long! I had to cut mine out and use the one that was writen

  • he died when he was only 35?!

  • @BrazilRacer

    Yes, unfortunately!!

  • Is it just me or does this sound more like a tenor horn than a french horn?

  • @avdeuph: Yes, of course, anyone is entitled to call even Mozart ridiculous. However, even if the cadenza was by someone else, the rest is Mozart's and ultimately this remains as Mozart's horn concerto. Therefore, all praise must be accorded him (save, perhaps, for the cadenza).

  • Is it just me or does this music sound alot like one of the piano concertos? Iike one of the later ones. I ask because it sounds so familiar to me and I'm really only familiar with all the later Piano Concertos. Unless I've heard this befor on a Mozart miscellainious collection. I used to have one of those. That must be it, I know every note, (practically).

  • He could have thrown in a little CowBell at a few spots, and as long as he said when and where, it would have worked :)

  • Playing this for my horn solo in March!

  • @FrenchHornChick01

I play French Horn too. Schuman has some good horn music also. Good luck.

  • Playing this for my horn solo in March!

  • this is gross! the horn player is obviously good, but the interpretation of the solo is really bad. it's not supposed to be short at all. and WHERE IS THE 1ST LIP THRILL?!?! in my opinion, horns shouldnt do vibrato. the one used by this horn is sooo not horn like. yall need to listen to barry tuckwell play this. long cadenza but it was a nice.

  • Love the clarients. =D

  • MOZART! <3

  • Who is playing it? My assignment is to find my favorite performer of this piece, It would be really helpful if you posted the performer!

  • i love it!!!

    it is amazing)))

  • I played this in my old school, and i was playing the horn. It was absolutely amazing! I kindda fell in love with the tune itself...

  • thank you so much!

  • good damm......Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's music is amazing

  • this person is awesome; i hope i can play like this someday!! i'm working on it, played for almost three years, can play this but not as well as this and there are trills right before the triplets if ur trying to find one

  • this person is awesome; i hope i can play like this someday!! i'm working on it, played for almost three years, can play this but not as well as this

  • umm.... the trills.... where are the trills?

  • Love this one

  • how does he do that vibrato???

  • @44jesusfreak4 there are two types - breath vibrato, not as nice as:

lip vibrato, using the lips to create a wobble. this is very hard to make sound nice on a horn, trust me, and it is frowned on by many players. i would get killed.

  • @pilchard96 how so?

  • @44jesusfreak4 some players and teachers agree with vibrato on a horn, many others (including mine) do not like it. my teacher would kill me if i even attempted it.

  • @pilchard96 yeah i agree kinda too, i just wanna know how to do it and be able to just to say i can do it, but ive heard so many horn players play songs with vibrato that shouldnt be played with vibrato, but there are times in some concertos that are acceptable

  • I'm playing this at state tomorrow. It's gonna be fun.

  • one of my favourites horn concertos of Mozart

  • thank you so much for posting.. im playing this as a solo with smart music for solo and ensemble and due to inclement weather i can't retrieve my horn for, like, 5 days, so its nice to be able to find this. (:

  • Your welcome. I will be adding a lot more classical music videos soon, I forgot my password and finally got it.

  • @Mastersofclassical do you know which hornist ist playing?

  • @nisse3991 it's Bernd Heiser, and the Vienna Mozart Ensemble under the direction of Herbert Kraus. my school has the same recording.

  • @bignut4567 Thanks! : )

  • pretty long cadenza there - it would have also been nice to have the second and third movements as well as the first one. Other than that, it was pretty good

  • @Nat682 the other movements are in the related videos section to the right of your screen

  • thx for posting it...its fantastic!

  • that cadenza was ridiculously long.

  • @AngedeleCor Nothing Mozart composes is ridiculous. It was likely meant to show off the hornist's skills.

  • @jwywong : In Mozart's time the cadenza was always improvised by the performer.

  • @jwywong Mozart didn't write the cadenza. It's supposed to be ad libbed.

  • @jwywong A cadenza is generally not written by the original composer. Originally, cadenzas were improvisatory interludes designed as impromptu moments for the soloist to showcase his or her unique set of skills. In many modern cases, a popular solo artist will write perform a cadenza which then becomes so popular that it basically embodies the "standard" cadenza for the concerto. In other words, this is not Mozart's concerto, and is liable to being called ridiculous if we so please.

  • @jwywong isn't the cadenza in this concerto improvised?

  • Comment removed

  • @jwywong Each hornist writes their own cadenza. Even if the cadenza was truly ridiculous, Mozart would have nothing to do with it! For instance, my cadenza was Zelda-inspired...

  • @jwywong it is ridiculously long, not ridiculous

  • @jwywong I don't think Mozart wrote the cadenza, it was not customary in the classical period, and I know for a fact he didn't write cadenzas for the flute and oboe concertos.

  • @jwywong I did not mean it in a negative manner; in truth, I am impressed that so much was done with it. I am a horn player in college (it is my major) and love Mozart very much.

  • @jwywong Yeah that point would make sense were it not that Mozart did not write that cadenza.

  • @jwywong i don't believe the cadenza was written by him

  • @jwywong Mozart didn't compose the cadenza, the horn player did. That is pretty standard. I always write my own cadenzas too.

  • @jwywong actually, the cadenza would have been written by the soloist, not Mozart.

  • @jwywong The cadenza is ad libitum, I don't think Mozart composed this particular cadenza.

  • @jwywong - Disregarding the fact that, as many have pointed out, Mozart was not the composer of this cadenza, you're talking about the man who wrote a canon called Leck mich im Arsch, as well as a number of other songs in the same vein.

  • @jwywong Everything Mozart composes is ridiculously good.

  • @jwywong Mozart didn't compose the cadenza.

  • @jaespino60

I don't think he was criticising the piece...ridiculously long is just an expression. It could well be a positive.

  • @TheAm6789 I agree. I understand showing your talent but sometimes enough is enough. My instructor says short and sweet is the way to go or else audience/judges will get bored and tired of listening. My cadenza isn't even a whole page long, and a lot of people at my level use it.

  • @jaespino60 I did not mean it was ridiculous in a negative manner. I LOVE Mozart; his music is wonderful and beautiful. I am a horn major in college and have the good fortune to play such music as this. I do not appreciate your rude comment. People like you are the reason music such as this and classical musicians such as myself are frowned upon. You look down your noses at others; if this were someone who knew very little about the piece, you would very well drive them off and away from music.

  • @AngedeleCor Hi Angedelecor. I am really sorry about my commnet. I shuod have know what you meant. There is no excuse at all. And you are right about the effect my comment could have on some people. I love Mozart too. The commnet is down now.

  • @jaespino60 ahem...a little conversation in the comments..that's just embarrassing and awkward... -_-'
