even though Weiner's opponent drags him around and refuses to get at the heart of the matter I have to be in awe of the pretty reasonable, patient debate going on here. maybe because its not Fox News no one got cut off or resorted to shouting.
@dadadevo haa yes. Those stupid blind fools. They're destroying their country but they're talking some terrorist out there. They are it. But what effect will that have. A nation of ignorants listening to the blind telling them how it is done. And since they have weapons a danger to the world. None of these are psychologically sound. They spew the trash, darkness that is in their mind and force it upon us they believe it. But some might do it for profit.
I am a firm believer that the free market is the most efficient way of delivering goods and services to the mass majority of people. If one wants to sacrifice efficiency for the sake of delivering mass free care for all then that is his choice, but expect waste in one form or another. There is a reason why doctors move to America to get money. There is also a reason why patients from other countries go to America to get surgeries. Inefficiency.
Why do Republicans 'HATE ' European health plans like that of France? Simply because the French have THE PUBLIC OPTION, which doesn't stop anyone from purchasing and/or using private health plans. The problem "the for profit" insurance companies have, is that people who pay for their health plan privately, quickly discover that they get no better medical, hospital or pharmaceutical treatment. When the French president " a Republican" tired to dismantle it, he was nearly "lynched" & backed off.
@briquetaverne That's right! Any American who has been brainwashed into hating France has been brainwashed into hating freedom itself. Who advocates hating France? Most likely the same people who have an interest in people shooting themselves in the foot so that they can make a profit. American for Prosperity is headed by oil tycoon that was no town hall situation. LOL when the French gov't tried to dismantle it I heard the French were rioting. Maybe that's what needs to happen here.
You truly understand and care for your fellow Americans. Healthcare should not be a privilege, its a right. You are exactly what I like to see in a congressman.

"Speechless" and "Dumbfounded"? That usually happens when you don't have an answer, not because you don't "believe" or "understand" the question. Weiner is right, and Scarborogh simply did not want to concede that he's wrong. So in typical fashion he tries laying down a smoke screen of capitalistic, free market rhetoric. Why is this so-called journalist pathetically defending a failed ideology, instead of simply reporting the news?

Americans, for the most part have all the information in the world available to them. If they choose to let a television screen dish out their information for them, that is their own fault. The internet is way cheaper then cable TV and offers far more.
That's a liberal democrat view. It's so liberal that it basically was never even on the table because it wouldn't get enough votes in The Senate. And I agree with it 100%.
@edwin768 That's the point Weiner is making. He would LIKE to have everyone receive medicare, i.e. GOVERNMENT organised healthcare, but the Republicans would never have it, and because of that, moderate Democrats like Obama can't have it either.
It's a sad thing really, I don't think this is what your so-called founding fathers meant when they thought about free market.
@edwin768 That makes you on the side of the mass majority of Americans that want free shit but don't know how to pay for it. Free healthcare is nice, but it's not free. Expect higher taxes, the systematic elimination of all private care, the rise of bureaucracies in the healthcare industry (more input than output), and waste, tons of waste. Most importantly, America will have to meet even more financial obligations. Nations in Europe recently found that they can't meet their own obligations.
@bigtimepeace Well, I wish it were that simple. If you leftists want socialized medicine, that's fine. But do it AMONGST YOURSELVES and leave the rest of us out of it. Then we're cool.
You call yourself "bigtimepeace" but there is nothing "peaceful" about using the power of government to force people into doing something they don't want to do. For the first time in US history, the government is forcing people to PURCHASE A PRODUCT WHETHER THEY WANT IT OR NOT. That is simply not American.
@utube9000 Don't deign to lecture me about what is or is not American--there is no essential "Americanness," and indeed diversity of thought and belief is one of the things that has characterized this country. The Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether the mandate is constitutional or not--if they agree it is then you'll have to deal with it. Incidentally, don't you think not buying insurance just cause you don't want to is irresponsible? If you get hurt or sick the rest of us have to pay.
@bigtimepeace Central to America is the Constitution that the nation was founded upon. No Constitution, no America in my opinion. The Supreme Court should NEVER determine the law of the land, only the law of the case. The states should be able to block Obamacare and I hope they do.
To answer your question: No, you should not have to pay my medical bills if I don't have insurance, I agree with you there.
@utube9000 One of the foundational legal cases in American history is Marbury v. Madison, the decision in which famously states that "It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is." Everyone still agrees with that. The constitutionality of the reform law has been challenged--the court will decide whether the law is constitutional or not. It's standard stuff. If states could block Obamacare they could block any law, and the union would dissolve.
@utube9000 As to the medical bills issue, if you don't have insurance and you get very sick or are seriously injured, you will obviously go the emergency room. If you cannot pay the bills because they are too high--which is extremely common--then the rest of us basically pay for it in the form of increased premiums and fees. Why should I have to pay for your refusal to insure yourself? Even if you are healthy you could be in an accident, and you would probably leave others footing the bill.
im just glad they havnt changed the healthcare system the other day a peasant touched my arm on the street and i was like thank god for health insurance i mean how do you expct health insurance ceos and execs to live off and support thier families on only a a few million a year you selfish liberals think about other ppl somtimes geez
They most certainly do not. If you call lower standards of living, less material wealth, less innovation, less freedom, 50% tax rates, bankrupt government entitlement programs "just fine" you're insane.
We're well on our way to lower standards of living, and we didn't even have to provide health care for everyone like decent people. Amazing! Get off your high horse.
What right does any corportation have to stand between doctors and patients and demand a cut before they can provide medical treatment? None! Fuck em all, and fuck Joe Scarborough.
p.s what a little bitch scarborough is, unable to answer the question, unwilling to concede even the slighest point, because he knows he has no answer. and then he has the nerve to accuse weiner of not letting him get a word in, fucking hypocrite pussy.
so scarborough, do you really think medicare represents a government takeover of healthcare?
That is BS. I don't know any 65+ person on medicare who likes it. This is why medicare supplements are such big business. Try paying 1065 copay per hospital visit. this is how medicare works. The problem for medicare is not overhead, but that the government can dip into the pool of funds for other projects nothing to do with health care. An insurance company would be fined heavily if it sent its money pool in this way.
You should do some research before you make an ass of yourself. Ask my parents how great government run health care is. They pay 2304 a year for part B, plus the tens of thousands they paid into while working, yet that can not get a physical, mammogram, or other preventative care. And my dad was stung by a bee (he is allergic) and spent a week in the hospital, and is still paying off the 1,000 bill. And he has no choice but to take medicare, no other insurance will take you if you are. (Cont)
This has everything to do with medicare. It is a single payer system that is decreasing what it pays every year, and increasing the premiums every year. I work part time in Dunkin Donuts in Mass where it is mandatory to get private insurance, and for $14 a week, I have a far superior health plan than medicare.
Then you truly are stupid if you believe a $14/week plan is better than medicare. I got a banana boat to see you. I just hope you don't get sick and actually have to use your insurance.
Part B is less than a 100/month. Both my parents have it. And (btw) it is optional. $1k for being in the hospital for a week? My wife and I both had insurance with her on my plan and I on hers. We had a $5K bill for 3 days of her being in the hospital for complications with her last pregancy. Now that is with double coverage. WTF, dude. Maybe if you didn't work at Dunkin Donuts you would have a clue. You are the one that needs to do research.
$100 a month? I want that medicare. It is 94.40 per person. And 5,000 for a pregnancy? My father had a bee sting, for one night, not even over night, and got an epinephrine given to him. I spent a night with staff infection, with a local surgery, And it cost me $250. In Mass, it is great now that private insurance is mandated. With insurance pools increasing, premiums decrease. My sister who lives in NY has horrible coverage for $600 a mo, and guess what, she works in a hospital.
By the way, by optional for part be, that means that it is either part b or nothing. If you get private insurance, you are forced to be penalized for not taking it. Essentially, the insurance is only allowed to pay what medicare would not have paid. Look it up. The only way, is if you do not qualify for medicare. (did not work more than the quarters needed to qualify)
Dude, you just said your father had to spent a week in the hospital and now you are saying it was one night. Can you get your own lies straight? BTW, Medicare part B pays for mammograms (free of charge) you dope.
Dumb ass. the medicare did not pay for the night. After the deductible was met, then it paid for the rest of the week. You obviously have no understanding of medicare.
You are probably confused by medicare advantage plans. Yup, they are private health care. It is cheaper for the government to pay a private insurer to provide health coverage.
I don't even know why I argue. It is not some big secrete. Get a medicare and you book, and you see how horrible medicare really is. If you want to ignore it and pretend it is the best thing ever, have fun. If it was a private insurer, they would have been jailed already for fraud.
What I don't understand is why Joe is so amazed at Weiner's position - people have been calling for single payer/Medicare for All for years. This couldn't have been the first time he'd heard of it.
Weiner is great. In all fairness, though, Scarborough is much better than O'Reilly. He is able in this format at least, to let Weiner explain and argue whereas O'Relilly often talks over his guests, cuts them off, etc.
Joe just can't wrap his head around the idea of health care as an essential service; and that the health of Americans should have priority over the profits of insurance companies.
My next question for people here is what else do you think you can't do for yourselves and need the government to run for you? I doubt anyone will touch this but Congres passed Medicare part D a few years ago, is the cost of Part D what the American public was told it would be today or is it 300%+ what we were told it would cost? Keep thinking your government is going to be the answer. I already pay about40-50% of my check in taxes....how much more does it need to be?
"My next question for people here is what else do you think you can't do for yourselves and need the government to run for you?"
Well, I can't fight a war alone, I can't afford to build an interstate, I can't deliver my own mail (day job and all), I can't arrest criminals, I can't watch NOAA's weather satellites (which would be handy as I live in Louisiana), I don't know enough chemistry and biology to make sure the food I'm eating is safe, nor can I stop people from using lead paint. Need more?
max baccus is bought and paid for by the big insurance companies. the reason he said they don't have the votes is because no one wants to support his watered down, doomed-to-fail, version of a bill that started with it's legs cut off in the first place. without a public option that costs medicaid +5%, its the same cost as the private insurance and then we have a gov mandate that forces us to pay high prices. every version of this bill is shit right now, hopefully we can fix this thing.
'what do the insurance companies bring to the table? what do they contribute?'
...
...
*crickets*
Then Joe has the nerve to claim he wasn't silent because he simply didn't have an answer. That was amazing. A simple, simple question...absolutely smacked the crap out of Joe Scarborough. Just couldn't think of an answer.
You are not ASTOUNDED JOE! I repeat, You are not ASTOUNDED! You have NO ANSWER because health insurance companies have no value in this country. They are here to reap PROFIT!!! NOTHING ELSE! JUST PROFIT! THIS is why health insurance companies need to be HISTORY in this country!
He's not "making it seem like" private health care needs to be done away with. He's proving a point as to WHY it needs to be done away with. Don't act so fucking flabbergasted Scarborough. It's like like he said a dirty word and that you have to go tattle on him.
"HE SAID TAKEOVER! HE SAID TAKEOVER! MOMMMMMMYYYYYY!"
Joe Scarborough is a buzzword whore. Let the congressman ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION.
Well Joe? What benefits do the insurance companies bring the American people?? Just because they provide jobs and engage in capitalism is not enough. They are responsible for making health care too expensive for the average American and they deny health care to those who pay for it. It is a moral issue and Weiner has it right. I'm so glad he is out there fighting for us, even those of us in another state!
scrubjay93 The Mafia employed people too, so did Madoff. Al Capone was the ultimate "free marketer" , he didn't pay his taxes, which is the only thing they nailed him with. I hope to God that these insurance CEOs have cheated on their taxes.
Hey you pay into the insurance plan with the expectation that they will be there when you need it. But they deny your claims? What is the fucking value? That guy Scarborogh is sooooo stupid! Pay attention! It's highway robbery!
Great job Weiner... He HAS backbone! Proud of him. He should coach the other rep. so they can stand up to people who are just ignorant about the healthcare.
I always thought it was ironic and indicative of the average American's stupidity that many people are protesting in favor of health insurance companies which do the very things they accuse/fear from the public option or single payer. Americans are defending their rapist when defending the status quo
Weiner says "health care is not a commodity".
Huh? How is health care NOT a commodity? That makes no sense whatsoever! The word "commodity" is defined as "a good for which there is a demand."
OF COURSE health care is a commodity! Weiner is completely 100% wrong!

If states could block Obamacare they could block any law, and the union would dissolve.
bigtimepeace 9 months ago
@utube9000 As to the medical bills issue, if you don't have insurance and you get very sick or are seriously injured, you will obviously go the emergency room. If you cannot pay the bills because they are too high--which is extremely common--then the rest of us basically pay for it in the form of increased premiums and fees. Why should I have to pay for your refusal to insure yourself? Even if you are healthy you could be in an accident, and you would probably leave others footing the bill.

MEDICARE FOR ALL!
that should have been the slogan, and you americans better wake the hell up and get a decent healthcare system now rather than never.
spacecowboy95 2 years ago 6
Morning Joe is a stupid moron. He never answered the question. What an idiot.
atlsam1 2 years ago 3
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
Dude, wtf are you talking about? This has nothing to do with how Medicare works. Go do some research.
atlsam1 2 years ago
You should do some research before you make an ass of yourself. Ask my parents how great government run health care is. They pay 2304 a year for part B, plus the tens of thousands they paid into while working, yet that can not get a physical, mammogram, or other preventative care. And my dad was stung by a bee (he is allergic) and spent a week in the hospital, and is still paying off the 1,000 bill. And he has no choice but to take medicare, no other insurance will take you if you are. (Cont)
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
This has everything to do with medicare. It is a single payer system that is decreasing what it pays every year, and increasing the premiums every year. I work part time in Dunkin Donuts in Mass where it is mandatory to get private insurance, and for $14 a week, I have a far superior health plan than medicare.
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
Then you truly are stupid if you believe a $14/week plan is better than medicare. I got a banana boat to see you. I just hope you don't get sick and actually have to use your insurance.
atlsam1 2 years ago
Part B is less than a 100/month. Both my parents have it. And (btw) it is optional. $1k for being in the hospital for a week? My wife and I both had insurance with her on my plan and I on hers. We had a $5K bill for 3 days of her being in the hospital for complications with her last pregancy. Now that is with double coverage. WTF, dude. Maybe if you didn't work at Dunkin Donuts you would have a clue. You are the one that needs to do research.
atlsam1 2 years ago
$100 a month? I want that medicare. It is 94.40 per person. And 5,000 for a pregnancy? My father had a bee sting, for one night, not even over night, and got an epinephrine given to him. I spent a night with staff infection, with a local surgery, And it cost me $250. In Mass, it is great now that private insurance is mandated. With insurance pools increasing, premiums decrease. My sister who lives in NY has horrible coverage for $600 a mo, and guess what, she works in a hospital.
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
By the way, by optional for part be, that means that it is either part b or nothing. If you get private insurance, you are forced to be penalized for not taking it. Essentially, the insurance is only allowed to pay what medicare would not have paid. Look it up. The only way, is if you do not qualify for medicare. (did not work more than the quarters needed to qualify)
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
Dude, you just said your father had to spent a week in the hospital and now you are saying it was one night. Can you get your own lies straight? BTW, Medicare part B pays for mammograms (free of charge) you dope.
atlsam1 2 years ago
Dumb ass. the medicare did not pay for the night. After the deductible was met, then it paid for the rest of the week. You obviously have no understanding of medicare.
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
You are probably confused by medicare advantage plans. Yup, they are private health care. It is cheaper for the government to pay a private insurer to provide health coverage.
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
You are in serious need of mental health coverage. All of that Dunkin Donut sugar has started to melt your brain.
atlsam1 2 years ago
I can not believe anyone is actually defending medicare. It is great coverage on paper, however medicare will only pay a certain price for things.
TemplumVerum 2 years ago
I don't even know why I argue. It is not some big secrete. Get a medicare and you book, and you see how horrible medicare really is. If you want to ignore it and pretend it is the best thing ever, have fun. If it was a private insurer, they would have been jailed already for fraud.

Sondan1988 2 years ago
"My next question for people here is what else do you think you can't do for yourselves and need the government to run for you?"
Well, I can't fight a war alone, I can't afford to build an interstate, I can't deliver my own mail (day job and all), I can't arrest criminals, I can't watch NOAA's weather satellites (which would be handy as I live in Louisiana), I don't know enough chemistry and biology to make sure the food I'm eating is safe, nor can I stop people from using lead paint. Need more?

mrakimbo 2 years ago 3
max baccus is bought and paid for by the big insurance companies. the reason he said they don't have the votes is because no one wants to support his watered down, doomed-to-fail, version of a bill that started with it's legs cut off in the first place. without a public option that costs medicaid +5%, its the same cost as the private insurance and then we have a gov mandate that forces us to pay high prices. every version of this bill is shit right now, hopefully we can fix this thing.
thecellarlife 2 years ago 3
Oh man you can positively feel that pause there.
'what do the insurance companies bring to the table? what do they contribute?'

Well Joe? What benefits do the insurance companies bring the American people?? Just because they provide jobs and engage in capitalism is not enough. They are responsible for making health care too expensive for the average American and they deny health care to those who pay for it. It is a moral issue and Weiner has it right.
