I think the majority here would react the same as Andy. But when your as someones "home plan", miranda priestley, and you laugh at their work, you sure will get your as kicked. It's quit disrespectful since they're working their asses off. And its so true when she says in the end " You think you made a choice that's excempts you from the fashion industrie, WHEN IN FACT, you're wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room...from a pile of stuff" *SNAP* That is so true!
I love this scene..my fave of the whole movie but to be fair, I would react the same way Andy did. Boy, if they could see the "stuff" I wear, they would think twice about making that speech about ultimately being responsible for the clothes I wear.
I wear what I feel is comfortable. I don't think fashion should be too high on everyone's list when there's so many other things we should be worried about
When someone says they don't care about the clothing they wear or fashion, they are lying. If they truly did not care, then you can go to their closet, replace all of their clothes with scuba suits with an embroidered tub girl on them, flip flops and frilly pink hats. If they truly did not care, they would wear that and not be bothered by it.
this stuff?? what you dont know is that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002 Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry
I love this scene because it really tells how fashion does matter and just because you think you know about fashion, doesn't mean you do. Meryl is so boss in this scene.
@ABookworm2010 IMO the "morale of the story" can also be applied to many other contexts, where ignorant people (sorry) have dismissive attitudes towards things they actually know nothing about.
@ABookworm2010 I appreciate your passion for fashion but I hope you know that both her references with regard to Oscar De La Renta & Yves Saint Laurent couldn't be further away from the truth.
Thank You!! I been looking everywhere for this video because I'm doing her monologue for a audition and I didnt know how to pronounce the designers name lol <3
Lord, poor Anne Hathaway is so googly-eyed.

I agree with the assistant that was laughing. That is a ridiculous outfit. I wouldn't wear much of what is seen as fashion. I would of laugh too.

@conspiracy94 Even comfort is a part of fashion though. That's what Miranda was trying to say even though she didn't have to say it so rudely.
