  • damn that went fast lol

  • Any tips for mowing a steep slope?

Are there any issues with choosing the right blade length, other than the longer blade cuts more but requires more effort per stroke?

And finally, any tips for dealing with the cut grass?

  • i love scythes

  • Boy that is a nice video. Thanks for showing us. I'm interested in how winded one gets. 1-10 how would you describe it? 1 being a slow walk and 10 being a sprint.

  • @pangavamanos What a great question. I would say that mowing at this pace is like the aerobic exercise of a brisk walk. I'm using the inertia of shifting my weight with my torso and legs, to propel the blade, not my arms. My arms don't actually get any more tired than the rest of me. The first thing to get tired is my internal engine. I'm in my 50's, and I can only mow like this for a couple of hours, max.. When I was a X-C ski racer, back in my 20's, I bet I could have kept it up all day.

  • That's a nicer cut than the tractor. How many acres a day can you do?

  • @DoctorsWife56 According to the Scythe Book, one man could mow an acre per day. I can only mow for about two hours at a time. It takes me about 8-10hrs. in total, I think to mow an entire acre. Back in my 20's when I was young and in great athletic shape, I think that I could have mowed 1 acre in a day. Now, to mow a whole acre, I have to spread it out over several days.
