I'm Brazilian so it is obvious that it made me really sad to watch Italy win against Brazil in 1982. Yet I have to admit that the Italians had the best team that year. It was a great team and I always respect that. I think that Brazil vs Italy was the real cup final : the two strongest teams facing each other. One of the criticisms we hear frequently in Brazil is that that Brazilian national team counted solely on talent to win. Italy taught us a lesson on tactics and strategy.

England DO have a better head to head record against Italy and Germany as well for that matter. It might be laughable counting 1880-1920, but you lot shout and scream about about 1934 and 1938. You have won 2 world cups in the modern era. As for 1950 Italy did not even qualify for that one. England in fact invented every sport just about. Actually England were not losing game after game before Capello came along, they lost 2 european championship games, both to Croatia, out of 10 they played. Did not lose any friendlies. Under Erikson they lost once in the world cup and that was to penalties. Capellos big test will come next summer. I dont know the precise name of this world championship which even our club sides managed to win, let alone our national side. It was played ad hoc, not every 4 years but whenever.

Yes the coach organises and motivates, but the players still need the skill to put that into the practice, and the England players spend most of their time with their club coaches. I am very familiar with the 34, and 38 teams that won the cup. Nothing at all wrong with those cups. Accusations are always easy. Proof isn't. Italy were the best teams. They had the best coach, and players. In 1938 they even beat the hosts (France) 3-1. You think France wouldn't have complained if they felt cheated. Bullshit speculation. Only in 78 when Argentina "won" vs Peru 6-0 to move into qtr finals was there gov't interference. Maybe you should work for Oliver Stone.

England were the best team in the 1930s, but never bothered to turn up to the world cup. We proved that when we beat Italy 4.0 in Turin in 1937 .

The world cup is not an exact way of determining who is the best team; i mean you win 4 games, 2 by a penalty shootout on average, does that mean you are the best team, dont think so. England were not the best team in 1966 because they won 5 games all at wembley but were the best team by being unbeaten at home until 1953; 70 years unbeaten to me proves a world champion.

The best team was not allowed to compete in those world cups,; that team was England , to prove that our second team beat so called champions Italy 4.0 in Turin. Italy did not beat England until the 1960s

Italy have traditionally lost exhibition games to countries, and then beaten them soundly in the important ones. Belgium beat them before euro 2000, and during the event Italy beat them 2-0 3 wks later. This past World Cup Italy lost 2 wks before to czech repub, and then beat them in the W. Cup 2-0 as well. A 1939 exhib game means nothing.

It meant a lot to Mussolini to beat England and "ordered" his team to win in 1936 i think and the team were devastated when they didnt. Because beating England, then, was the true mark of a world champion , not winning a world cup where the best team did not enter. The 2 examples you gave me are happenchance. I am sure there are examples where Italy have won games prior to major championships then gone on and lost; France in 1986 is an example of this.

It meant more to Italians i'm sure to win a World Cup than what was still an exhibition game. I guarantee u if italy and england met in a world cup game Italy would have won. You talk about England not entering W. Cups. Well Italy did not enter in 1930 bec of a dispute over were the event should be held. I could easily say Italy would have won had they entered since they were better than Uruguay (who won). Bottom line is England's W.Cup hist not impressive.

Now youre talking about Italy not entering world cups; I think it is impressive winning the world cup as only 7 nations have managed it, only 6 in the modern era. Italy have won it twice in the modern era England once. England would have had a more impressive record if they had not been so arrogant and refused to enter the first three. Italy wanted to beat England then, in the 1930s so bad it hurt; certainly Mussolini thought so; actually there was a world cup in 1909 and 1911 in Turin .

Modern era it's 4-1 Italy in World Cups over Eng. And Italy is also 2-0 in World Cup runnerups as well. Eng never even won a Euro. There was no W. Cup in 1911 or 1909. Now you are inventing "convenient history" to inflate England to a position they don't deserve.
