@longroundtip That is right when they have been used a lot. The thing with military pistols is that they became less and less a weaponn to fight with- the horseman had his sabre- and so they were seldomly fired and stored in armouries for a long time. Hunting guns were used almost daily or at least weekly in the hands of their owners and so suffered a lot of wear such as worn down frizzens and corroded cocks, pans and venthole areas of the barrels.

As heavy as the trigger pull is on many old flintlock pistols and as heavy as they are I shake when shooting mine. Of course I shoot it with both hands.
