sounds like sabotage.these car companies want to borrow money, just to close anyway.American car companies have had ALOT of chances to upgrade or make better venicles. And they had the technologyI They KNEW the look that people love. But they chose to hypnotize us into buying. "BUY AMERICAN"they say.Not when everyone's heard a story of a foreign car that had NO maintenance for 10 yrs, yet ran well the whole time.TRY that w/ an American vehicle
Those wars have been over a long time.We drop some major bombs on that ass too.But they've been kicking our ass where counts since then.I love this country. But who cares about a team who offers inferior equipment for it's players.THAT"s the team you want me to cheer for--BUY FROM..Team? alot of Americans have made a living for years working for the other team.Meanwhile the home team is screwing over the other players in the dugout. There's no I in team.but there's an M&anE..A CEO motto ME ! sad
GM start making Cars people want to buy? What kind of crap is that, GM leads Sales in the US, and in 22 global markets, GM brands are among the top sellers in Europe, news flash people are buying their Cars and like them. The Japanese manufactures continue to post massive recalls. Toyota recalled nearly 1million cars, while GM continues to get rise in quality, if you bash GM it is most likely with out any other basis, than the fact that you are just a bias ASSHOLE.

Toyota recalled there tacoma due to the rusted bottom frame. Gm never recall because there trucks never last that long. I know a couple GM mechanic and they told me toyota and gm trucks bottom frame are build the same, Toyota recall because they dont want any law suit due to rusted bottom frame incase if an accident happens, and Gm never recall theres b/c most of them dont last that long.
Okay no offense but you really dont know what you are talking about GM has the longest lasting trucks in history and any car magazine will tell you that the Chevy Silverado is automobile magazines top pick. CR and JD power both recommend the Silverado for highest dependability. GM also has a web site called the Chevy 200,000 club dedicated to high mileage Chevy tucks. Also how many Toyotas have been is USA today for setting million miles records? Google the million mile Chevy truck.
Ford does make some really long lasting cars as well their V8s and V6s are very good engines and their are some million mile fords. the worst american company is dodge.
Please let gm go bye bye! Worst cars made! malibu was nothing but trouble, barely touched something under the hood vac fitting sucker brakes lol. CEO is an idiot at Gm
American Automakers CEOS need to pot some of their OWN fucking money into THEIR companies, SELL OF YOUR EXPENSIVE JETS, put some of your own money UPFRONT. Daimler Execs received 30 billion in end of year benefits. WHY should the American people PAY for Gm's incompetence, however those greedy exec's aren't going to put ANY of their own money into their company. So the government needs to pull them out of the hole, there should be strict rules upon this bailout.
Out of 20 cars in its class only 3 have scoreed higher than the cobalt in powertrain quality according to JD powers. Are you sure your telling the truth?Ive been a mech for 16 years and never heard of a motor going at 10K
Listen, everybody has 2 cars in the drive. if one was a pure Ev 100 mile, that's good for 340 of the 365 days a year. Then gas would be so cheap you take fuel cars on trips. There is only one good reason for not building electric cars, that is that the Car companies REFUSE TO, because there's nothing on them that WE can't fix OURSELVES. Their combustion engine tech. is to complex, therefore we have to pay THEM for the repairs and labor, hence they keep on making money long after the sale
Sadly, it takes fossil fuels to produce electricity in many areas of North America. To produce electrical components and controls to make alternate vehicles work... is huge dollars on their own! And the producers of the vehicles, and parts, and sales and such will be sugar coated to make many believe it's the right direction to take. The right change we need to make will not be quick, nor will it be cheaper.
GM a company supposed to be 'Like a Rock' reduced to begging for money ! ok boys write them a personal check out of your pocket and your kids pocket. '
let the japanese teach them how to build fuel efficient cars instead of giving TAXPAYERS MONEY!
And GM going away? no way. They won't be what they were, and the retirees will have to ka ka, but their not going away. But they will SAY what ever they have to to get their hands on the 25 billion. Then their benefits will burn through that as well, and well, it will have been a good party while it lasted. Tell you Congressman to say no to the big 3 bailout scam. GM, Ford and Crysler are going down with or without the bailout. Lets just save the money so our kids don't get stuck with the bill.
@997porsche and guess what big boy, they dug out of it and are now making big profits again :) and already got a big deal going with GE, GE filed a contract to buy 17,000 Chevy Volts.
Our Government and The Big 3 along with the oil companies have been lying to us, for all of our lives. The reason our Country is in trouble is because we haven't gotten of of oil and the combution engine. iran, russia and venezuela in case you haven't noticed just took 1-Trillion dollars out of our economy in one year, and that folks is the bottom line. if we drill, go elec. cars, wind and solar, oil will go to 15 a barrel. Beware the Global currency, and micro chips. they might be coming soon.
shut up you fucking wacko, christ everytime something happens idiots like you are never far behind are you? Europe is so awesome and well off? Did you know england is the most surveillanced nation in the entire world? You are a fucking idiot.
I understand if you don't have enough information to know that you are being screwed. Man if you haven't figured that out, your a hopeless stick in the mud. I'm not sure why anyone with a brain wouldn't want to become energy independent, as apparently you don't. As for the micro chipping of people, R U sitting down, I was made aware of this through my credit card company rep, he said his employers/the Banks were pressing our governments for it.
I sincerely hope that some of the people leaving comments grow brains. Since when are the Americans all the sudden into imports? Ever have pride for your own country? This is insane. The government needs to save the jobs and give the big 3 a crap ton of money.. and NASCAR will never die - it'll still be solid and run at least Chevrolets, Fords, and Toyotas. AS for Dodge.. I don't know, they're the weakest in the sport.
ford and chevy have been winning in just about every major rancing event taking away wins from europeans, japanese and italians for years now...look it up.
Bankruptcy = Chapter 11. All it means it that equity gets wiped-out and the debt holders control the company. They don't have to lay-off anyone per say. Chapter 11 allows them to restructure their debt.
With that said there will be many layoffs. GM failed a long time ago. Go watch the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car".
Big Oil owned GM for a while now. Do you know why we had prohibition?
I've heard the argument of bankrupt airlines still operating, but that's not a valid argument. Airline tickets only cost a few hundred, cars are tens of thousands and they involve warranties. If you buy one and they die completely you're warranty is completely gone.
Chevy does have good product. The ZR1 is a good car. For about $100,000 you can scare a European sports car worth $200,000 with the best fuel economy, braking, acceleration and cornering for the dollar. All Euros are left to bitch about is the ZR1's cheap interior. Further the Vette has competed in Le Mans style racing since the C5. The Volt looks to be an Electric car for the middle class. If that is the case would Chevy bring back the EV1 for the common man?
I wish ppl would step back and pay attentio nto the US Congress. They continue to criticize CEOs in the banking and manufacturing industries, and then give them billions of dollars.WHen your having trouble the worse thing any one can do is borrow. The only solution is to buckle down and work harder and live within your means.Congress encourages none of this.I blame Congress for almost everything
Porsche was recently considering entering the Panamera into the Nascar series, they had already tried to enter the Cayenne in the truck competitions. Haha that would be hilarious if the Germans take over this "most watched American sport" Nascar will probably allow it now since all the other American car makes and GM funding is going down the tubes. Ahh, now this will be interesting! And I might even watch an entire race or segment if Porsche was allowed in...
Can Porsche make a carbureted push rod V8?Its funny you mention NASCAR. Nascar made Toyota deball their Camry because it was performing too wel and not breaking down like the Big 3.Giving too much of an advantage to Toyo teams.Porsche will face the same thing.
The big 3 dug their own graves, nuff said. But seriously, they need to be smart. I mean, really, even when they were recording record losses they were touting that they had restored Bob Lutz's HUGE salary. Hmmm.. you're losing money under his management, so... raise his salary? BRILLIANT! God... we must be the laughing stock of the auto industry. GO AUDI!
Well, NASCAR seems to be a luxury really. I would beg to differ about it being the most watched sport. Car companies that are'nt bankrupt will sponser races for thier own cars, NASCAR fans will have to make due. ANy how, did'nt auto racing used to be about advancing technology for eventual use in everyday cars? Pro Racing is so far removed from the street that it's irrelevant any more.
I gave up on NASCAR when they began regulating performance to decrease competition.Unlike other race leagues NASCAR is not good for improving technology.NASCAR is still in the earl 80s.Imagein if NASCAR allowed elec fuel.over head cams,6spd trannies. They'd be doing over 230mph
When i do i job and make something or doi something on my car i do it the best i can and the rite way so i can be proud to say i did that i made that and that is what the big three need but i don't think that will happen
i dont know anyone ive ever met (im 25) who actually watches nascar or have ever been to a nascar race. id rather watch monster trucks/rally/drifting/auto-x/ and so on - i agree - no more left turns would be a win win situation. get rid of anything that makes less than 30mpg (city) - start from scratch with all the ppl they'll fire they can afford it. IM OFF TO CHEVY TO BUY AN 08 FOR LIKE 2 GRAND LOL. fukn bastids!!!
nissan will dominate the US - nissan and toyota = new nascar!!!
I wish someone could tell me why my 1982 Accord got 46mpg?But today the equivevelant in size Civic only gets about 30mpg.The new one is only a little quicker.I set it to the junk yard with over 280k miles runnning. But the bdy was just toast.
also - i dont want my tax money going to no big 3. when they make car parts so hard to get to - such as the newer chevy luminas... how the fuk r u goin to put a battery under a fender brace and enclose the whole thing so you need a needle nose pliers welded to your jumper cables incase you need a jump start?
they dug their own hole - i wasnt for the first 2 bailouts and im not for a fukn 3rd
i would say - go all hydrogen and electric and maybe id give em money - drop all suvs and hummers too.
and what are we left with? no big 3 - but a better more fuel efficient and cheaper import market. drifting will become the new nascar and hot import nights will take over barret jackson auction blocks!!!
vehicle companies here have screwed us over since ford signed our fates over to the oil companies to get started. its time uncle sam kicks them in the face. cars trucks get more fuel efficient engines here BUT THEY GET HEAVIER AND HEAVIER so its never really EVER changed at all. go nissan!
Congess should tell the Big 3 to make their own bed. But they won't because most of Congress is Dem.And they will do it for the UNions. The UNions are as much a problem as the manufacturers
for nascar... i wanna see it all electric... like back in the day with them lil electric car set toys haha - not a big fan of nascar, id rather see the big 3 go down because they screwed themselves prolly starting with the hummer. pontiac... hell all their cars look like a grandam so screw them... dodge... who the hell wants to buy a wanna-b hemi.. screw them.. as for ford well...sry to say but they suck as well, get a new car, not everyone likes mustangs for fuk sake :D
Aw yes, what is NASCAR's plight you ask? Well sir, it certainly seems to be quite the same as that which you have cited concerning the Big 3. NASCAR is a product of the largess we have all been enjoying in recent years from the corporate level on down.
Our entire economy is spiraling down at a rate none expected. Looks like we are headed for the Great Depression of this Century! So, what is the answer? cont'd.
So, what is the answer? HellifIknow! I will be expecting to see a scaling down of all kinds of racing. Race fans may have to seek their pleasures from less expensive venues - like Drifting or perhaps Auto Barrel Racing. I would like to see the Programmers get back to more grass roots level racing. It will be interesting to see what the Sports Programmers come up with to satiate our viewing pleasures.
I know that your not a big fan of the h2 or Hummers in all but I think that their great suv a side from mpgs but gas $ are now down. But if its not enough for people why doesn't Gm just work on a new clean Diesel like Benz for all their bigger suv's instead of getting almost nowhere with those meaningless Hybrids and use some more conventional ideas. So if you could mention this on an episode some guy colud hear it form gm and spead the word. Thanks man.
Too ask your employee's too ask there friends too write the Gov too help out bail them out? omg how low can you go? I would think the gov too buy them out and auction off i give the workers a nice farewell check
The US Federal Government should just buy GM and auction it off to raise money. That would take care of the problem. Gees, it doesn't matter how big of a company you are, if you run youself into the ground it's your own damn fault. If GM dies, you better believe there's going to be someone to step in and take their place. Replacement parts will still be available too, becaues there's a demand.
Gm is heavily vested in Europe, and the Asian countries. If GM goes down so do all the co-marketing divisions of Toyota, Saab, Nissan, Subaru, and the job shops and supplemental mfgrs. Maybe GM should sue all the companies that have had a free ride for 50 years. Since Toyota has stolen 51 GM patents, and a shit load from MB and Volvo, they would also fail. We make em we don't steal them. All auto makers have made mistakes in the past. Allowing GM to fail will be the last.
hmm...If the Big Three do indeed Fold their Hands from the Card table.... that Leaves Toyota right? what other company has been in the NASCAR series? Help me out here i haven't kept up with NASCAR in a while.
let those balsterds fall. they should have thought about that,. when they were making all these gas guzzling clunks. contributing to oil consumption, and a bad econmy 68,000 for a suv, fuckem!
A very interesting video. I believe a big part of the problem is the public's perception of GM vehicles. Their new products are very good(Malibu, Encleve, etc)but unfortunately some people still believe that they are producing the same product they were 5 years ago. A perfect example of this is China. Cars are relativly new to them, and they assess the products based on crrent quality, not what was done 10 years ago. Over there, GM outsells everybody, even Toyota.
autocross, drifting, formula 1, and drag racing. produce a world wide gran turismo like contest with privately and corporate cars racing hardcore street courses with all of the stuff listed above. You guys know this would be bad ass we should make it happen.
I dont think they will go away but they need to get thier act together, they make some good cars people like and they make alote of crap start making stuff people want and its not jut US cars hurting right now , one example is say mustang you can get the high performance v8 or the v6 the company put no work into why not make the lighter 6, high performance better handling ext. lets start making high performance 4 and 6 cil, cars like say japan, he have a few like the cobalt ss the turbo neon ext
You know why GM is going bankrupt? they put all their eggs in the proverbial "SUV Basket" and made shitty cars. I saw it coming. I will dearly miss the Corvette and Solstice GXP/Sky Redline if it goes.
too easy to kick the US automakers when they're down, would wish this on anyone. BUT, I think the US automakers should hook up to keep themselves going until they can become stable. The European auto company's do it!
When you base your entire profit strategy on lowest price possible, you eventually burn yourself. I bet if you look at the cars in GM's employee parking, or in dealers employee parking, how many GM products would you find. If you don't want to own the product you make because its too cheap for you, where do you think your job will go? I also think this is an appropriate model of whats wrong with manufacturing jobs in the US as a whole.
im not to worried about nascar but it might be best for GM and all these American manufactures to die off to make way for the new. They'll become and stay the legends that everyone who is trying to save them remembered them being. sorta of like Brittany Spears theres no returning to her glory days and its the same with these companies. the death of companies is just weeding out the weak, so if the same were to happen to Honda(...ya right) it would die and be remembered for all its done.
great show lots to discuss for sure! just gonna say that nascar can die for all i care, it is a boring motorsport and i see nothing special in it. maybe people would watch gt racing, which exhibits much better technology and is way more interesting.
Let them go I think. While GM's been busy moving more and more off shores and now begging for money from the very country it's been deserting Toyota, Mitsubishi, and others have been bringing more of there manufacturing and jobs to the US. The foreign companies are more local then our "US" auto makers.
This is full on capitalism getting their working class to write in to try save their jobs. All that means is the exploitation of them is perpetuated as is the bourgeois's ruling power over us.
wow... i am infact happy wich is again sad at the same time tht GM is pretty much done just bc i have never liked american cars and almost moved out bc my mom bought 1.. but when i think about the many people tht might be affected by this it is astonishing. to think our whole conuntrys finances and dependence is up to a car company and if it flops so will our economy. businsess will close track shut down, whole towns deserted bc or a company tht couldnt manage money.
but adding on to tht our government YES OUR GOVERNMENT!!! can pay some kind of tribute to the root of it all. the market is too lose there really needs to be some kind of regulation in these companies tht have failed wich in part helped push these car companies down as well. and i know i dnt know much but thts how i see it personally. and also nascar sad to say it just might die along with the economy and go back to how it started in short i see a bad future for the country I.E. depression...
how ever if u or your family member is in the service of these united states like mine is (mom) u just might not have anything to worry about as long as u manage your money right thru these tough times.. god speed!!
Whats sad is that the only car I care about that GM currently makes is the Vette. If the government buys out GM, you have a socialist company, and overpowered ZR1s probably aren't on top of Obamas clean list.
Nascar needs to die but the big three need to be saved but with accountability on every penny spent no more bonuses infact i think a law should be passed if a companies stocks go down any that particular year then a c.e.o. and all of managment can't have any bonuses they should only make bonuses for making the company grow and make more money.
Live and let die, All things must past, Let it be, and other obscure Beatles related references. GM and the world needs to let nature take its course and allow the weak to die. If I get diabetes from my candy habit then it's my fault and I will either die or work hard to cure myself. A doctor can't help but advise me, I will need to fix myself. Big 3 will need to do the same.
are you kidding me the big 3's cars have come along way and are on par with all of the Japanese cars. look at jdm power and associates ratings and you will see
BYE SHITTY CARS and STUPID NASCAR. Maybe now we'll have twisty tracks instead of f@)#*@#@# one big circle. If they do kill the corvette im going to create some jdm parts and slap a honda emblem on it just to piss off the dumbasses
you grow up lol. Driving in a circle takes so much skill lol. Ford and Dodge are next. YOu can keep buying your cars that suck in performance and interior styling. I would buy an 95 civic before i touch an 08 mustang. I guess all the RICERS are gonna have fun with your roundabout tracks. THANKS FOR THE SHITTY MANAGEMENT LMAO
Nascar sucks. There's nothing 'stock' about them so why do carmakers need to sponsor a product that can't be purchased on the street? Where can I buy a rear drive 800hp Ford Fusion?
yes i have. sadly i dont have speed tv so i can only watch when its on abc. espn mainly shows nascar bullshit. moto gp is only on when they are at laguna seca. rally isnt on tv and neither is any touring car racing. if you know a web site that shows anything of that sort tell me
Before SpeedTV got in good with NASCAR you could find American Le Mans, hill climbs (Pikes Peak among others), Moto GP, touring and the occasional rally. I was in heaven. Now, it seems like, if its not NASCAR it's drag racing, both bore me. Now with the economy the way it is I got rid of cable to help make ends meet, so I could not tell you. To be honest I have not considered looking for real racing on the web. I'll have to look, I'll post something here if I find anything.
Heres what I found AmericanlemansDOTcom says they have webcasts, but I could not find them. Hulu has Pinks if youre interested. Youtube is the best I have found for hill climb, Rally America has a youtube channel as well. So the internet fails to impress me when it comes to real racing. If anyone knows of better resources please let us know.
first:forget nascar,it doesnt contribute to technology,try f1 if f1 to pricey,try le mans.
second:even when gm is the biggest car maker in the world, the world doesnt 'feel it'the product doesnt really make sense in asia, euro etc,etc..gm pride it as the biggest car maker in the world by selling it only in america.
the big 3 should stop giving money to NASCAR and if they get money from the fed then the fed should get it back and give us a tax brake, who gives a crap about NASCAR when millions of Americans are about to lose there jobs.
UNIONS!!!!!!!!! GM spends more money per car on "overhead" cause by unrealistic union contracts than any other auto maker. When the US auto industry crashes and burns, unions are the main cause. Foreign manufacturers seem to be able to make cars here.
Its far eaier to make cars that people want when your average cost per employee is $45/hr than when its $76/hr. It is also pretty hard to finance car design when you employ 96,000 people but provide health care for over 1,000,000 people.
lets get rid of nascar and bring F1 back to us again i dont wanna be mean but nascar is boring too many cars chasing each other it takes months to learn each driver names and their cars by the time you achieve that they change their teams or sponsors it is all big BS also too many laps who wants to see over 40 cars circle araound all afternoon pls we had enough
The government can't set an expectation that every mismanaged company will be saved. If GM can't make a profit why should we help them. Ode to Joy if NASCAR goes under maybe we will get an F1 race in America and people will see the light of the european car manufacturers
about the qod, first of all, Nascar could use a shorter season...36 races is a bit too much at a time like this...plus if they reduce the number of races, more ppl would be excited about the next one and would be more likely to watch or go to one. And Dodge is already withdrawing from the Nascar Craftsman Truck series caus they cant win a race for shit...so lord knows what's next.
Senate Banking Committee Hearings 11/18. I like Chris Dodd who said "I don't think it's outrageous compensating employee's during an idle plant". Reffering to the union workers getting full pay during retooling. Yeah real nice Dodd...if the companies arent asking the taxpayers to fund that vacation time! Jesus Christ! Fuck them! NO BAILOUT!
you keep talking about how this car company bailout will help the company. all it will do is put off bankruptcy. if they don't make a good car (and they don't have anything good planned, except maybe the Volt) then there is no way they will survive. it happened with British Leyland. they survived for a few years with help from the government but ended up dying cause their cars were no good.
Let GM/Chrysler fail. They don't deserve to be in business - they make shit cars and would rather spend their efforts lobbying instead of developing good, competitive products. I do feel sorry for the workers though...
I hope Barack Obama's main priorities include helping our auto industry within the first hundred days. We have become so dependant on other contries for imports, sadly our car industry is one of the final pillars to crumble. If Chrysler and GM don't get their acts together, it'll only be Ford that is still standing, and face it Ford doesn't give a shit about the US market. All of their good products can only be found elsewhere. With the new Malibu I know GM can do just as good as the Japanese.
thats what gets me. Gm has always had the technology, the know how and a few years ago all the money to develop good cars. why didnt they do it? dont know. but these are the concequences. I dont feel sorry for" ooh no another part of american culture gone" its the people who work at gm that will have no jobs. thats what sucks.
Mhm, culture isn't all that important, I agree. If GM does pull through this period,
(like Chrysler did in the 80's) The progress should improve EVERY cars quality, not just the EV1, Volt, Camaro, or other "Pop cars" that are only meant for the attention of extra funds.
also if we spent 700 billion in taxes to payoff the housing that would affect everyone, why not spend 50 billion to save a company that represents america and that can cause an even worse recession than the one we are going into.
for me honestly i dont care if the car is good looking or not. i want to run good and last for a long time as long as it gets me from point a to point b.
You know, I honestly don't car what happens to nascar. I mean, I respect the guys that do all of that engine work, because thats some hard stuff, but everything else.... it's just retarted. The sport itself is just completely stupid, and I really don't understand why people even watch it. F1, on the other hand, well thats a completely different story. But bottom line, NASCAR deserves to go under, and I'm sure some of us will be happy to see it go.
I feel bad for GM, i get car and driver every month for the past 3 or 4 years, and they are truely trying to make a better product. The chevy malibu was rated as being better than the camry in a recent shootout, and the new Cobalt SS is an amazing car for the money. But GM was making mediocre cars for so long that the domestic car trust was gone. Truly chrysler should go under, ill agree with matt that they really havent made a good car for years.
The problem with Gm is that they lost touch with what there customers want and that they dont get there newer products fast enough.Case in point, there 2 most talked about products(Volt and Camaro)took entirely way too long to hit the streets(still waiting i might add).I mean come on,i heard about the new Camaro almost 5 yrs ago!Which i might add,was a big mistake to discontinue if they where just going to announce it's revival just a few years later. Was this to get ppl excited about it again?
Another thing to blame is that there is a common misconception that people still think imports are more reliable cars.....i think it is safe to say that this has not been the case in some time. I mean Gm's interior's are still shit for the most part , but engine and tranny wise run neck and neck with imports. Another is fuel economy , today there are tons of models that get the same or better
Fuck gm let'em die off no one likes them anyway lol =)

American Automakers CEOS need to pot some of their OWN fucking money into THEIR companies, SELL OF YOUR EXPENSIVE JETS, put some of your own money UPFRONT. Daimler Execs received 30 billion in end of year benefits. WHY should the American people PAY for Gm's incompetence, however those greedy exec's aren't going to put ANY of their own money into their company. So the government needs to pull them out of the hole, there should be strict rules upon this bailout.

Their combustion engine tech. is to complex, therefore we have to pay THEM for the repairs and labor, hence they keep on making money long after the sale
jvmalum 3 years ago
Sadly, it takes fossil fuels to produce electricity in many areas of North America. To produce electrical components and controls to make alternate vehicles work... is huge dollars on their own! And the producers of the vehicles, and parts, and sales and such will be sugar coated to make many believe it's the right direction to take. The right change we need to make will not be quick, nor will it be cheaper.

I sincerely hope that some of the people leaving comments grow brains. Since when are the Americans all the sudden into imports? Ever have pride for your own country? This is insane.
BlueEagle8 3 years ago
Would you buy a car from a bankrupt company.
I've heard the argument of bankrupt airlines still operating, but that's not a valid argument. Airline tickets only cost a few hundred, cars are tens of thousands and they involve warranties. If you buy one and they die completely you're warranty is completely gone.
SuperSkylineZTune 3 years ago
Chevy does have good product. The ZR1 is a good car. For about $100,000 you can scare a European sports car worth $200,000 with the best fuel economy, braking, acceleration and cornering for the dollar. All Euros are left to bitch about is the ZR1's cheap interior. Further the Vette has competed in Le Mans style racing since the C5. The Volt looks to be an Electric car for the middle class. If that is the case would Chevy bring back the EV1 for the common man?

Porsche was recently considering entering the Panamera into the Nascar series, they had already tried to enter the Cayenne in the truck competitions. Haha that would be hilarious if the Germans take over this "most watched American sport" Nascar will probably allow it now since all the other American car makes and GM funding is going down the tubes. Ahh, now this will be interesting! And I might even watch an entire race or segment if Porsche was allowed in...
golfguy11800 3 years ago

GO AUDI!
DanteJoseCuervo 3 years ago

So, what is the answer? cont'd.
racemup 3 years ago

Thanks man.

The US Federal Government should just buy GM and auction it off to raise money. That would take care of the problem.

Its far eaier to make cars that people want when your average cost per employee is $45/hr than when its $76/hr. It is also pretty hard to finance car design when you employ 96,000 people but provide health care for over 1,000,000 people.

skip nascar the age of f1 racing for america has come
vtecboi18 3 years ago
lets get rid of nascar and bring F1 back to us again i dont wanna be mean but nascar is boring too many cars chasing each other it takes months to learn each driver names and their cars by the time you achieve that they change their teams or sponsors it is all big BS also too many laps who wants to see over 40 cars circle araound all afternoon pls we had enough

The government can't set an expectation that every mismanaged company will be saved. If GM can't make a profit why should we help them. Ode to Joy if NASCAR goes under maybe we will get an F1 race in America and people will see the light of the european car manufacturers

totally agree with you man

about the qod, first of all, Nascar could use a shorter season...36 races is a bit too much at a time like this...plus if they reduce the number of races, more ppl would be excited about the next one and would be more likely to watch or go to one. And Dodge is already withdrawing from the Nascar Craftsman Truck series caus they cant win a race for shit...so lord knows what's next.

strange days indeed

Apparently a GM ad exec is writing your titles.....he misspelled "business".

QOD answer?
nascar will die and be replaced by a real race where the turns are a bit harder than a long easy left.

I dont feel sorry for" ooh no another part of american culture gone" its the people who work at gm that will have no jobs. thats what sucks.
edersiomoran 3 years ago
Mhm, culture isn't all that important, I agree. If GM does pull through this period,
(like Chrysler did in the 80's) The progress should improve EVERY cars quality, not just the EV1, Volt, Camaro, or other "Pop cars" that are only meant for the attention of extra funds.
FreekishlyRad 3 years ago
also if we spent 700 billion in taxes to payoff the housing that would affect everyone, why not spend 50 billion to save a company that represents america and that can cause an even worse recession than the one we are going into.

for me honestly i dont care if the car is good looking or not. i want to run good and last for a long time as long as it gets me from point a to point b.
BlazingCheerio 3 years ago
You know, I honestly don't car what happens to nascar. I mean, I respect the guys that do all of that engine work, because thats some hard stuff, but everything else.... it's just retarted. The sport itself is just completely stupid, and I really don't understand why people even watch it. F1, on the other hand, well thats a completely different story. But bottom line, NASCAR deserves to go under, and I'm sure some of us will be happy to see it go.

tbh GM shud just bring all there european models to teh U.S cuz they handle a ehck of alot better and more fuel efficent than the american versions

BUY AMERICAN
cartman4720 3 years ago
The problem with Gm is that they lost touch with what there customers want and that they dont get there newer products fast enough.Case in point, there 2 most talked about products(Volt and Camaro)took entirely way too long to hit the streets(still waiting i might add).I mean come on,i heard about the new Camaro almost 5 yrs ago!Which i might add,was a big mistake to discontinue if they where just going to announce it's revival just a few years later. Was this to get ppl excited about it again?
DarkDragoon83 3 years ago
Another thing to blame is that there is a common misconception that people still think imports are more reliable cars.....i think it is safe to say that this has not been the case in some time. I mean Gm's interior's are still shit for the most part , but engine and tranny wise run neck and neck with imports. Another is fuel economy , today there are tons of models that get the same or better
DarkDragoon83 3 years ago
nascar fans should just get into F1 or rally ~__~''' they might be scared of right turns but theyll get use2 it :D
