Ever notice that as a kid, Trunks was GOING to get knocked out before a fight at the same age? in the future timeline he gets knocked out by Gohan before he dies. In the Main Timeline he gets knocked out by Vegeta before Vegeta Dies. Interesting huh? some things are FATE

Future trunks is more badass then present trunks because he had to earn to become a super saiyan with training and pain of loss AND training with vegeta in the time chamber wereas present trunks barely did shit and went though hardly any pain and becomes super saiyan 3 with goten? and since future trunks went through a harder life he gets the job done with no mercy.. future trunks rules!!
