@sknywhtboy88 He means chronologically. As in, when they happened in the universe itself. Kevin Smith himself said Mallrats takes place before Clerks. And no, don't automatically assume that the movies take place the year/time they were made. But, Jay and Bob in-universe had to have happened more than a couple of weeks, because Affleck's character, in a deleted scene, says he's been waiting years to say something to the characters of Jay and Bob.

Yeah maybe Clerks is a bit more um...stupid? than Clerks, I still love it. Objectively, I'd say that is not a great movie like Clerks, Chasing Amy or Clerks II, but in a way I find it to be one of my favorites, probably tieing with Clerks II.

I will never understand the praise MALLRATS gets; it seems like everyone who loves it laughed their asses off, while I'm just shaking my head at disbelief. And I'm a huge Kevin Smith / View Askew fan, ok, I get the in-jokes. But I felt MALLRATS was just a pointless series of vignettes which added up to zilch. I didn't give a fuck about these guys in terms of going to the mall to try to get their girlfriends back. Not one bit!

2. Clerks: Set One Day AFTER Mallrats.

3. Chasing Amy: Set Either a few Weeks or a few months after Clerks.

4. Dogma: Set probably a few months after Chasing Amy.

5. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back: Set a few weeks after Dogma

6. Clerks II: Set 1 or 2 years after J&SB-SB

And considering Elias's excitement about the upcoming Transformers movie, and the discussion about the LOTR movies, the last of which came out in 2003 I'm pretty your a bit off. And not just that but, while there no conclusive proof, I'd say that Chasing Amy takes place a few years after Clerks, I'd say in its year of release, same with Jay and Bob which also references movies like X-men.

@sknywhtboy88 clerks looks to be near the end of the year, so itd be 1995 when chasing amy was set, chasing amy takes course over many months, snow months even so itd be a year then, at the end of the movie its one year later, so its safe to say its 1997 by the time dogma is, maybe jay & silent bob strikes back could be about 2001-2002, then! clerks 2 would be in 2003 after the last LOTR film, Transformers has been in development hell since 2003, & it would be 10 yrs since 1994, so im correct.

@DXFan1269 you originally said that Jay&Bob was a few weeks after Dogma, not 4 years... and Dogma (if you choose to count it, which I don't but that's not important) takes place soon after Jay and Bob leave the diner in Chasing Amy, so it would technically take place before the end of Chasing Amy. Clerks takes place in April, one day after Mallrats where Easter is approaching. And overall, you have to consider that the rest of the movies don't say how they relate in the timeline/ cont>

@demoskunk in Clerks, ages are never specified but we can assume that they are in there 20s, but, noting my near-flawless explaination stated above which proves that Clerks 2 would be close to 10 years after the original (even in the movie Randal says to Dante "Shit, i remember like 10 years ago, when we went to Julie Dwyers Funeral") so yet again, my logic is correct.
