I'm a violinist too (9 years) but the warm and deep sound of the cello and the great job that Apocalyptica does make me sometimes wish I'd have chosen the violoncello...

Once, In a camp for strings we tried to cover "Path" from Apoclyptica with cellos, violas and violins, using theese small microphones u can stick under the strings. Cellos made the bass, violas and violins the melody.

And it worked!

"Violinyptica" is possible!

but you need at least one cello or so to give it a foudation.

actually i am quite annoyed too by the fact the decided to introduce other instruments (like electric guitar) besides the drums (about which i wasnt very enthusiastic either, and btw, in this track they are especially bad.. for me) .. i've "fallen inlove" with their music after hearing Inquisition Symphony album, and i simply liked it for the simple fact they used simple cellos.. to bad they decided to go more to the comercial side... way to far for my taste from where they first started.

Listening to all their songs make me wish sometimes I chose the cello over the violin. I mean don't get me wrong the violin is a magnifacent(sp) instrument but the cello is so deep and mysterious depending on how it's played an the music it is eing played too. Overall, these songs are lovely... Just lovely.

Totally agree... I much prefer the darker melodies you can produce. Violins seem to be a more solo instrument. Plus, you get an excuse to sit down =)

I think Violins can be used as well to produce dark melodies, but since cello have lower strings, they can prduce a more grim and beautiful sound =D

I don't know... :) I am a violinist, so maybe I am just biased, but I think that even though a violin is higher pitched it can be just as grim and dark. Then too, I have never heard of anybody really trying to make a violin rock group in the same vein as Apocalyptica's cellos. I've heard some extremely raw, beautifully passionate and heartrending sounds come from a violin before. Maybe it's about high time somebody make a violin version of Apocalyptica..hmm.food for thought. Who'd we cover?

That is true, a violin can be just as grim and dark even with it's higher pitch and it's just as wonderful sounding as the cello is. The fact that there are no rock based violin groups like Apocalyptica is also true... It's a great question on who'd we cover as violins though =)

hey yourmomscrewme - ask your dad why the vast majority of bands have drums in them if they're not a real instrument? Also, did you know that drummers are often the hardest musicians to find? everyone needs drummers :)

one of my very best friends is a street drummer. he makes the most rediculous shows and everyone goes nuts over it. no matter what style of clothes people are wearing or what their age is, they have to stop and watch because he's so off the hook.
