I am a credentialed firefighter with EMT and smokejumping skills and I've tried to get hired at over a dozen fire houses, each of whom categorically rejected my applications on the basis that I am neither black, nor gay nor female.
As a test, on 3 fax-in applications, I ticked the box FEMALE and AFRICAN-AMERICAN as ethnicity.
I received eager calls from 3 different recruiters the very next day...
