  • what happened to Gwyn Jones, she was tasty

  • Anyone knows the name for this news theme? Thankyou!

  • This isn't music you want to wake up to

  • this does bring back memories of my childhood. as soon as i heard this theme tune i knew it was way past my bedtime. and the tune captures the seriesness of the news and my mum shouting 'GET TO BED YOU'VE GOT SCHOOL IN THE MORNING' lol. this tune is brill, way better than today bring it back the new ones just dont cut the ice like this one

  • Did you actually get up in the morning just to watch the Morning news?

  • i personally would glam this song with some vocals at 0:09 with "here comes the news" sung by a woman...lol

  • if you were up all nigth and when you saw tis you know it was all most morring and time to get up

  • Judging by online articles I've seen, this is likely to be from the morning of Friday 14th March 1997. RobinCarmody can probably confirm this.

  • I love the opening to the ITN news from 1996 its too bad they cant make TV like this anymore thanks for upoading this

  • The strange thing about this very clever studio is that it was in the very same place of the studio used before it.

  • That JUST bought back memories from my childhood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this theme was one of my FAVES!!!!

  • Great theme music for only to be seen by very little people so early in the morning lol.

  • Yes, but to be fair, both the Morning and Lunchtime News shared this particular theme package! The Early Evening News carried slightly different arrangements of these themes though.

Great look for ITN bulletins... would work very well on-screen even today.

  • I rather like the open here.

  • February 1997

  • did they use a different version of the music for the morning news and give it an orange tint?

  • Wasn't Billy Jo Jenkins killed in 1997, so this cant be 1996.

  • The specific report is quite possibly from early 1997, I just refer to the general era of these things sometimes (they were using the look in 1996 for example). Exact date is pretty vaguely estimated based upon a combination of Advert dates listed in the breaks, and the fact I'm quite sure it predates June 97.

  • It's 1997 okay.

  • who on earth is Gwin Jones?

  • an ITN newscaster

  • an ITN Newscaster

  • an ITN Newscaster

  • an ITN Newsreader

  • Most probably a relief presenter.

  • :P not quite true, if I'm staying up to do my uni assignments I watch the news too and I'm 18!

  • lol, yeah i know it was a joke - good to see news at 10 back! .... i watched this when my little girl was a baby up in the wee small hours sometimes to

  • Doing assignments at that time in the morning... tut tut lol.

I stayed up and watched in the day before A-Level results being released due to not being able to sleep... Jeremy Kyle at 4am.. how sad.

  • Good point.

  • she sound tired

  • Wouldn't you be tired if you had to do something like this at 5:30 in the morning? I'm sure that I would! lol

  • I reckon the coninuity announcer first thing in the morning on Radio 4 would feel the same at 0530 in the morning when they do their news briefing.

  • Hey, finally I've found the old titles that don't feature the defective Big Ben.

  • Bit of a sour puss aint she?

  • I think you would be to if you had been reading the news over night!!

  • I'd do it ^^
