  • My trucks got a winch and more than ur car

  • The funny part is, my 1998 dodge durango which I have invested less than $2000 of mods in could not only out-off road any of those vehicles, but also has a winch with winch to rescue them.

    But its not truly a fair comparison, offroading in the states is so very different than offroading in europe......or hell....anywhere else for that matter. Its ingrained in a lot of peoples culture.

    Seriously though, haven't brits heard about recovery straps?

  • when I first started watching all the vids on off road vehicles I did favor the Jeep, after all I am an American and have owned a few of them. Now i am a total RR fan, all i have to do is save for 5 years to be able to afford one that is 5 years old.

  • jemc7 you will need to save up alot more because after all, the range rover has been on almost every "bad buy" list since they made them, and currently holds the title as the worlds most unreliable 4WD, dont think the RRs ONE locker will help you, the RR doesnt articulate at all, you will need the Land Cruisers front AND rear AND center diff locks and the Toyotas reliability and their awesome articulation if you plan on off roading...hell youd be better off in a Jeep

  • What awesome Toyota articulation? Superior capability is what separates LR from Toyota, whereas reliability is what separates Toyota from some later model LR's. Thats it.

    Further to compare the LC, Toyos most capable 4WD to the RR is innapropriate, comparisons should be made to the Defender.

    If you judge the merit of a 4WD merely by the number of lockers Toyo win by 1, RR and LR3 have centre and rear lockers, and yet the Toyo fails to be better.

    People like your good self do not know how to drive a Land Rover, as all Land Rover owners, enthusiasts and followers know. This of course is why vehicles such as the Land Cruiser were invented in the first place.

  • land rover is a joke, id take a land cruiser anyday, its better off road, the most reliable car on the face of the earth, it will take anything that mother nature can throw at it, their engines never quit, and they are FAR better built .

  • the land cruiiser may be more durable,but the rabge rover is more capible off road,the land cruiser dosen't have the range rovers 11.5 inches of ground clearance,the suspension is softer,and it has a rear locker

  • what about the cruisers front AND rear diff locks? or the toyota snorkle bull ba,r rock sliders or PTO winch.

    the ONLY reason the RR has a higher ground clearence is because it doesnt have SOLID axles like the Land Cruiser does.

    even you cant sit there and tell me the the rovers suspension is better for off road, while it is smooth ON road it has NO articulation and is possibly the MOST unreliable thing about the RR.

    allin all the RR is pretty but its a completely shitty vehicle for off road

  • the suspension system on the rr is more balanced,the front of the land crusier is stiffer than the back,the irs in the range rover can flex just as well as the land crusiers solid axle,under extreme conditions the rear end locks to make it act as if it where a solid axle,u should stop judging things by the way they look

  • HA! why just two weeks ago I went to a LR dealer evnt with my 97 80 series, on their ramps that show flex, the defenders,freelander,RR,explor­er(LR3), ALL had tires leave the ground, then they asked me to do it to show how "inferior" my rig was, all 4 wheels stayed on the ground, I didnt have to turn lockers on like the RR did, and Thomas(the head guy) asked me not to go any more obstacles, when I asked him why he said because your making us look bad! think what you want BUT it cant flex for shit

  • im comparing the newer models as well, they still make a solid axle 200, 72, 76, 78, 79 trayback series in other countries, they are not sold in US but in 140 other countries they are

  • in US only, they still have lockers, and are availible from toyota with solid axles, my 01 cruiser bought in US has lockers solid front and rear axles, I paid a pretty price to get it over here but, its worth it, I can say ive never gotten stuck in it and I wheel with 2 RRC and an 07 HSE and they get stuck and struggle in places my 100 series walks through, and the 91 RRC has lockers,and the Toyota does better

  • yah but the newer models don't have any axle lockers,they just have limited slip,and its the same limited system as in the lx470,the range rovers limited slip system seems to work better!

    But you have something very much against landies. You are in every place wathing these videos and complaining about them. Why you watch them if you hate them so much ? Or is it so that you actually like Land Rovers ? Maybe you wish that toyota would do the same.

  • I watch them because I enjoy a good laugh every now and then. Plus Top Gear is one of my favorite shows. I didnt say Cruisers dont get stuck...they do....bad, I just said I never got stuck in my 01, I dont abuse it as much as my others to be fair though

"the Jeep did surprisingly well for an American car"????? the Grand Cherokee is legendary, and will show up a Range Rover that costs twice as much any day (ok the new model Grand Cherokee's wont but the one he had was the best). so since he has nothing to complain about he judges an off road car by its simplicity (less complicated BS lasts longer off road) and its not so glamorous interior. im not judging my euro friends, im just pointing out a problem among them.

  • Ranger Rovers and Land cruisers are the best 4x4s hands down. Now a Range Rover is something can be taken to the car wash after going off-road and take it to the fanciest club and feel proud of it while people look at you with envy.   • I'd take a Wrangler over a Defender any day. And put it this way; I've seen brand new Hemi Grand Cherokees go for £28,000. A TDV8 Range Rover starts at £54,000 or so.

  • Land Rover and Jeep both rock..I prefer either over Japanese. I like the defender as well but it isnt available in the states anymore..and the used ones are WAY expensive! I love the Rangie but not many of them over here go offroad(fear of damage). I see more Discos. And youre right about that price difference! I thought Brits didnt like Jeep..lol. I drive an 04' Grand Cherokee.

    can you tell me what engine they offered in the Defender?

    I drive a Jeep (YJ Wrangler) but I drive my dad's Range Rover Supercharged reasonably regularly. The Jeep isn't as nice on road but off the road it's in a class of it's own. Of course that's partly down to tyres-I've got BFG All Terrains on the Jeep but my dad has Continental Sport Contacts on the RR

    And yea tires make a difference. I wikipediaed the Defender. Its seems that the engines offered in the USA were the 3.9 & 4.0 V8. Im not sure about specs and hp.

    right, we had the V8s offered here but no one ever bought them really-they're really rare.We started off with the 200TDi and the 300TDi and went to the TD5 and now the TD4. I don't think we need more specs- the names would suffice I guess

    fuel prices are ridiculous-it's not even possible to buy a petrol Disco over here anymore and they stopped offering the 4.4l Range Rover.we pay about $11-12 per gallon I think

    Wow! So many people here bitch about high gas prices..but we are still paying under $4 so actually we've been really lucky when Europe has had to pay so much. So TDI only? Wow. Yea, we are starting to see more diesel options here too.

  • yeah that's the problem. I've had my Jeep for a year or so now and it's crippling me on fuel alone. I'm 20- I just cannot really afford 21mpg or so. Ah well, I never want to lose my Jeep so I'll have to keep on this way

  • You do what you like I, myself prefer the Chevy with Detroit Lockers front and rear and the largest Gumbo Monster Mudders and watch and watch and watch me do what all of you only dream of!

  • Take a look and compare, how gentle he drives the Range Rover. He avoids wheelspin wich would result in loss of traction. And look how he pushes the pedal to the metal with the other cars. He always makes look non britisch cars, bad.

  • Please dond't forget how easy it is, to let look this modern cars bad. If it is slippery and wet, just give gas and let the wheels spin. You will go no were. Spinning wheels means no traction. It is easy to manipulate such videos. Drive with out wheel spin and you will travel much further.

  • Range Rover utilizes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to prevent the wheels from spinning, even if the pedal is pushed "to the metal." Brakes and engine speed is manipulated to keep the vehicle from losing control. Some automakers call it ESC, but Land Rover engineered it with OFF-ROADING in mind, making it even more effective during on-road situations. Of course, DSC can be disabled if needed, such as deep sand where you WANT to spin the wheels to keep momentum.

  • Quick look at 05:53 and you see how the wheels spin. ETC is not as effective as full lockers. Jeep Grand Cherokee uses Varilok in front and rear axle wich is more capable. Traction also is a matter from the tires, they are the most important.

  • I'll say something...he looked like he was having a LOT more fun in the Jeep than in the Range Rover.....and I don't think it'd be possible to have more fun offroad than in a 1995 4.0l YJ Wrangler
