  • Neil, You are one of my very few musical heroes.

    I love everything you do.

    You are a genius.

    Move over Sir Andrew!

  • @theloudhalo I forgot to say - this is a terrible video. It does not do justice to the song! Get rid of all those striped people and silly women in green. It takes away from the song. There is TOO much going on here.

  • Great tune

  • Aah. Just classic. So under appreciated for the genius of lyric and the whole nostalgic feel of much of his work. I love it.

  • 'Turn my frog into a cow' is a classic line.

  • Stumbled on this looking for stand up comedy..........Loved it.

  • soo beautiful. i found divine comedy in wikipedia, when i'm studying about baroque for my exam (i'm a music academician), i just known baroque pop and accidentally found this band. divine comedy will always be my favorite band. :D

  • Thank you Tory Boy! You are wrong though - you are right up my street.

    RIP Cedric the frog. x

  • Is the name on the boat "valerie" at the end the name of Hannon's real frog princess? A song like this is usually inspired by personal experience and I don't think frog princesses are just exclusive to France.

  • 5 People fell for this woman.

  • Just genius

  • Just genius

  • I dedicate this to any man who has had the misfortune of having a Parisian girlfriend

  • he's got Ray Davies, Jim Morrison, Stephen Merritt, and Scott Walker mixed into one.

  • neil hannon is a musical genius underated and his songs deserve to be bigger hits

  • Have not seen this. Thanks for posting. Being a huge fan of N.H.

  • I.love.this.song...forever

  • I.love.this.song...forever

  • Ive enjoyed this song since the day it was born. A cliche i know but they don't make songs like this today. Mr Hannnon is a lyrical genius. End of. Fact.

  • In my top ten of all time. Funny and sweet. This song brings back memories and makes me happy and sad in equal measure. Neil Hannon is sorely underrated and this song is criminally overlooked.

  • We had this at the end of my partner's funeral{he was only 26].His choice!Made everyone smile through the tearsFabulous smong.Makes me smile and cry in equal measure x.

  • @crassazell sorry to hear that, so sad. good choice of music. hope you are ok.

  • "I come and go through people's love lives..."

    Brilliant.

    Truly.

  • Hmmm, lot of people are saying this is a loe song but if they listenend to the lyrics they would find its quite the opposite.

  • from the atlantic West Coast Lands (from Galicia - La Coruña)

    The old NeiL!

    JUST beCAUSE WE LOVE YOU!!

GREAT ARTIST, SO SMART, SO BANG, JA JÁ!!

  • Brilliant song, unfortunatly it's been saddled with a mediocre and garish video.

  • @TheBearMcGowan erm, witty and ironic. are yu americab or oirish, as that would expin your comment

  • @gramule Since I made that comment I've actually noticed that theres a hell of a lot of music videos from the mid 90's that use a very similar style/colour scheme ie. very bright primary colours contrasting with dark and mature lyrics - check out - 'Heartshaped Box' - Nirvana

    'Trash' - Suede

'Not So Manic Now' - Dubstar

'What Do I Now' - Sleeper

  • @gramule Also check out

'Sale Of The Century' - Sleeper

    'Common People' - Pulp

PS: If I was Americab(sic) I'd spell colour without any 'U'

PPs Still like the song but not the video!

  • @TheBearMcGowan thanks will do, great band. peace

  • a talent beyond compare

  • Masterpiece

  • He would make an awesome 'old school' James Bond. :-D

  • Such a cute and funny lovesong. :-)

And yes Neil is a true genius on all levels.

  • Musical genius, Neil Hannon, a truly great song. Apparently the song is about an ex girlfriend he ended up hating. The boat at the end has the name " Valerie"....and have always wondered if that was her name...

  • how did i not know this video existed?! O_O

  • Oh goodness. If he wanted to kiss me i'd totally oblige.

  • i love some of the expressions he makes, he's a genius on so many levels

  • Neil Hannon is a f****in genius. Sadly, the video is not as good as it should be, but I'm sure that the strength of TDC is on music, not in the visuals (except maybe in the Regeneration era)

  • Is it me , or is this a teeny bit racist?

  • why? please explain?

  • because frog is a racial slur for a french person and the video appears to be set in some sort of psychadelic 'allo 'allo version of france...just me then!

  • qui, just you! and there was me thinking it was neil being a teeny bit ironic. c'est la vie. lol.

  • @TheMegarabbit This is a play on kissing a frog who turns into a prince. Are you saying that fairy tale was also a dig at the French?

  • oh the video is tosh. there are so many visions conjured by the lyrics, and accents from the song that... well how do you come up with these images ?? is it me; or does everyone see Hannon chatting across over his sleeping (somewhat demonic) Monroe-like, lipstick-laden ... hussie !?!

  • I've always loved the song but I don't feel that the video gives the song justice. I love the band and it seems like money might've been a contributing editor to the video but yea I think that if they got the proper budget it could be ten times better.

  • @Devininity

The sad thing is that I think its deliberately cheap-looking. They probably paid alot of money to made it look that bad! Unfortunately it doesn't really work.

  • This is for McGovern. A great taste in women and an even better one in music. Neil Hannon is just incredible (and seriously under-rated).

  • How was I to know that just one kiss would turn my frog into a cow?

XD OFMG he's truely talented and it shows in his lyric writing.

  • Haha, he looks like Sean from Mega64. Except more British. I like the song, by the way.

  • .... kay.

  • Never heard The Magnetic Fields influence so strong.

  • Bullshit. The Divine Comedy released its first album (in 1990) before The Magnetic Fields (1990). Neil Hannon's been doing the same thing as Merritt for years. Plus, would you have been saying this at the time of The Frog Princess's release in the summer of 1996 - I doubt it. Yup, this son is over 13 years old. THIRTEEN YEARS OLD.

  • I mean, the Magnetic Fields' first album came out in 1991 ... AND ... "this song is over 13 years old". FUCK. Damn typey hands. They go so fast. I remember watching this live when I was but a teen. *a solitary tear drops from my face*.

  • Class song

  • Brilliant song

  • not heard this for 10? years.

amazing song. genious !! i met a girl, she was a complete mess. as they say in mexico, fabulosos lmao. i had a few drinks and this is fucking magic !!!!

  • Excellent.....

  • can't believe i hadn't listened to him in 8 years!

  • i love this song. havnt heard it for ages. thanx.

  • If you listen carefully you can hear the drum roll before the guillotine drops and the gentle snick as the imagined head of the object of all of his trouble drops into the basket to the cheer of the crowd!

  • My daughter bought me an iaudio for my 50th. Based on my Beatles/Bach/Flanders & Swann/Radiohead/Police/Floyd CD collection she decided I needed Divine Comedy to complete my education and how right she was!

  • How lucky alérie was/is! :)

How an artist! What a voice!

  • Beautiful song, I bought their collection A secret history recently... just amazing.

  • Very under rated song

  • I adore The Divine Comedy <33
