there is a better way! thinking can be your most important step in the process of discovery. The manner by which a person comes about those bubbling up notions and ideas is important. to be conscious of that process is tough and has been the subject of not only this video but of religious disscussion and philisophical , academic alike.
I invested the two seconds necessary to press the like-button and make this video a favorite. If a lot of us do that more people will find it, and maybe some of them will use what they learn to change the world. Much to win, little to loose :)
I am a thirty three year old guy who one time dropped out of architectural school, who for the past seven years have been trading in used books and who plans to study biochemistry. This is the kind of speech I need.
This is one of the most inspiring talks on our future I have heard. Challenging the sci-fi and not stuck in the skeletons of existing mindsets and technologies.
@brickmastertube Apparently when Robert Downey sat down to discuss building the character of Tony Stark, he said "We need to go speak to Elon Musk" - Elon builds space rockets
Doctors used to feel obligated to care for the sick and treat the wounded; it came with the profession and was part of the profession. Now the Insurance companies have taken control of the health care "industry." Health care is not an "industry" and the health insurance companies are refined scum. They profit off disease, pain, and despair. The insurance companies have a monopoly over the health care system in the same fashion as Rockefeller Standard Oil. Now we will be forced to pay them.
This sounds like a kabbalah presentation; advanced engineering, astronomy, and mathematics have been around a lot longer than a few hundred years. Libraries have been burned and civilizations have been destroyed and lost. There was man made illumination, indoor plumbing, automated machines, and advanced causeways and roads in ancient Rome. It is avarice and corruption among the elite of advanced societies that destroys our progress. The Mayans were masters of astronomy. History repeats itself..
Can't believe this has been up since March 2010 and I only just found it now... What an excellent presentation. I never listen to people who tell me that something can't be done, I have been on a mission to discover anti-gravity technology for the past 5 years and I have probably come closer to making it a reality than anyone who has tried before... Why? Because I think like this guy, and if more people don't start thinking like this we're all doomed....
@AlienScientist "I have been on a mission to discover anti-gravity technology for the past 5 years" Oh? How lovely! How's that "mission" goin for you there, sparky? Clearly, time well-spent. A testament to misguided enthusiasm, as opposed to feasible and forward-thinking areas of study. Mr. Diamandis would presumably giggle at this. What on earth with the tin-foil hat people do without their conspiracy theories? Life would certainly hold less meaning.
This video is so rich with information that inspired me personally, and i somehow cried at the part of professor hawking into the weightlessness, i felt as if u made one of his dreams come true, i can just say " THANK YOU".....

@Ekergaard
If you are interested in studying Biochemistry you could start that now there is many video here on youtube of university lectures on biochemistry.
Mathematics is a good tool to start studying science and it can give you the ability to model many different fields of science.

Anyone else reminded of Robert Downey Jr watching this guy? Maybe it's just his voice.

@ForkCheck
It actually reminds me of Tony Stark. Actually, Tony Stark is probably inspired by people like Diamandis and X Prize competitors.

Introduction to rocket science should be required learning for high school students.

"...nobody on the moon in 1961 to landing on it in 1969..." To making absolutely NO progress for 50 years.
The only scale I could possibly compare this to is inventing the wheel, rolling it down a hill- and never using the wheel again..
