  • consciousness is a universal force.....our bodies are the receivers.....

  • I do believe there are degrees of consciousness. Eg. Humans are very conscious, dogs are less conscious, spiders less still. This goes on down to the first life forms. Consciousness then can be seen as the degree by which one is aware of their environment. The first life forms may have only been conscious of a single thing, eg. some may have been sensitive to a certain frequency of light, others to something else. These evolved and came together to make us. Consciousness was there all along.

  • w w w . s i m o n o t h e s o f a . c o m

  • Sorry that I interrapt with my not relevant question. I am interested in anything on the matter of united field. I want to join events in Amsterdam. Where I can find informaition about it?

  • The brain is not the producer of consciousness at all, it is merely correlated with consciousness. Materialism is on the way out.

  • @AnduinX why?

  • @RoyManter: I think that the materialist model of consciousness conflicts with too much of what we can observe. In cases of severe hydrocephalus as well as the more impressive cases of terminal lucidity, there are people who have a sliver of a fraction of the brain mass of a normal person, and yet display seemingly no cognitive deficits. Additionally, to this day neuroscience has found no neural correlate for consciousness.

  • @AnduinX yes, i have the same information

  • @RoyMenter: How does the fact that some brainless single-cell organisms, can learn, avoid predators, find mates, find food, and have sex fit in with the materialist model? Not to mention there’s a great deal of compelling anecdotal evidence out there, such as veridical perception during NDEs – even in the blind.

  • @RoyMenter: The materialist model survives by classifying most of what it conflicts with as ‘mysteries to be solved before the model is proven correct’, and outright dismisses the anecdotal. This is a failure, I think. A better model of consciousness would be one that works with everything that we know, and conflicts with nothing.

  • @AnduinX i totally agree

  • @RoyMenter: This model already exists, and is summed up well by Cyril Burt: “The brain is not an organ that generates consciousness, but rather an instrument evolved to limit the processes of consciousness and of conscious attention so as to restrict them to those aspects of the material environment which at any moment are crucial for the terrestrial success of the individual”

  • @AnduinX with only that information i can say that the moon is the size of the sun but we can only see the moon we all know, cause it INTERACT only with photons and such, but the oder part dont interact and therefore exist. With those condition it doesnt exist.

I know that isnt the whole theory, but with those argument one can assume anything

  • There is evidence suggesting plants may have consciousness. If they do then the idea that the brain produces consciousness goes out the window! Even right now we know that worms have experience and yet do they even have a brain? the brain doens't produce consciousness. reality is perception, we are reality and we are "God".

  • @circusofprecision Well said. It's exciting to see your comment first thing. Everyone is going to wake up to the fact that consciousness or perception is a fundamental part of reality! the rest is bullshit.

  • It's a shame the animals are used in the experiments as unwitting participants.

  • @Elphadyre maybe we've got to ask them?

  • @faz182 define matter

  • May be just minus out all the identified areas of the brain then we will find the consciousness area.

  • by the language centers pathways that can be signaled to respond to the info needed to be passed on through the language center. Like a network that relays info to the language centers ability to speak or store etc....

  • The language center sends out a pathway to other parts of the brain. The pathways or channels form consciousness relative to what sense is being stimulated, in this instance the language center and the voice mechanisms. When speaking it's the part of the brain active because the pathways are expanding to all parts to send and receive info ie chemicals etc that form the need the consciousness has to complete it's task,ie complete the sentence. The info is in many different parts and is activated

  • The language center signals other parts of the brain to give the form to the words being spoken in the sentence or not.

  • The senses are the brains tools and can communicate with any of the brains centers. i think it makes correct sense to understand when a person talks, the brains language center is processing and the voice box vibrates, the jaw and tongue move. Information that the persons consciousness wants to speak to explain what it is they are saying to open and close a sentence depends on their knowledge to form words and sentences. The language part needs to access other parts to function properly.

  • science has documented that the brain has many parts to it relative to processing and recognizing and calculating and many more built in applied traits of being human. In respect to the honorable gentleman's presentation i see his logic in discursively explaining what science has not gotten to explain yet. We cannot exist anywhere other than the body we inhabit as a being of self conceptual awareness. Experiments in consciousness test the actual control of awareness the brain might have.

  • No sound to hear and I cant lip read !! pointless really.

  • @VictorYourMind not any more, 2 day later = SOUND, yey. thanks.

  • 18:06 interesting lecture sir, i would like to hear the debate

  • Chalmers' "hard question" is going to be the new scientific paradigm, or at least I hope that is the case!

  • We had a drink before this lecture..Dr. Francis is a bit tipsy here! :P

  • thanks for the lecture is the conciousness of blind man same with usual man ?

  • Many Thanks

  • i like the subject but my this guy's so boring

  • 17:12 ^_^

  • I'd like to inform

    Science & Psychokinesis

Fact. I see through the objects:walls, stons, beam, hands, other. I have created images:portraits, animal's faces on Clouds & Varnish from long distance and to give intentional shape, the area in the clouds must be established before the test.

  • Thanks very much!

  • ah, theorizing observations with old conclusions doesn't really get anywhere.

  • Is this the same Francis Crick who worked with Watson in discovering the Double Helix?

  • Yes, and in fact he was high on LSD when he discovered it. No joke. He admitted to it shortly before passing away.

  • Nothin wrong with that, so long as he didn't do it every day for a month or more lol!

  • Such a snobby fart

  • He is so far off the mark. He's looking for consciousness in the brain when the brain itself is nothing more than an appearance in Consciousness. "The All is

    Mind; The Universe is Mental."

  • - evidence?

    - i would speculate that you are mental :)

  • The evidence is in the fact that your brain is where everything else that appears to be physical is, in CONSCIOUSNESS. A mental process.

  • @lordofthemystic thats an opinion not an answer.

the question is more important than the answer

  • "That's an opinion, not an answer"? Really. Where is everything that you're aware of situated? In consciousness maybe? Maybe the whole thing is mental. THINK about it.

  • Why d oyou say that? Because the question is safe? Probably.

    You'll never know I guess..

(and knowing is all of it)

  • @HypaSnipa the answer is safe it is out of out reach, doesn't make it any less worthwhile to grasp for it but ultimately futile

  • The answer isn't safe... thats the point. Its only safe when its out of reach by only allowing the question to be important.

...I'm saying.. if you look towards the answer and not the question, you end up with alot more choices to make for yourself and ultimately become responsible for your own life.

If you think thats more safe than idly pondering the question with no intent to answer it, you are sadly mistaken.

  • This idea is old news, if all is equal in this existence as it has to be to exist in this reality.

Thus all things have to experience nothing is void of what we feel or experience, to exist in this reality. Just because we say other wise is just our ego thinking we are the top of what ever we think we are.

As I say I am no different that other thing as every thing is no different to me.

  • Science should contemplate the idea, the concept of 'beyond mind' and just what does that mean? Really, what does that mean? Whatever you do...don't use your mind to find the answer, lol.

  • Science DOES contemplate the concept of 'beyond mind!' Crick's whole idea is to first solve the problem of perceptual consciousness and then move to thought (mind).

  • it really does puzzle me sometimes when i read comments such as those below. any reasonable conclusion of the scientific process will lead you to materialism. why do people like to posit the existence of such strange things? occams razor my dear - its just particles.

  • Materialism has always been an irrational response given the experience of consciousness. It is magical thinking.

  • Just because we dont as yet understand the process by which the seemingly random movement of particles can give rise to consciousness doesnt mean that it doesnt happen.

Having said that, I must admit that as a student of philosophy i am often plagued by consciousness as it does seem so very different from everything else.

I am open to the possibility of some kind of monism or some kind of cosmic spirit but as yet I'm still looking for the answers just like everyone else.

  • @faz182 but its not just particles is it, and scientific processes have lead us to the plank scale and where super strings vibrate and materialism completly breaks down, why humanity is stuck with philosiphy of science that was devised 300 years ago by totally scientifcially illiterate people (by our standards today) is beyond me. think about that materialisim can not be science it can not be a logical philosiphy of science if you can not prove it wrong its just NOT science

  • @faz182

    "it's just particles."

Reductionism already failed. Tell me, what are particles? You can give me a scientific description, but you can't fundamentally answer the question because we don't know. We know, to a certain extent, what an electron does under different circumstances, but what is it? Materialism can't account for the material, it is not a complete picture of reality, not even close. Sorry, but you will be completely refuted by science itself within a few decades.

  • What's so hard about thinking about humans like computers? Organic computers that are programmed by social interactions.

  • Searle has some things to say about that. He's fine with referring to humans as "organic computers", but he has a lot of arguments regarding the materialism that, to quote Dennett, suggest our "soul (consciousness) is made of of tiny robots". I find it hard to buy into Searle's arguments, but I'm still not completely persuaded by the materialistic view; perhaps that will change when I read more Philosophers from that side.

    Contd.

  • So, if you haven't already, read some Searle (I recommend "The Mystery of Consciousness), and hold on tight for the saying, "Philosophers kick up the dust, and then complain they can't see" is alive and well in Searle (lol). But in all seriousness, though a number of his arguments are rather weak, he has some very good ones in there.

    p.s.

I hope everyone else laughing at morrismesmo's panpsychism.

  • why laughing at people?? Is just because people may have different opinions?? Opinios ARE opinions. I respect yours, even if you're trying to have a smile in your face saying to others laugh at other people's opinion thought. Or perhaps you're just a 15 year old who has different opinion than other people telling others to laugh at other people's opinion!! I stand on my comment regardless if it's gonna make other people that has other opinions to have a laugh.

  • morrismesmo, A "15 year old...telling others to laugh at other people's opinion''? I sense a bit of projection is going on here. You may stand by your comment all you like, but if you plan to seriously study Philosophy, you have many things to learn. Also, I suggest you leave your rose colored shades at home.

  • i studied philosophy, that is not what i'm talking 'bout here. . I know my shit, man!! I'm talking 'bout indian teachings!! I'm not trying to create any bad weather here. I'm just saying that my opinion is regarded what I learned and experienced with Castaneda's books. you didn't really get what i'm talking 'bout here, sir. You're really doing much, but it sounds like you are aware of all there is to know. But you're entitled to have your opinion, thanx thoght by the answer.

  • The solution and truth is that the material is made of consciousness. Existence and consciousness are synonymous. Everything that exists is therefore a manifestation of consciousness, and is conscious by nature. When a system (such as the human mind) is capable of storing memories and performing comparative analysis, the self-awareness and understanding that we generally associate with consciousness is experienced.

  • You are so right! Where did you learn this? It is cutting-edge knowledge. Very few people seem to be able to accept it.

  • really? so are you saying that my shoes have an experience when i put my feet inside them? and if so, what would that feel like?

  • I agree. Physics has gotten to the point where it is vindicating things said by Plato and Pythagoras and other ancients: The reality of the universe is not matter or energy or space -- those are illusions, shadows cast by the actual reality which is information. Above information are the things studied by math and geometry. Above those, the things pertaining to thought, and mind, and virtue.

  • I believe so. I'm thinking that at the pinnacle of the hierarchy, the root, is a non-dualistic and formless consciousness, emptiness maybe, which is within everything. Imagination resides here. Next down is the dualistic division between active (do) and passive (experience), you could say will and perception, give and receive. Everything continues to hierarchically divide, through dimensions we don't yet know or understand, until you get to the dimensions and complexity that we do.

  • So essentially the driving force of change, and the reason for our existence, is imagination. Imagination works by creating distorted representations of what already exists. Since this adds new complexity, the process feeds back in a cascade of complexity.

I feel dirty talking about reality using words like these, but they are the closest approximations to the concepts I'm trying to convey. I hope to develop a mathematical representation some day, even if it requires a new mathematics.

  • yeh, like eugenics and dualism.

    what evidence do you have?

  • Carlos Castaneda learned from the toltec indian Don Juan Matus this precisely truth! Everything is Consciouness, therefore INFINITE! I used to have discussions with friends about that and I've never thought differently! It's great to have scietific assurance about it now, after reading all of his books, it's all there!!!!! IT'S ABOUT CONSCIOUSNESS!!!

  • annnnnnd yet everyone think's we're crazy lol, but the vibes are growing every day

  • LOL everything is Consciousness

  • how did you manage to post a 59 min. video???

  • @jayelowell Youtube partner program, look it up!

  • We are very much like biological computers.

  • Francis Crick rulez! (:

  • It's Doctor Goodfellow from Buck Rogers!!!
