  • I just saw this last night! It was phenomenal. Really funny and well acted! One thing, definitely NOT a show to bring kids to! Nevertheless it was hilarious and wonderful! :D I would see it again if I could.

  • i cant got to sleep unless i listen to it :D

  • Full show on my channel

  • As a mormon, i find this entire musical so freakin awesome

    loce it!

  • As a Mormon I find this song offensive! .....Just kidding, I'm not Mormon.

  • wel....france is the land of pastries and turtle necks :p

  • Japan: land of soy sauce and mothra. Love it

  • ORLANDOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

My favorite part of the whole show. When I first heard that, I nearly died laughing.

  • "Satan has a hold of France!"

    Yes, yes it does.

  • @MissNarcissism Who hasn't had a hold of France at one time or another? Just go in and ask, and they'll surrender it to you.

  • norway! land of gnomes! and trolls!

  • FRANCE, LAND OF PASTRIES AND TURTLE NECKS!!! LOL

  • this killed my boner..... >=(

  • hooooo-WAAAAHHH

    hheeeyyyy-YAAAHHHH

    SHHOOOO-WAAAHHHH

    ZA-DAP, WOW!!

  • A bit of literary license. (Nuns can't fly, either). About 3 months before the anticipated departure time, an application is submitted. Aboout a month later you recieve a mission call. (Montreal, Canada, French speaking was mine). You usually have the same companion for 2 to 6 months. (Not the same guy the whole time). English speaking missionaries are 3 weeks in the MTC. Foreign language missionaries spend about 2 months.

  • Hahaha the best last bight I was at texas thespian convention and a group of guys performed this for the TIES competion and we all got to watch it it was funny :)

  • @Crazy4life24 I am an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a former missionary. My son, also an active member, was part of that group. First place in the state of Texas. Going to Nationals in Omaha in June. By then, he probably will have his actual mission call. Pretty cool.

  • One of the best musicals I seen in a while

  • ....of latter day saints

  • The best musical I have ever seen.

And I have seen a LOT of musicals

  • Are you prople agruing on this video? Really? Dude I'm Mormon raised and Baptised into the Church, and I personally find this video to be hilarious! True, I am inactive at the Church but when asked I still say I am Mormon and I am still teased quite a lot at my school, so if there is a Mormon or anyone else offended by this musical, just please shut up. Thank up.

  • Sea World and Disney and put put golfing kick ass. Good on you, Mormon dude.

  • Is it just me or do I think of Mako Tsunami from Yugioh when hearing this.

  • Orlando!

  • for a musical about Mormons the boys sound very gay lmao...

  • @NathanJesseMcCarthy you didn't pretend hard enough. imagine that your brain is made of tiny boxes, then find the box that's gay and CRUSH IT, oh kayyy?

  • haha i know a mormon that won't even watch the lion king because its to scary at certian parts and shes 16

  • thumbs up if you will remember Elder Price's Name For The Rest Of Your Life!

  • Oh Japan! land of Soy Sauce! and Mothra!

  • I attempted to play THIS as background music during a lesson with the local Sister Missionaries, but they asked me to turn it off as the Broadway production was "very" offensive.

  • @EgaoNoGenki LOL turn it off.....like a light switch >:)

  • @EgaoNoGenki but there's nothing offensive in this song at all. the first three songs are the most innocent and wholesome parts of the whole production--no cursing and no blasphemy of any kind. maybe they are complaining about the show in general, which does contain some incredibly offensive language in places, but I can't imagine anyone objecting to anything in this song!

  • "LIKE THE LION KING!!!!!!"

  • ORLANDO!

  • Like lion king lls

  • I'm a complete lunatic but I still like this musical because I'm just as cheerful as the stereotypical representations of me in this play!

  • i saw two mormons on bikes the other day(: they looked so cute!

  • Andrew Rannells <3

  • does this sound like getting gay with kids from the south park episode where they go to the amazon rainforest?

  • I'm a northeast mormon. i'm not offended at all. I love this musical!

  • This is funny. But real missionaries know where they are gonna go before they go to the MTC.

  • @historyloverww2axis Do you know anything about history? If you did you would know the book of mormon is one of the funniest works of fiction ever written. I mean, precolumbian swords, coins, and horse drawn chariots? Lol!

  • OK, I'm a Mormon, and I'm fine with it. I think some things are ridicoulos about the church, such as stereotypes, and when you make fun of it like this, I'm fine with it because its a way to laugh at yourself. But I also think some of the songs and things from the musical really show people what were all about.

  • @ historyloverww2axis i understand how you are offended i felt that way with Jesus Christ Superstar, i think the idea is being able to laugh at life and yourself , no offense

  • I love reading idiot arguments on the internet. Basically, anyone who's offended by this musical is a serious pansy and needs to get the stick out of their ass.

  • @lydiaBETCH

lol this musical basically is satire of all mormonism. Have even seen it? Of course they are gonna be pissed lol

  • @fromstart2finish If you thought the intent of this musical was to be a satire of Mormonism, then the message must have gone way over your head...

  • @oloompop

well it definately seems like satire to me, after all it was written by the creators of south park. They pretty much make fun of everything.

  • @fromstart2finish Well it is satire, but it's so much more. There is a huge message behind all that happens in the show that applies to all faiths and not just Mormonism.

  • "oh boy like lion king!" LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @historyloverww2axis Actually, if they can take a joke, I don't think they would. You can't, apparently. It's not like people believe Mormons are idiots from this musical. We all know it's a joke.

  • @historyloverww2axis well apparently you havent actually gone down to see the show in person... because if you did then you would know that Matt and Trey tear apart every religion around the world... through the eyes of a group of Mormons.

  • @historyloverww2axis All comedies have stupid characters, to be funny...

  • @historyloverww2axis The funny part is, people understand that Mormons aren't idiots. The point of this musical is that it pokes fun at all sorts of stereotypes. They're trying to show that to everyone, everyone else's beliefs sounds a little insane and ridiculous. If that weren't so, everyone would believe the same thing! I actually believe that it's promoting religious tolerance. The world is full of religions and there are extremists in every one of them. This is a universal parody.

  • @historyloverww2axis it's not but that's the point. there are so many religious stereotypes it's ridiculous like jews being unattractive and nerdy, buddhists all being ridiculous hippies, and even athiests being super anti religious.

  • @historyloverww2axis I'm pretty sure the writers of this musical already beat you to that and nobody was offended.

  • @historyloverww2axis Dude! This is a PARODY! The ridiculous, over-the-stop stereotype is the point. NO ONE (and I don't mean just mormons) is this naive and silly in real life! :P LOL

  • @mesa176750 I'm sorry, and I'm sure you and your friend are quite fine people. However, I must disagree. A anyone can say they are gay, they can be gay, and then find a wonderful person of the opposite sex, and have a relationship. Thats all well and good. However, what you have said is not that. You have said people are not allowed same-sex relationships, and that they MUST change. I'm sorry if this is not what you said, but this is how I interpreted it. Therefore, it seems like morminism does

  • I'm leaving for four days of SeaWorld, Disney, and putt putt golfing tomorrow and, well, yeah. This song is the only thing on my mind right now.

  • satan has a hold of the 7 people who pushed "dislike"

  • I'm from Orlando

Everyone is confused by the "PutPut golfing" Part XD

We don't have all that much.

  • Personally I didn't find that as funny as I'd expected.

  • Nice Michael Jackson feet. Didn't like this song.

  • I pray I'm sent to my favourite place orlaanddo orlanddoo I looove you orlandooo seaaworld and disneeyy

  • @hobbitgirl1992 but what would you tell to another human being that tells you tha he believes in the Intergalactic Lord Xenu?

Or another one that says to you that he stacks countless teeth ,that he founds, under his pillow every night, so one day he can be rich?

:) mostly obviously take their religion the way you see yours, but what of those who take it seriously?

  • @hobbitgirl1992 I don't think Parker and Stone's intentions were to call anyone "delusional". They've admitted they LOVE the Mormon people. They're just showing that every religion has flaws and that mission trips to third world countries don't make sense because the lessons from the bible (or book of Mormon) don't translate well in those places.

  • Like Lion King!

  • These songs are so goddamn catchy

  • @asianpriss actually it's based on many facts, they're just so obvious, that I didn't think I had to state them. First of mormons think that god "changed his mind" on black people in 1978 which is completely insane. Also they are homophobic, do not acknowledge almost anything proven by science cuz they think it threatens their religion and they also believe that whole joseph smith stuff, which is pretty obvious bullshit.

  • dooksucks4ever They don't honestly think that God changed his mind about black people, that's how the writers phrased it because it was funny, the actual fact is 1987 was the year black people could gain priesthood. Many people in the world are homophobic and mormonism is not the only religion that thinks being gay is a sin. Also they do happen to acknowledge things that are proven by science unless you are just talking about Evolution in which case everyone who's christian doesn't believe that,

  • @asianpriss I know. I never said ONLY mormons are crazy... because I think pretty much all religions are crazy and illogical.

  • @asianpriss Mormons do not have an official stand on evolution, half believe it half don't. Mormonism itself does not state that "being gay" is a sin, only that "having homosexual relationships" is a sin. (Stated in the bible, and is a part of their newer revelation and core doctrines about marriage) All that is not any kind of attack, it's just clearing up some stuff. I go to BYU I and they teach Evolution. I personally believe it myself as well. Mormons love Science I believe. Food for thought

  • @mesa176750 Is it possible to "be gay" and not "have a homosexual relationship"? Meaning, it's cool to have sex with a member of the same sex, just not have a committed relationship with that same person, correct? Lmao, that's the same kind of contradictory nonsense that confuses Mormon kids like you. I love the fact the majority of you are very fine people, with great families and solid upbringings... due, in part, to the LDS church. But, largely, your views on homosexuality are skewed, sorry!

  • @stinsley8arms No, it states that we can't marry people that are of the same gender. And ANY sex outside of marriage is forbidden. The attraction itself is not a sin. You aren't born a vile sinner just because you are born gay in our church. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying it's an easy life for people that ARE gay in our church... but we don't shun or disrespect them. One of my friends said he was gay through all of high school. But he met a girl that was perfect. Isn't that what matters?

  • Its sad that people are getting all worked up over this. Its a play, its not meant to get people mad, its made to entertain. So shut up and just enjoy it.

  • Is it just me or does the guy that speaks at 1:52 through 1:55 sound like Pinky?

  • The guy who played Price was Princeton in Avenue Q... I guess he found his purpose!

  • @OsoGordozon ...In what production?

  • @OsoGordozon He also played Mako Tsunami in Pokemon apparently. This guy is freakin' famous

  • Perhaps the best song ever to hit Broadway.

  • "But I pray I'm sent to my favorite place: Orlando!"

*falls out of her chair laughing* Sorry, I've spent my entire life trying to get OUT OF Florida. It still boggles my mind that people want to come here.

  • @Kaizykat Why? It it because of this song: "Itttt's a smmalllll wwwooorrlldd affffter all. IT's a small world after all! It's a small world after all!"?

  • @Kaizykat

    awesome :D

  • @Kaizykat How'd you feel about Disney World and the other attractions there then?

  • @Kaizykat Aww, I like it! But, then again I've learned I don't like snow, am a Disney freak, and think Orlando is beutiful so...

  • @Kaizykat Keep in mind, this character has spent his whole life in Salt Lake City.

  • @T14309 I agree totally... i mean this is by the same people who made south park... it isnt meant to be taken seriously...

  • The central theme of 'The Book of Mormon' is that all religion is stupid. And pointless. And man-made. I LOVE THIS MUSICAL!!!!!!!!!! Matt and Trey Parker restore my FAITH in human intelligence and creative ability.

  • @a2ndopinion333 ERm...the theme isn't actually that. The idea of the musical isn't to offend after all - Trey and Matt didn't set out to piss people off

  • @a2ndopinion333 Boy, did you miss the mark. The point is that even though religion may seem "stupid and pointless", it can still work to improve lives... no matter how silly the doctrines may seem to the non-believers. You didn't see (or understand) the SouthPark episode dealing with atheism. Religion seems to work for people, and Mormonism more than most.

  • um the melodies in the show are SO GENERIC it's unreal. sorry these are not songs these are musical vignettes?

  • @philipsmog they are deliberately referencing great musicals of the past. that's part of the fun.

  • @eyescandeceive I LOVE THAT FACT SO MUCH! Is there one song in particular for this one or for "Hello"?

  • how come there's no women missionaries?

  • @larkfeathers there are tons of women missionaries ive met a few of them just because youve never seen them dosent mean they dont exisist

  • @k00patr00pa1 yes, i know women missionaries exist, i was asking why there were no girl missionaries in the play

  • lol. I'm listening to this in the land of pastries and turtlenecks

  • Learning the harmonies just by ear

    #winning

  • I actually love the music from 2:45-3:00.

  • ORLANDOOOOO

  • the point of this seems to be that religion's original intention wasn't to convey truth but to help people going through a tough time.

  • ...of latter day saints.

  • Mothra dude

  • Comment removed

  • I am mormon and love this, however, never think the shit in the play is 100% mormon doctrine.

  • @Risefotruth You don't sound very mormon swearing on YouTube... but i do agree with you but disagree with @T14309 saying that "...as people take religious teaching metaphorically and not literally" i realize he is quoting someone else but if no one were to take religion seriously then there would be no point religion at all.

Mormons as a whole will be split about liking this because of individual standards, unless the church says something specific you can bet there will be a lot of fans.

  • Like Lion King!

    Yes, just like Lion King.

  • Orlando...!

  • Africa, oh boy, like the lion king! lmfao

  • As a Christian, I actually expected to be offended. I was surprised. If the Mormons were to make their own musical about being Mormon, they could keep much of the soundtrack. I do wonder how many atheists are seeking proof of God. If you only point and laugh at the satire of a religion, that is not much of a selling point for any of them. I think we should all at least marvel at the mysteries of the universe and see the artistry behind it, and not just assume it was all an accident.

  • @stimmer64 so I herd u leik Christopher Hitchens.

  • @stimmer64 Nobody is "assuming" that it was an accident, that's not what atheists believe. And you're quite pessimistic about atheists, we can still look at the universe and be amazed. Instead of marvelling at mysteries, an atheist wants to understand them and learn about the universe. We think the universe, life, the cosmos, existence, evolution and understanding IS beautiful - we simply see beauty in a different way, and that isn't a bad thing :D

  • 'coz god loves mormons and her wants more... :)

  • Oh, boy! Japan! Land of sushi and Mothra!

  • @EricAKATheBelgianGuy

    'soy sauce' lol

  • @OurlostIsland Oops.

  • When I posted this on my facebook, my Mormon friend said I should take it down as it was offensive.

I told him to shut up and actually listen to the lyrics.

  • @austinthebookworm5 lol, this shit IS offensive, dont try and make yourself feel better or justify reasons for enjoying it. Granted it is a fantastic musical performance and is deserving of the awards it won, but you cant deny it has a condescending overtone to it regarding Mormonism, and the way they act. you can either like it and support it the way it is, or hate it, but dont try and cover up what is really goin' on.

  • @kokabiel2one

I saw it, mate, and if by 'condescending overtone' you mean 'explain the history of Mormonism', then I guess you're right. The audience laughed because many think Mormonism is ludicrous, not because they mocked the religion.

The funniest jokes in the musical were the parts completely unrelated to the musical, like when Cunningham can't pronounce Nabulungi's name, calling her Neosporin and stuff.

If it was incredibly offensive, why didn't the church's official statement say so?

  • @austinthebookworm5 hahaha, you shouldn't be so rude to your friend. I am a mormon, and I'm not offended by this.

  • @austinthebookworm5 Really? My Mormon friend was the one who introduced this to me. XD

  • @austinthebookworm5 OMG! How did he respond?

I may be an LDS member (who's somewhat weak in that church) and I listen to the songs the Elders sing, just not the ones the Ugandans sing. (They're mentally polluting.)

  • @EgaoNoGenki

The Ugandans have been given the short stick of... existence. Their lives really do suck in so many ways, and blaming god seems very reasonable.

  • @austinthebookworm5 That's kind of funny, the person who got me into the is a Mormon. I guess it varies from person to person, but all of the Mormons I know are pretty chill about the whole thing. A lot of them actually love it. Maybe the Mormons that I know can laugh at themselves...

  • @emilyh753

yeah I was just joking around with my friend, but yeah... if you find it offensive, turn it off! like a light switch!! jks

  • @austinthebookworm5 Mormans use facebook? lol

  • @malibu64

    ikr?

  • @malibu64 yeah, and they even buy ipods at the apple store.

  • @austinthebookworm5 Which is funny, because I posted Hasa Diga Eebowai on mine and a bunch of my mormon friends were all like "OMG YOU LIKE BOOK OF MORMON WOOO ME TOO WOO"

  • Comment removed

  • @zeshakag

    awesome :D

  • 7 poeple don't like lion king

  • @lovemonkeycr8zy Or putt-putt golfing.

  • i didnt notice how much putt-putt golfing was in orlando till this song lol

  • Really I Dont See How This Is Making Fun Of Us Mormons?

  • @poptropicafashion it's a satire

  • but california has seaworld, and disney, and putt-putt golfing too...

  • Comment removed

  • Except the atheists are right, as far as anyone has been able to tell. :P

  • "Uganda? That's in Africa....Like Lion King!?" :)

  • The beginning of this musical makes me chuckle b/c when you enter the MTC (missionary training center), you already know where you're going. You get a letter telling you long before you even enter the MTC b/c you need to buy appropriate clothes and so forth before you head to that location. You don't get your companion until you reach the mission (and you don't have the same companion for the whole mission either. I had 13 different ones in the 18 months I served). This really is a funny show!

  • i wanted to go on my mission to uganda -_-

  • If you really want to see an awesome Mormon Musical, Check out Saturday's Warrior. that's the real Shit.

  • is it just me or does the end sound like "Little Shop of Horrors" theme?

  • @lsilah a lot of these songs were "stolen" from other musicals. The one I caught right away was I Believe, which sounds just like Confidence from The Sound of Music. But creativity is just successfully hiding your sources!

  • @borgqueen45 I wouldn't say the music was stolen, any more than 'Wicked' steals from 'The Wizard of Oz'. Pretty damn sure you're SUPPOSED to recognise the references. Half the reason that the South Park movie's songs were so awesome was because you could instantly see what songs they were riffing on, and that added an extra layer of hilarity & commentary to the movie. (Satan's "Up There" is blatantly a parody of Ariel's "Part of your world" from Disney's 'The Little Mermaid', for example.)

  • ‎"The central theme of 'The Book of Mormon' is that many religious stories are silly."The play's message boils down to this: "Religion itself can do enormous good as long as people take religious teaching metaphorically and not literally." ~ David Brooks (The New York Times)... yall haters needs to relax.

  • @T14309 Brigham Young said people who mixed interracially should be put to death. He was a major religious leader for Mormans. How exactly do you take that metaphorically?

  • @dooksucks4ever I feel sorry for you. You judge an entire religion by what one man said hundreds of years ago. I could care less what Brigham Young said. I care more of how Mormons I meet act, and I don't happen to know any racist Mormons

  • @Disneythievesrock Wow. Are you kidding me?! Brigham Young was a racist. Mormans even STILL have a university cal;ed Brigham Young University, named after him. If going to a university named after a racist and following many of his teachings isn't racist, I don't know what is. That would be like me saying, "oh, it's ok to go somewhere called nigger university because people aren't racist anymore." That would be fucking rediculous. Not to mention, I'm not just judging their religion by that.

  • @dooksucks4ever So? George Washington lived on a plantation which "employed" hundreds of black African slaves. Yet 4 million people live in Washington D.C. And around 200 million in the US, which arguably he single-handedly created.

And relax, its just a musical.

  • @mmrdlegnd Well see the thing about that is, George Washington wasn't fucking crazy... mormons are.

  • @dooksucks4ever just to join in on this discussion... your only defense to what @mmrdlegnd said was an opinion based on absolutely no fact, so I'd say you lose this one, dear.

  • I'm a Latter Day Saint and I think this is hilarious. I don't understand why people take offense to it I just wish it had come out sooner! It wasn't made of offend the members of my religion and people need to realize that. Thank you for posting this!!

  • Hi Guys!

We started a new musical called, "Sexting: The Musical." If you like this musical, you should check out ours! Please comment! Thanks!

    <3 sextingthemusical

  • when I first heard this and he said "Uganda?!" I was expecting him to be like "U-ganda-be-kidding-me!?!"

  • Hey I'm Mormon and I love this music! True, I dont know much about the musical, I just saw some stuff online and during the Tony's, but if it didn't cuss so much I'd see it. I believe you have to be able to make fun of yourself. Heck, we even have movies that do that. The RM, the Single's Ward. So, people should just chill and laugh. I know I am. Best line in the show- I believe that in 1978 God changed his mind about black people! -And yes I am black. :)

  • Uganda!!! If the Mormons believe that the U.S.A. is the chosen location of everything Christian. Can you imagine telling somebody about how America is the chosen place and their country is manure. Great way to convert people. Maybe in 2026, the Big Giant Head will tell them that homosexuality is the chosen sexual preference. Whatever it takes to increase the population of potential converts.

  • We're the soldiers OF the army OF the Church...OF jesus christ OF latter day saints

  • @balletluv100 most of our "weird" aspects come from the bible. Like baptisms for the dead is in the bible. And something can still be accurate but still mocking.
