The problem with ASIMO is that it really can't DO much. It's an impressive study in how to make a machine that can move like a human, sure. I'll give Honda that much. The thing is, it can't really do anything aside from preprogrammed movements. It can't adapt, it can't figure things out.... as a domestic servant robot it's a complete flop. If Honda had spent less time and money making it walk like a human they might be where Toyota is now with a working domestic prototype.

Only his lower half is autonomous. The original prototype was only a set of legs and then from the waist up was a counter weight for balance. The newer version from what I have read, is same lower half autonomous and upper half is robotic presence or someone using a PC behind the scenes to operate the upper half. Although the source is a few years old...maybe they've made serious advances in the upper portion.
