Don't listen to this guy you don't pre-load (push down) as you hit the up ramp. You should pre-load as you come up to the base of the up ramp. Pre-loading while hitting the up ramp will 'squash' the ramp so you don't get as high and get more distance. This is a different technique that allows you to hit the ramps faster than usual used a lot in downhill races. Where the riders had alot of speed that they try to keep up instead of slowing down for a jump and then having to gain speed again.
Im looking for a vid on "Camel Back jumps with a lip kick where you have to lean forward not this but this is cool if your into jumping curbs or what ever LOL
@IrideLastMtb They are likeBig Table Top jumps with a gap in the middle you have to clear .Actually i figured it out scince i posted this .You have to hit the face full speed keep low and keep your arms a liittle stiff to muscle the nose down.By the time you clear the top and are over the landing, you land on the transition ,w/o being in Wheelie position . if you want to do a little jump and land on top, you can land rear wheel 1st.if you land rear 1st on the otherside of a table U will DIE
@IrideLastMtb Oh that's old school 4 "Kicker Jumps with a gap in the middle" A table top with a chunk taken out of the middle they used to put em on BMX tracks ,also i see em in down hill
Not really true about landing wheels. When jumping, you should always land front wheel first to regain control and back wheel should land at the same spot as the front. Landing both at an angle will make crash for sure as you point bike in a different direction then the mass is. Even the rider in the video lands front first if you look carefully.
@Zhiloreznik This video is tailored for beginners and if you told a beginner to land front wheel first and they erred on the side of too much front, there would be a lot of injured beginners. Learning to try and get both at the same time first will keep a beginner out of trouble and once they've mastered safely landing they can move on to the nuances of the front wheel landing a split second before the rear.
@Zhiloreznik Not true at all. The rider in the video may land front wheel first but he hasn't got the correct technique for jumping really. Maybe when jumping large, steep lipped dirt jumps riders will have to dip the front of the bike in to land smoother but; when it comes to cross country and downhill landing both wheels or back wheel first make the landing smoother and A LOT safer especially when the rider is a beginner.
@AHCinematography As it comes to techniques there are different opinions on how to ride. About pre-loading it really depends on what you want to achieve. You can "blow off" energy to go as straight as possible to be fast as you describe it or to get some height. Landing front first and both wheels at the same spot is really hard to learn but is most effective when you master. For beginners is safer to land back first. Or if drop is huge. But opinions differ.
@Zhiloreznik Yes there are different opinions and riding styles but no matter what your riding style there is still a right way and a wrong way. In most cases landing front wheel first is more dangerous and less effective when 'pumping' into the landings to gain speed.

If you're hitting a jump with a flat landing then you should make sure both tires land at the same time.

@Zhiloreznik Wheels should generally hit the ground at the same time for a smoother landing, and it is easier to control that way

@danielpaulrules Come to think that most beginners fall because the get thrown over the handlebars. You have proved the argument, case closed!
