Nice to hear the current generation performing music of the 40's. Tori does a real nice job here. This arrangement sounds strikingly similar to the definitive version of "You Belong to Me" recorded in 1952 by Jo Stafford.
I heard the verson of Carla Bruni, both are amazing but I love the spontaneousness of Carla more. btw, who is the 1st person singing this mater piece evryone?
@tranphuong12288 The original version of the song was recorded by Sue Thompson .... wikipedia docet ;-) but I prefer Tori, only because I don't like Carlabruni ;-)
it's not like I don't respect it. it's your opinion because it doesn't fit mine, I actually couldn't care less about it. But when I say "I love chocolate" to whoever wants to hear it (in a chocolate trade fair, for instance), and then you go "chocolate is sh*t" and you say that DIRECTLY to me. That's just annoying, and rude. Period.
i find jason wade's version gay and cheeszy but i had to admit i once liked his version....but now i somehow realized,,its for sissies...no offense but thats just my opinion....i find it hard if this is tori....really?gorgeous.....
Many people have covered this song recently, with many different styles.
This version does the song justice, in it's ability to take you to 1945, a smoke filled dance hall, where soldiers were home safe, love was love, hatred had been defeated, and the United States was just that, United. A time when the American Dream was alive and well.
You remember the life magazine photo of the sailor kissing his girl. That feel!
This was in a mainstream H'wood movie, its not going to be strange little girls material, what did you expect? I'd love to hear her rework these "standard" songs on her own SLG style! Tori's presence, message, are leagues beyond, she is one of a kind!!
This could have easily been her own artistic direction, she most likely listened to the "closer to original" Jo stafford rendition of this song (look it up its on youtube). Then you can clearly see Tori's inspiration for this piece. She was clearly trying to sound "old fashioned".
I think some people commenting need to loose their their access to this site! For crying out loud, grow up and stop being offensive. There's childlike and childish.
great cover with that 50's sound, but i like dylan's acoustic version best, his voice is generous and profound and rumbles gently upon the essence of our experience as human beings
@savconsult I concur. However I it is nice to see another generation show respect to the music of their forfathers (mothers). The new generation also has a lot of music that will stand the test of time..........unfortunatly it does not get much airplay, you need to search for it.
@savconsult I think you're wrong critizing the comment cause the Tori Voice here sound very 40's alike Peggy Lee. The fact of the song is from the 50's is irrelevant.
Tori Amos, Dean Martin, The Duprees, Patsy Cline, Jo Stafford: they're all great! Maybe it's the song? As talented as all these artists are, maybe the real greatness is in the song.
i remember i nearly screamed in the cinema when I saw tori come on screen. i love this film so much but it have tori is like have sprinkles, its a wonderful film.
it is just a great movie...and just so cool to have Tori up in that dress at that wedding...you just know that you can see that character in the back drinking and smoking with the staff later or hopping in the limo secretly with some senator...;)
@sugminfeta if you don't like it,why do you comment?and if you knew that I don't agree with your opinion on which is the best version, why in the world did you tag me on your comment?that's just stupid, and extremely annoying. You won't see any comment of mine on carla bruni's video saying how boring I find it,and that's because I respect other people's tastes and opinions. At least next time, don't make your comment an answer to mine. It's like you wanted to open a discussion over the sex of angels.
