  • Nice to hear the current generation performing music of the 40's. Tori does a real nice job here. This arrangement sounds strikingly similar to the definitive version of "You Belong to Me" recorded in 1952 by Jo Stafford.

  • RESPOND

  • I don't think I have ever heard a version of this song that I didn't like. I will keep searching.

  • Oh my god. She's fantastic. So glad I stumbled upon this. Definitely gonna check out her other work.

  • I remember watching this movie and at the party scene, I was so shocked seeing Her performing and me: oh, #$#"#"%$...........

  • I heard the verson of Carla Bruni, both are amazing but I love the spontaneousness of Carla more. btw, who is the 1st person singing this mater piece evryone?

  • @tranphuong12288 The original version of the song was recorded by Sue Thompson .... wikipedia docet ;-) but I prefer Tori, only because I don't like Carlabruni ;-)

  • @tranphuong12288 The most famous "old" version of this song is sung by Patsy Cline

  • the music is very similar like the old version from Jo Stafford, but Tori's voice is very 40s :D

  • Ain't this beautiful?

  • Out of all the versions of this song (and there have been MANY), this is my favorite.

  • thanks realy realy tanks...............

  • Love love love this song, the movie was excellent.

  • Beleza Pura

  • it's not like I don't respect it. it's your opinion because it doesn't fit mine, I actually couldn't care less about it. But when I say "I love chocolate" to whoever wants to hear it (in a chocolate trade fair, for instance), and then you go "chocolate is sh*t" and you say that DIRECTLY to me. That's just annoying, and rude. Period.

  • if you don't like what I type why comment?

It sounds like you only respect other people's taste and opinions if you see them fit.

  • Her voice is love...

  • i find jason wade's version gay and cheeszy but i had to admit i once liked his version....but now i somehow realized,,its for sissies...no offense but thats just my opinion....i find it hard if this is tori....really?gorgeous.....

  • gosh Tori sounds really different!! this is what she got started doing, right? old covers? Can't beat her voice, however.

  • wow, my girl can really do the 40's.

  • damn!!! her voice is GOLD!!!

  • This is one of my favorite old songs. Tori did a fabulous job. She has such a rich and soulful voice. it was a treat listening to this.

  • Why is she singing through gritted teeth though?

  • Many people have covered this song recently, with many different styles.

This version does the song justice, in it's ability to take you to 1945, a smoke filled dance hall, where soldiers were home safe, love was love, hatred had been defeated, and the United States was just that, United. A time when the American Dream was alive and well.

You remember the life magazine photo of the sailor kissing his girl. That feel!

  • lifehouse version is best :D

  • This was in a mainstream H'wood movie, its not going to be strange little girls material, what did you expect? I'd love to hear her rework these "standard" songs on her own SLG style! Tori's presence, message, are leagues beyond, she is one of a kind!!

  • Agree with Froggy19510 Jo Stafford did do it much better

  • Wow, Tori sounds so different here.

  • Sounds like all the other You Belong To Me versions - except Kate Rusby's, whose stands far apart from the crowd.

  • try the misfits version

  • I love Tori's sultry voice on this song, it really makes the song complete!

  • Wow, this song was written almost 60 years ago!!

  • I want to know why Tori Amos is singing a song about a HORSE-TOOTHED JACKASS! MACK-HINE!!!

  • fla fla flohi!

  • Great orchestration!

  • They made Tori articulate every word! She sounds quite different.

  • This could have easily been her own artistic direction, she most likely listened to the "closer to original" Jo stafford rendition of this song (look it up its on youtube). Then you can clearly see Tori's inspiration for this piece. She was clearly trying to sound "old fashioned".

  • Have you ever listened to her old glam rock stuff? Check out the group "Y Kant Tori Read".

  • I think some people commenting need to loose their their access to this site! For crying out loud, grow up and stop being offensive. There's childlike and childish.

  • flaflaflunkie

  • BEst sounding version is by The Duprees ('60's) (I think original recording was by Jo Stafford in the arly '50's)

  • Why don't you take another hairbrush in your ass!

  • MAMA-MONKEY!! Howard rules

  • He works for the pfrick Howard Stern

  • Fla Fla Fla Flaa Flaa Floo-eyyyy

  • Ma-ma-monkey!

  • ta ta toothey

  • BA BA BABA BOOOEYYYY

  • fla fla flooey! ra ra retard!

  • Right now, my professional life is, like, at a 9 but my personal life is, like, at a 2.

  • Who's Highpitch?

  • Hey, even Tori Amos is a fan! But I think that the Natural Born Killers version is much better.

  • BA BA BOOEY! Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • "Lets fuccck some whhhoores!" Tootsies yyyeaaahhh

  • hello hello

  • Nice first pitch Gary!!

  • baba booey HAHA

  • Haha, baba booey! I love reducing this entire song to nothing but the baba booey part

  • BABA BOOEY BABA BOOEY BABA BOOEY

  • Cant wait for the follow-up to this great hit which will be

    Fa fa flo hie

  • Oh man. This has to be the funniest song ever! Baba booey

  • Ba ba bo ba ba booie!!!

    Baba booey!!

  • great cover with that 50's sound, but i like dylan's acoustic version best, his voice is generous and profound and rumbles gently upon the essence of our experience as human beings

  • when I saw Tori in the movie could not believe it looked good beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "...just remember darlin' all the while you belong to me..........". Wonderful words.

  • Very nice version.............

  • Cinque stelle***** Loamo!!!***:):):) Tutta bella song:):):) Numero uno video!!! "Chin Chin" Chente Anni Salute Ciao:):):)

  • I grew up on the Jo Stafford version but this great.

  • I'd like to hear Tori do Macarthur Park by Jimmy Webb.

  • Great cover! This shows a side of Tori I would like to see more of!!

  • I think Jo made this famous in 52 not the 40's... God give us back our culture and all those who are now gone...real music for real people..

  • Amen to that. There are so many people in the music industry these days with little to zero ability. Marketing appeal has replaced musical talent.

  • @savconsult I concur. However I it is nice to see another generation show respect to the music of their forfathers (mothers). The new generation also has a lot of music that will stand the test of time..........unfortunatly it does not get much airplay, you need to search for it.

  • @savconsult I think you're wrong critizing the comment cause the Tori Voice here sound very 40's alike Peggy Lee. The fact of the song is from the 50's is irrelevant.

  • Tori Amos, Dean Martin, The Duprees, Patsy Cline, Jo Stafford: they're all great! Maybe it's the song? As talented as all these artists are, maybe the real greatness is in the song.

  • Jason Wade's is my favorite version, I just love his smoky/smooth voice on that song.

  • Michael Buble sings it good too.

  • and kate rusby. can't forget her ^.^

  • tori does a really good 40's voice

  • That's right...it reminds me a lot of the '40s.

  • chilton price wrote it about ww2...

  • Yeah, I know. it's amazing. Not many people can emulate the voice of that time.

  • beutiful, lovely, all i gotta say.

  • i remember i nearly screamed in the cinema when I saw tori come on screen. i love this film so much but it have tori is like have sprinkles, its a wonderful film.

  • I had about the same reaction when I saw her appear on the screen! She is the Greatest!

  • i love this song i think jo staffords version is better though,

and the movie is one of my favourites.

    thanks for posting

  • it is just a great movie...and just so cool to have Tori up in that dress at that wedding...you just know that you can see that character in the back drinking and smoking with the staff later or hopping in the limo secretly with some senator...;)

  • How appropriate to have Tori sing this in Mona Lisa Smile! How completely, perfectly appropriate...

  • Best version. I love Tori Amos <3

  • she is it!!

its amazing, but she is it!

    wandlungsfähig

  • Is this really Tori??? It really doesn't sound like her...

  • Yup its tori , shes in the actual movie.

  • OK listening to it twice I can hear it is her. :) Cheers.

  • @over1000rainbows

How to butcher one of the greatest songs ever

  • @sugminfeta if you don't like it,why do you comment?and if you knew that I don't agree with your opinion on which is the best version, why in the world did you tag me on your comment?that's just stupid, and extremely annoying. You won't see any comment of mine on carla bruni's video saying how boring I find it,and that's because I respect other people's tastes and opinions. At least next time, don't make your comment an answer to mine. It's like you wanted to open a discussion over the sex of angels.
