Good video, good teaching, yet the music is too predominant, sorry. Good thoughts for people being interested in spreading the Good News of salvation. For others it might be hard to perceive that, yes, Jesus managed perception.
it's all about loving people. I've visited 'slick' mega churches... and the churches have grown so rapidly following a formula...but you have to look at their fruit. Is it good quality fruit, or just the hot spot in town, to connect for business relationships & to be seen?
Unbelievable! Marketing a church like a business. Did Jesus have a building for people to look at? Did he "manage perception?" Did He care about the perception of the people He was trying to reach??? He was homeless. He washed feet. He hung out with tax collectors. I don't think he cared a whole lot about others perception. But, on the other hand, who would come as an angel of light? Who would make things look so inviting??
Thanks Aimee, He actually did care about managing perception. Over 20 times in the new testament you will read words like "Jesus perceived their thoughts and said..." i.e. Luke 5:22. He managed perception. When He raised Lazarus, He prayed out loud just to manage perception. "Father, you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me. John 11. You are right that is is not about buildings. It is about everything we do.
@beyondrelevance If you look closely at the context in which the word "perception" is used in Luke 5:22 it is evident that Jesus is the one "perceiving." If you use scripture to interpret scripture, you will find that what that passage is saying is that Jesus "knew" their hearts. (John 2:25) As for John 11, it is one of the numerous times Jesus spoke w/the Father. He was proving that He is the Christ. He was not trying to make himself more appealing to the world. Context is very important.
Great stuff! This is something we're working hard on in our congregation (and it is hard work) - knowing the people who we're called to connect with, and "marketing" in attractive ways to them.

Amen. This is great! I had never really thought of connecting cultural relevance to marketing.

This is great, I'm loving all the beyond relevance stuff...if only my church was actually reaching out and evangelizing.
I would be really interested to know how church marketing can be done from the pews...
