  • Luv that funky, uptempo rhythm, as well as the cool, refreshing melody and visuals. I luv all the bluish hues. Made me wanna jump up from my desk and boogie right here at work! And that ending chord just brings it on home!

    Wooo!

  • This is the one they should have kept until the end!

  • It's kinda ridiculous, because even if they replaced soaps with game shows, they would still be losing money and nobody would be watching it anyway... so why not continue airing GL? if not they should just shut down CBS daytime completely

  • I liked it better when it actually looked like a soap opera set, not when they changed it to look like a "home video." That was just plan dumb I think, I stopped watching it when they went to home video type recording.

  • this was my favorite opening. i miss guiding light

  • Why they got rid of this opening is beyond me....sadly the show went down hill once they got rid of it then killed of Tammy a few months later. =[

  • wow that theme music sticks in the head

  • When they said a poem to begin it, There is a - whatever, they always ended with that same music here. I agree with Creekside 04. That everybody gets low, everybody gets high one was so stupid. I STILL miss Guiding Light.

  • this was right before GL went into the crapper for good. once the show killed off gus and tammy, that was it. the show never fully recovered. oh, if only the great pam long or millie taggert were still writing, the show might have been saved. damn ellen wheeler!

  • i always loved this theme.

  • Somebody at GL must of not heard never use words in your opening theme song on a daytime drama. It gets old!!! B/c 5x a week your audience is going to hear this and sooner or later.. your eyes start to roll in your head.

  • So refreshing. This theme and visuals had more of a soap opera feel...Makes miss GL all the more.

  • The visuals were good but the theme song was terrible. The 90's theme was the best and lasted for nearly twenty years (80's- 90's)

  • My favourite opening from GL ever.

  • Hands down the best opening any soap has created in the past 20 years. I agree, too bad the show couldn't survive.

  • If only the show had been as dynamic and exciting as this, the best opening sequence of any soap for a very long time, it would still be around.

  • Love it! What an epic opening! :D

  • i was digging some information about this soap, it first aired in radio in 1937, and in 1952 it was brought to tv. this soap lasted 72 years, but on sep 18, 2009 it came to its end due to low retting. the longest soap opera in history has come to its end. we will miss you 'guiding light'

  • this was the first to the last

  • The last great GL opening....

  • This was the best GL opening since the mid-70s "sunlight thru the leaves" opening.

  • @mthivier Isn't it, though? I tell ya! This one, Ritournelle - the one you describe in your comment, and La Lamiere (I hope I spelled that right) are equally my favorite three -- for both theme and visuals.

  • @Creekside04

    So true.

  • @Creekside04 Accually the "Only Love Can Save the World" was a great opening. It was the best GL logo.

  • @Creekside04 I agree with you 100 percent, here. This was the last of the last, unfortunately.

  • The actual theme was used during the duration of the 70th anniversary opening right?

  • During the 70th anniversary year (2007), they switched to that stupid, annoying "helping hands" one.

  • This was GL's last great opening. Sigh.

  • third to the last great opening IMO

  • Now this is an opener, have no clue what they was thinking with the new one

  • I love this theme and this version that starts with Reva and ends with Jonathan was great...was so mad they got rid of it...the one they have now is awful

  • This one is my absolute favorite intro and song. This song makes me reminisce of better days at the Light. RIP, My dear Light.

  • This is surprisingly decent.

  • I just thought of something: A remixed version of the current and 2005 theme of GL. Nice idea, right?

  • They show way 2 much Tom Pelphrey in this opening

  • I miss Tammy and Jonathan!

  • Me too

  • I don't understand this era of P&G dumping the lighthouse and taking ATWT's globe out of space. This reminds me of Another World's last opening. An MTV ripoff with no identity.

  • Yeah, GL with that opening back in 2002, and getting rid of some prominent characters, like Ross, Danny, Michelle, etc. The ATWT globe opening was my favorite and the new one should be taken down right away, cause the change will bring new viewers to GL and ATWT.

  • they should have kept this opening longer. The one they had after that was terrible until they got the one with everyone holding hands. But even the holding hands I didn't like as much as this.

  • I liked this intro, this is when the show still resembled a soap opera, and not this whole "cinema verite" style that Executive producer Ellen Wheeler loves. And don't get me started on that whole "love will save the world" intro. There is NO love in Springfield, I mean Peapack.

  • this was my favorite too along with the 1984 opening.

  • I hate the new intro to. i like this one and the one before this one.

  • This is the best music, not the crap they have now.

  • Can anyone tell me when Jonathan is grabbing Tammy and there was a fire it looks like what was happening?

  • They were making out in Sandy's house and I forget exactly how but the place burnt down while they were there.

  • I think Lizzie saw them and lit the place on fire, not sure if that's what happened or even if it was Sandy himself.

  • yes it was Jonathan.

  • i love the music! i would only watch it cuz of the music! but then they changed the theme and now i hate it

  • I love Jonathan at the end too!! This was a nice beginning!

  • i love the music and stuff in this one :DD

  • I always preferred this one over the other one, because I love how Johnathon is sitting on the roof at the very end, and I love how the music is there.

  • This is the opening I like with Josh and Reva in it. Good job.

  • Thank you! That opening was not so often to see. 5 stars
