The thing about this song is that it doesnt choose sides, indeed, it was incredibly horrible for both sides. allied or axis, they both had to face the same horrors of the battlefield. So this song could be sung for Canadians, Americans, French, British, German, anyone who participated in it had to do the same exact thing:

My Grandfather died in Stalingrad, right in the day in which I was born, 32 years later. I'm only knowing him from pictures, wearing military clothes (Romanian). I have to say that this Maiden's song is one of the greatest anti-war songs ever made. All the militaristic dickheads should stick their wars right into the ass. War is so fucked up, my father fought in Vietnam. and he never talked about the war. One time my mom made some rice and he freaked out and grabed the bowl of rice and slamed it against the wall, almost killed my mom a couple of times in his sleep, War is so fucked up, it hurts so many people and destroys everyone's sanity, this song and video may not be about vietnam but listening to this kick ass iron maiden song along with this video makes me think about the pain that soldiers go through

Today the last Trench War survivor*, the Englishman Harry Patch, is dead (111 years old). He fought during the Battle of Paschendale.

* There is still 3 Great War survivors : a British sailor, an American ambulance driver and a Canadian who was still training when war ended.

They are American troops from the film Lost Battalion (I can tell this from the difference in rifles that were used by the American and British troops most accurately). I can see why they looked British to you though, because of the helmets, and the equipment is very similar looking, and even infact the Battledress.
