I use Evernote by installing it, trying it out and use OneNote instead. If EverNote was set up in a manner like a binder with subdividers, subpages, sub-sub pages like OneNote is, I would find it much easier to use. EverNote to me is a Web Surfer's dream come true but not a serious, academic note taking software that I could use at school or work. It emphasizes finding stuff on the net but not the other areas. OneNote works well in all three.
Wow, haven't checked my YouTube inbox in some time so I didn't see your response for several months. Zappr5, that's fine. Tags are folders but OneNote is far easier to navigate than Evernote. Not everyone likes the linear, toilet-paper role note taking style.
I use it as a storage/virtual networking device. Instead of saving something on one computer to a flash drive and taking the flash drive to the other computer; save it to Evernote - go to the other computer and there it is. Move it to where you want it in the other computer.
I am in sales of HVAC equipment. I use Evernote to take pics of system specifications. No matter were I am Roof of at high rise or a basement of a residence I can collect lots of tedious information with one pic from my phone. With the gps i don't worry about tags or titles because I can see where the pic was taken. This allows me to go to the office and write up proposals and make system decisions collecting all info about the job in a notebook. These notebooks are shared with my team.
Evernote is awesome. I use it to: * send various thoughts throughout the day via Outlook or my mobile phone text message * store family photos as a virtual photo album * to do lists * spreadsheets * word documents * MP3 music * bookmarks, links * lists of EVERYTHING I need for any situation * organize research into folders * store all contact phone #, address, email * shopping * If I see a cool article on the web, I clip it straight to Evernote * access everything via mobile phone
It's always an excellent idea to increase input options to EverNote. (Or any application for that matter) This increases usability exponentially. In this same spirit, may I suggest that we collectively ask EverNote to consider the following: A plugin / option that will allow users to use an external editor to enter data into Evernote. I'm sure there are many coders, writers and bloggers who 'd love that feature:
I have clip files for design ideas pulled form magazines. Rather than save the whole page in a file, I scan into evernote, and can tag it so it is cross-referenced. I also clip web pages and add images from my i-phone, so I have a fully tagged file from different sources.
1. I make notes with pen and paper and use a shellscript at home to scan those notes in and have them mailed to evernote
2. I scan various kinds of paperwork to file it in evernote so i can reach it at another place.
3. The same way as this video describes
4. When doing research, I collect snippets of websites in evernote and use the web interfaces 'go to source' button to go to the original websites when needed.
How DON'T I use Evernote? As an ex-OneNote user, I literally use Evernote to track and archive 99.999% of the information that makes up my busy life. What I use it for most frequently is clipping images or storing text I want to refer to / research later, such as a snap via my iPhone's camera of something I plan to purchase but want to do more research about.
I use Evernote for note-taking for my writing, for jotting down notes, saving scraps of research, or pasting in thoughts, questions. I've also used it as a receptacle for snippets I've removed from a given piece but may want to use elsewhere later. I have a section for grammar - things I have problems with, such as words/phrases I use too often or words I misuse. I have a section for each book, grammar, miscellaneous notes, research, and personal (such as things I'd like towrite for my website).

I don't use Evernote - because it requires an Internet connection and is cloud-based. I'd like to keep my info. private.

I use Evernote to catalog video dailies.
I am a professional video producer/director.
When we screen our raw footage, we immediately catalog the Roll number and what clips were shot, in the sequence they were shot.
Thousands of clips later, we are instantly able to identify "CU man at beach - Roll 080127", etc.
It's totally amazing for this use alone!!
Of course, I also keep EVERYTHING else in my life on a password locked file: ID's/ passwords, acct #'s , security codes, tele numbers, etc.

I use Evernote to store all my company invoices and purchase orders. Makes a great mobile document store that I can use on my iPhone.

I created an Applescript that takes every document I scan and makes it into a PDF note. That way I always have access to it, no matter where I am.
aluter 3 years ago 3
I have been trying to figure out how to do this. Any link online to your applescript? wink, wink, nudge, nudge. ;-)

I have a shellscript in linux, but I prefer to scan to .jpg because the web interface shows previews of those
MeriaDuck 3 years ago
i would be interested in the apple script also if you would like to post it....

@aluter would you be interested in explaining how to do this? :)

@aluter would you pass the script on, perchance?
