  • This song is Danielle Brisebois! Album '' Arrive All Over You.'' This is so true!! And the best too. The rest is rest.

  • carly sounded so different back then. this is a real nice version! kelly's more like the powerhouse kinda ballad with subtle sorrow. carly's is a raw heartbreaking one..i like both i'm serious

  • I like Carly, the song is great.. but kelly's voice is sooooooo much better.

  • Carly just copied the original.Kelly Clarkson made a change and made it actually MUCH better.Kelly owns :D

  • Not better than Kelly Clarkson.

  • i really love this song..

doesn't matter who is the singer is :D

  • Long live Carly!

  • I don't know why so many people hate on poor Carly. If you onl knew her background...truly knew what she has been through. Anyhow I think she is an amazing singer! Her solo album was awesome but never got promoted cause RCA wanted to promote crap at the time instead of her. I heard her songs on the radio like 3 times and I searched for her cd for years and had to end up ordering it cause they really didn't push it to too many stores. God bless you Carly you are awesome!

  • I think kelly is the best but I like carly's version better

  • Danielle Brisebois? Is that the same girl who played Archie Bunker's niece years ago?

  • I think hers, Kelly's, Danielle's, Trine Rein's (and who else who covered this song, LOL) had done an awesome job. Because this song is just simply cool but hard to sing. Agree? :)

  • I have this album....lol.....not nearly her best work....oh well....

  • this is CARLY?!

    wtf?!

this sounds horrible...Kelly's version is 10000x better.

  • Carly Smithson pwns this song more than kelly. final, hope the guy that made the duet whit the two of em, that was the best:)

  • not bad...

but i definately prefer kellys version!

i remember really liking some performance carly di on AI, but i cant remember wat the song was. ill have to try and find it.

  • shes perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5*****

  • I can't believe this wasn't a hit

    it's amazing

  • It's good, but I dunno, she's trying way to hard to make it 'emotional', 'raw' and stuff. Kelly just sings it, and the emotion required comes through naturally in her voice.

  • She sounds really different. I liked her more on idol than i do in this song.

  • Didn't like it! :S

  • Where are you Carly? I loved you on AI and lived in SD. You deserve another chance!

    JD - Las Vegas

  • Gives me chills, she should re-record this song and put it out. It would do well.

  • this is carly

  • This was my favorite song on Kelly's first album, but I'm liking this version better. I can feel more emotion in Carly's voice, plus it sounds a little more country, and I love country. ^^;

  • It is Carly Smithson! She was 15/16 back then... her first album was out under the name of Carly hennesy

  • yea she got married after this was released....and she was allot younger

  • Ok ok i know what happened now. I read that her first album wasnt successful at all, but yea, this is her. MY BAD fuckers that gave me the dumbs down..

  • She changed her style completely! She sounded better on American Idol. A lot better.

  • Overall, I like Kelly's version better. But I really like the high note in this one!! I love both Kelly and Carly. :D

  • I love Kelly and Carly, but I think Carly's voice suits this song more. Both versions are very good.

  • That's because Carly's sounds EXACTLY like the original by Danielle Brisebois, right down to the phrasing. Now that's not too bad because Danielle's is amazing but I gotta give Kelly some credit for actually making the song her own. Carly sounds good but it's just too copycat for me.

  • @luckystar007 Actuallyyou are way off. Danielle is copying Carly's phrasing etc...

Danielle didn't record her version till 2006. Carly recorded hers in 2000/2001.

Yes Danielle wrote the song but doesn't mean that Danielle recorded it 1st. Now as far as a demo it is possible she sang it like that but hey even if that is the case that is what artists do that have other writers. They listen to what the writer wants and they then try to evoke the emotion the writer wants.

WRONG. Danielle recorded two versions, the first was on her 1994 debut album Arrive All Over You. Seven years before Carly recorded hers. Get your facts right dude. Also, the version from 2006 is actually recorded in 1999. The album that version two was on was delayed 7 years.

  • @themusicman777 Yes I may be wrong but I stated that she wrote the song so I am sure she had demos etc. Anyway who cares...a good song is a good song and a good artist is a good artist. The song writer has say in how a song goes...well a producer as well...so I am sure they wanted Carly to sing it that way. Trust me the artist...especially one at 16 does NOT get the say on how a song should be unless they have clout in the industry and at the time Carly recorded this she was new and only 16.

  • @themusicman777

Actually, Neither Carly Smithson nor Kelly Clarkson wrote the song. It was Trine Rein's single in 1993.

  • this is carly????

  • i love carly no matter what you all say..she's great.

  • Neither one of these versions is "pitchy" or more correctly off pitch because both have been processed, if need be, to be on pitch. These are both off of major label record releases. There is no "pitchy" here, this isn't live.

  • kelly's better is better, and stronger, but the background vocals are better

  • i love this version. better than kelly's, although i like hers a lot too.

  • i like kelly's version better.....

  • Carly's "broken sound" style is just her channeling the vocal stylings of Danielle Brisbois who wrote the song, produced half the tracks on the album, Ultimate Hight, and is actually doing the back up vocals here on Carly's version. In fact, much of the vocals on this album are amazingly accurate covers of Danielle's vocals. Hennessy was sixteen when this was recorded so taking advice from the more experienced producers was likely the smart choice here. Carly is a truly great talent.

  • that's fine, I just don't like it. i prefer when people create their own style. I have never heard of Danielle Brisbois but that's pretty cool anyway....thanx

  • I think Kelly & Carly's versions are great for different reasons. However Carly's was first but she is attempting the "broken sound" which I don't like. I think that Kelly's songs lack some emotion sometimes and she doesn't enunciate. Anyway, Carly should have won American Idol despite her previous attempts to stardom, the fact that Jason beat her is disturbing...but it really "doesn't matter anyway".

  • I miss Carly soooo much from American Idol. She should have at least been top 3.

  • Carly Fans: Ultimate High, The album Carly recorded as a teen, is up for sale on bote ITunes & Amazon. It is a very nice pop album that I think every Carly fan should have...If you would like to buy it and support her, go to one of the sites. Carly is doing pretty good on amazon.

  • I love her version :)

  • the reason this sounds so unlike carly is because she was only 15 when this was recorded!!

  • Wow, she sounds so different! I cant belive she is gone she was my fave and had the best talent!

  • this sounds nothing like carly

  • wow I love Carly's version!Carly is so awesome!I want her or David Cook to win!Hopefully they'll be the top 2!^__^

  • SHE GOT VOTED OFF =[ im so pissed

  • Yeah - also, rcdbeast - since you've got me on my soapbox, look at what about 2 minutes of websurfing turned up: 1) Trine Rein recorded this song is 1993 and 2) Danielle Brisbois did it in 1994 and 3) some chick names Maarja recorded it in 1998. SO - I think it's fair to say this was NOT Kelly Clarkson's song first - more like last. Now, it's obvious you have the Internet - use it once in a while.

  • Thankful was released in 2003

Ultimate High was released in 2001 - two years PRIOR to Miss Clarkson's album.

The song has also been recorded by a few other artists. Sounds like someone needs a lesson in studio songwriting politics (not to mention basic chronology).

And she sounds damn good for a 17 year old - so can the "horrible" comments.

  • ummm it was not Kellys first.. so shut it

  • Man. Her voice is so awesome! I just love this girl!

  • cool
