  • ya, dont make it too easy to camp, but dont go crazy with shit popping up from behind and getting totally surrounded cuz that just gets anoiying (bad spelling, i kno)

  • This is great. But I'm worried about the mansion going into L4D. The resident evil manson had a lot of narrow hallways and stuff it will be too easy for people to camp, and to survive. Don't get me wrong I love the work you are doing, but I'd like to see it for HL2 also. Because my computer can actually run that lol.

    I would help you with mapping so you wouldn't need to worry about it. Im doing a map for ZP:S but high school messes with my hours. And im doing it by four layers.

  • Ahh Goldeneye, good times...

    RE is a hard game to run on HL, I'm waiting to see what you can do for it gameplay wise. Perhaps the folks at RE: Twilight may have some interest. Top notch work as always, although the bookshelves look a bit odd.

  • Ugh, I absolutely hate them bookshelves. I really did not want to go through the tedious work of modeling and texturing new ones. I think doing the book spines would have drove me crazy.

    Maybe something I'll get around to.

  • Even if you did something as simple as removed the back frame from the CSS office supply shelves and put books in there. Of course, easier said than done.

    I wouldn't use content from other people's mods, even if they said I could. I'll use what assets Valve have made, or what I have created myself, but that's it.

    It's more than just creating a mod, that's not really my goal. It's improving my skills by creating a wide variety of content(maps, textures, models, etc).

    The models *are* the terrorists from CS Source. I'm working on replacing them with citizen models that I will reskin to look like Russian soldiers. There is really no reason to go through the effort of making whole new models when they will suffice for now.

    1: I was think of avoiding "Streets" altogether. It would be rather bland to play I think. As for the tank in Runway, it'll just have to be nixed for now.

    2: He doesn't blow up a helicopter on Frigate, he places a tracking bug. Seeing as I'm not much of a coder, I suppose I'll just have to make the objective something I'm capable of doing(such as actually blowing up the helicopter :P )

  • as soon as i heard left 4 dead was going to be released i thought of you mod. i knew you were not gonna release it by then. great work and keep us up to date. p.s. can you include some russian soldier skins instead of the t skins? i know this is just a demo version for now but attention to detail is everything :)

  • While it's sad to hear that you put the RE mod onhiatus, it's good to hear about Goldeneye. It looks really good! Boy, does it bring back memories. I really hope you put the Monraker laser in there! Also, have you thought about the classic Bond watch? Anyway, good luck on the mod!

  • Excellent job, very spot on. I'm in the same boat as you I feel as far as waiting for left 4 dead. I've been steadily working on re-creating the maps of resident evil 2, and learning as I go. Still some things I'm touchy on but for the most part it's going great since I last asked you questions a while ago.

    One quick question though, if/when you intend to port your mansion for instance to left 4 dead, I believe you have a teleporter on each door to go between rooms is that ---

  • correct? or is it that each room is a seperate map that you work on. Because one thing I've tried to do is cram as much detail as possible into each and every room.

    Though I can make a room very detailed, it gets to the point where either im not efficient enough in my resource usage, or its just that the game cannot handle too much detail.

    What i mean is, i completely made the RPD main hall of RE2, i figured i would start to map other rooms, the outside etc, all connected. it worked great but

  • then i got to a point right out of nowhere, i try to compile the map to test it out every bit as i go and it just refuses to compile, the game loads and it only shows what i had when i started working on it prior, so i trace my steps back, delete a gate here and there and free up 100 brushes, it works again and allows me to place more until i reach that threshold again.

    My question is this, would you say its possible to be able to make a huge map worthy of left4dead, and not be without detail?

    I did have all rooms separate of each other in the RE mod, though they were all the same map. It was also extremely packed with rooms and models and I managed to compile fine.

  • Oh, odd. So you never really worry about adding too many brushes or putting too much detail? Must just be something I'm doing I don't know what, if that is the case I guess I could just map the whole RPD in one map.. I actually sized out the rooms and everything is to scale, I was pretty pissed when i found out after i started detailing things that i would need to split the rpd up into seperate maps.. Like in just the rpd the compiler says i've already used over 4500 brushes and 8k is the limit.

  • Lastly, this project is NOT PART OF GOLDENEYE SOURCE. I do not work for their team, nor will I ever. What they do and what I do are completely independent of each other.

    My soul source of inspiration is Goldeneye N64. There will undoubtedly be similarities between our two projects as we are recreating the same game. Any similarities are total coincidence and to be expected.

    I have purposefully not played their game as to not be affected by it(which pretty much goes for any mod these days).

    well ure new project looks very cool..i like the idea of "objective 1,2 3.." ..well i just dont like that ak47 model you mande =\..but i love how you made the reloading so fast :D

  • The AK47 looks like that because thats how it looked in the original Goldeneye. or at least thats how i remember it.

  • Secondly, I'm doing this project because I love Goldeneye. I'm having as much fun making it as I am playing it.

    I'm going to try to stay as true to what Goldeneye is as I am able. That means simple animations - no exceptions. THIS WILL NOT CHANGE. Whatever Goldeneye did, I'm going to try to do.

    I'm going to try to focus on gameplay for now (guns, enemies, etc), all the miscellaneous nitpicky crap will be fixed last.

  • Obviously a lot of mixed reactions. I expected as much; most all of you have subscribed to get updates on the RE Mod.

    A couple of things I'd like to say. Firstly:

    The reason I'm working on this mod is because of its simplicity. This is the first time one of my weapon models has appeared in game. It has weapons that are easy to model and animate, and levels that I know in my sleep.

    I'm using this project as a stepping stone to improve my skills in weapon modeling, animating, and coding.

  • An observation; maybe you should improve the reloading sequences

    and make it more realistic, it would take long time to reload but it would be cool.

    also the number of grunts of the enemies should be expanded.

  • Holy hell. Just hearing your maps and Left 4 Dead together in one screen made me almsot squeal like a little girl. The maps look fucking AWESOME, and Left 4 Dead looks equally awesome. So those two combined should be for some EPIC times.

    Baxton, you are flat-out amazing. Don't ever give this up, your too good at it.

  • still think that you could have made something new, maybe new maps with the golden eye gameplay, that way it will be more interesting.

  • Oh, I forgot to mention. I'm sure you already noticed it, but when you shot Natalyx in the face it said the Objective 3 was failed, when it should've said 2...But you know me, nitpicky =p.

  • I would say I'm disappointed that the RE stuff isn't going to be a stand alone mod. But honestly, I'm not. This way, you can pretty much just focus on mapping and what not, with some minor skinning and stuff for the RE maps (which you wouldn't really need to do, playing the same RE characters does get old after awhile). I was wondering why the related videos were of Golden Eye stuff at first haha. But anyways, great work, and I'm looking forward to saving Natalyx!

  • NOOOOOOOO, fuck sake, it's your mod, you can do anything with it, but.....the resident evil mod was looking so good, left for dead does not look that great graphicaly, well, I guess my search for a good resident evilo half life 2 mod continues, I'm dissapointed, but hey, it's your work and you can do whatever you want with it, of course i will still check out your Left 4 Dead mod when it comes out.

  • I can't wait to play. It should be made significantly more difficult than Goldeneye, though, because of the more advanced engine. I agree completely with your decisions in this video and support you all the way. I'll be quite excited for Left 4 Dead by itself, but this gives it a whole new meaning. Thank you for existing!

  • HAHA I subscribed to you yesterday,er, this morning, because I found out about your RE HL2 stuff. Your maps did look amazing. But I think it would be better for the project to wait until L4D. But I also think the HL2 mod would have been epic. Maybe do both? AND, I played archives for goldeneye like 3 days ago, hearing those gun effects and "uhh" and "ahh" when the AI takes damage made me giggle...

  • you should rescript the ak realoading thing instead of just taking it off screen which looks a bit crap make you actually reaload it instead
