@shibby1965 - stop commenting on this video of my family's property, but by all means please check the address on usps.com, it IS a Lafayette address.
It's Ashokan Farewell by Jay Ungar. It was featured as a main theme throughout the Ken Burns PBS mini-series The Civil War which is where you might have heard it.
Matt the log house is beautiful and amazing. You can just sense that the living there is relaxing and carefree. I know you're enjoying your visit home. Thanks for sharing a little bit of that good clean living with all of us! -Jim
You know, this being my first year on the Tube and having met so many terrific new people here it's really enhanced my enjoyment of my vacation because I get to have fun and do things AND I get to share them and talk about them, so its like taking your friends along with you! Thanks, Matt
Mama's got a page! Cool. Your home is Gorgeous! I especially love the high ceilings and exposed beams. And of course the front porch and side porches - how neat that it wraps all the way around. And then there's that cool stove in the kitchen. I could go on and on. Wow! RC's a lucky guy.
I DID feel a little pretentious using BOTH the 'Ken Burns Effect' on the pictures AND Ashokan Farewell, the theme of his Civil War documentary...but it's just SUCH a stirring song!
Matt, your family home is simply exquisite. The dream home of my hubby and myself. We love country surroundings....and we are in the city! So, we improvise. Gee..I got chills watching this...Legends of the Fall comes to mind. Hugs, Chris
Aww, you're just too sweet! I spent my teen years trying to convince myself that I didn't miss the country and wasn't homesick for TN mainly because I couldn't get back there so I had to rationalize for myself. I'm glad I know better now!
Matt, thanks for the lovely tour. Right now seeing beautiful things is a nice thing for us! TJ and Solomon as well as myself loved your folks home! You are so kind to open it up and share it with us! Nice relaxing music that was so nice for us. Im liable to play this video over and over again today just to listen! HUGS, again it was nice to meet you!
Thanks Peggy! You tell the family hi for me. And in case you missed the title in the video and want to track down the music it's called Ashokan Farewell and it's written and played by Jay Ungar.
Well, there's a creek down the hill out back but I don't think there's much to fish for there. But there's a barbecue shack down the road about half a mile!
I knew it! Working in Real Estate I guessed Log House right off the bat! *patting self on back* though down here in FL, those things area BEAR to finance! LOL
Matt, I'm in LOVE! Your parents home is simply resplendent ~ no wonder you're so at peace there!! Your musical choice was as exquisite as the home itself!!
Heh...I worked in the mortgage biz for a while during the 'boom', and though I didn't want to move up in the snake pit I was working in I studied and learned enough that I could probably take the Real Estate Agent license test if I wanted to! Crazy field, innit?
Yeah, though not in the TOTALLY rustic sense. It's made of shaped logs fitted together...and wasps DO have a nasty habit of nesting in the upper nooks, but it's by every other standard a very cozy modern house.
It's got its ups and downs! Cell phone service SUCKS around here! I have to scale the hill up to the County road in front of the house just to get a BAD signal...NOT that THAT'S a bad thing! ;-)
Well you CAN use a cell phone, but you have to go up the hill in front of the house and up to the highway to get any kind of signal so it's usually quicker just to climb the pole out back!
Oh at least you can GET a signal!!! My service is so crummy that the last time I was up there I had to drive all the way to Gallatin to retrieve my voicemail!
Beautiful home and the music is awesome! It reminds me so much of down home. So relaxing and such beautiful scenery. I could set on the porch swing with a cup of hot chocolate and just enjoy the sun set! Thank you Matt for sharing!!! Loved it!
Thanks so much! This is one of my favorite places in the whole world.
Now the SONG is also a favorite of mine, but it was made famous in the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War, which is why I felt a LITTLE funny using the 'Ken Burns' effect on all the pictures!
I think you made a great choice with the music too.
I think I will go visit my parents this weekend and take a few photos. My last vid was a bit heavy so I think sharing pictures of home would make me feel better.

Nice Place! I'm Sure It Was A Great Place To Grow Up! That's Probably Why You Turned Out So Rad. God Bless You Matt!
musiklova94 4 years ago
Aww...thanks! I only WISH I'd grown up there, though! I AM from here originally and it's where my family still lives, so I'm lucky in that respect.
But I'll still take being called Rad ANY day! ;-)

Wait, I'm confused... who is the black dog in two of the shots toward the end of the first minute of the video?

Don't you remember CUJO the evil Wal-Mart Labrador?!
I can't get around as well to take pictures this year as I could last year!

'Last year,' OK, that makes sense now.... I was going to FREAK if that dog was back somehow.... Pet Cemetary? Whew, glad that's settled....

It's a great looking home Matt. It looks like it should have a few 'Waltons' scattered around the place! :-) G'night Jim-Bob.

Nope, no Waltons...just a few o' them crazy Casanovas!

OK, this amuses me greatly, as our surname is actually pretty close to 'Walton' and Daddy's family is nearly as big as the Waltons!!! =D
