I have heard from former prisoners in the west who themselves wished that they would have gotten a Shari'ah punishment of their hand being cut rather than serving years in jail term. Having fought an insurgency against the Indonesian government for decades, they finally reached a settlement in 2005 after the tsunami the previous year. The settlement was that Aceh remains a part of Indonesia but it gets to dictate how its regions will be run. It may pass and implement its own laws. All in return for disarmament.

Iam Indonesian but don't live in Aceh Province. though I won't be commited to sharia law, I agree if the sharia law applied in Aceh. the truth is 1st, applying sharia law is one of many requirements that Aceh Province won't separate itself from Indonesia. 2nd, Islam has been strongly part of Acehnese people since a thousand years a go even while other people in other provinces in Indonesia were Hindu or Buddhist. In addition, Aceh was the only colony of Turkish Ottoman in Indonesia.

that's not entirely true is it? Christian have been victims of religious hatred in Indonesia and budhists in southern Thailand as well as fighting in Southern Phillipines. Sunni and Shiites in the middle east have been in constant battle for centuries yet it's all the West's fault?. The problem with Islam is that, particulalarly in Sunni Islam, where there is no governing body, it is open to corruption, hence why you see misguided people killing other muslims and non believers. Going into Afghanistan was justified initially as it was in response to Taliban harbouring of AlQueda. The war in Iraq was wrong however it was decision of a few men not collective western society. We may have started the conflict in but it's Sunni v Shite killings destroying the redevelopment

I have heard from former prisoners in the west who themselves wished that they would have gotten a Shari'ah punishment of their hand being cut rather than serving years in jail term.
