Lots of evidence for evolution, but very little for Jesus. The Jesus myth is a lovely story that has to be a 'faith' because there is absolutely no evidence available to us, apart from the four gospels, written years after the events they unfold - that such a character ever existed in the first place.
@Basicallybenign You based your faith on the Piltdown man fake for forty years and I bet you are unaware of the skulduggery at the Royal Society through Erasmus Darwin and his Pagan friends. I bet you are also unaware that Isaac Newton gave more credence to faith than science or that Einstein fell short of challenging the truth or that the flawed rules of science were derived from philosophy, sorcery, alchemy and theologian beliefs. This is the blind leading the blind and Kaku is made of dust.
@PaulMcTube I am aware of all these things. You didn't mention Darwin's finches. The nature of life is that we adapt to the circumstances we find ourselves in. And what the hell did he mean when he said you "dont turn too religion". Of course you turn to fucking religion. It's another side of an argument. O'Reilly was just playing semantics and grasping at straws. I believe it's the quite animalistic tactic; threaten the opponent into submission. How the fuck can we formulate our own opinions without outside influence?
This isn't a religion where we worship everything that comes out of Dawkins mouth and live by it under pain of death.
We take on the intelligent thoughts and facts that come from Dawkins and other great men and play them over in our own minds, thus formulating our own thoughts and opinions. Life is based on experiences and the people you meet and learn from.
@bmehoota Creationists don't accept carbon dating (or what it might be called exactly) as a valid method of figuring how old something is. They won't accept data that shows how old that tree is, just like they won't accept data that shows the age of limestone or diamonds.
Your argument will thus not impress Creationists, but of course I agree.
@pyromanizak Creationists counted up the life spans of people in the bible and they calculated the earth to be 6000 years. It's very stupid, but a lot of Christians believe this to be more effective then science.
there are over 700 million hindus in the world. how can o'reily say most of us are believers. when he can't see past the borders of his own country! I believe his cosmology extends from the microwave oven in his kitchen to his studio at fox news (a magical place where everyone has to believe in him). btw. I am American and not hindu
ya dawkins makes oreilly look like a fucking retart, if you belive in GOD your a sheep in the herd, ba ba just keep beliving what other people tell you. dont think for yourself
I am sure there is rejoicing in heaven about Bill witnessing the truth. Imagine the rejoicing if Richard found Jesus, wow get praying give Richard a chance.
@PaulMcTube And so logic and argument gives way to mysticism and conspiracy.
I'm not going to follow the hunch of someone incapable of responding to argument. And I have better things to do that searching in the dark for Satan's fingerprints. If science is Satan, 'Hail Satan!'. At least he's doing something in the world, unlike your omni-impotent God.
The most noticeable difference is that science specifically states--and therefore freely admits--that it doesn't have all the answers, but can prove the ones it does have and is using them to find the ones it doesn't.
Religion, on the other hand, claims by definition to have all the answers and not need any supporting evidence.
God's food is very good, Monsanto's GM abomination causes organ failure. You need to learn the wicked origins of science to wake up from your delusion.
@PaulMcTube you are one poor, sad little zealot who is so afraid of death, you'd rather believe in fairy stories... Science is all about one thing: proof! Primitive mad did not have science....
@TiaraAlonso Science is theory not proof, we will never have all the answers even scientists will tell you that and if you think I am afraid of death then you have totally missed the point. Oh and look up the word zealot so you can avoid misusing it in the future.

Never heard of Bill O'Reilly before (as I'm from the UK) but after watching this it flabbergasts me that someone of this limited intellect can actually become a TV host. Some of the stuff he blurts out is preposterous. He is a solid gold moron! Funny place, America.
@PaulMcTube You are derived from your father, and so on. Therefore (if you disagree with ANY ancestor) you are a parody yourself. See why that logic doesn't work?
I'd grant that concepts such as an absolute truth, and therefore an objective reality, are rooted in monotheism, and to some degree bound to them.
But empiricism (which is what Dawkins and much of modern science represents) isn't tied to religion in any meaningful way, except as a movement AGAINST faith and belief.
@PaulMcTube What about it? That the simplest answer is usually the correct one seems to go against religion more than for it, because it traditionally adds another level to the problem, which most people call God.
I'm reminded of a position known as occasionalism, which states that the link between mind and body (such that will can become action) is possible because of localized miracles enacted by God, which doesn't explain anything, merely adding an unknown into a problem.
Why, oh why does an intelligent man like Prof Dawkins subject himself to blithering morons like Bill O'Reilly? At some point you have to tell your publicist "NO, I will not lower myself to speak to this idiot."
While we are "presenting" all of the possible solutions, we should probably include other world religions like oh I don't know, Islam? I wonder how O'Reilly would feel about that....
What about paganism? It makes significant more sense than Christianity.
I am pagan but I do not believe my faith should be taught in a science classroom because exactly as Dawkins said, science is about just that... science, not exploring alternatives. If you want to explore alternatives to faith, take a class specific to faith. But science should be about what we either know or can prove. Not what we suspect might be true because we have no other possible answer.
@BrandonC3 Science is the doctrine of paganism, if you look closely you will see that a synthesis of beliefs, ideas, theories and assumed facts is taking place. An example of this is super string theory and the so called next step of human evolution is giving support to New Age religion, the age of Aquarius and that oldest of lies we will all be like God.
Christianity is the hybridization of Judaism, which is a hybridization of paganism!
at least science changes with the evidence.
I understand that as a Christian you hold on so strongly to your blind beliefs, religion has a lot of good to it, like how to live our lives and what-not. But don't look toward it if you need facts, because it just isn't there.
@dexim67 The collective knowledge in the history of science is day 1 week 1 at the kindergarten compared to God's creation. Just go outside and marvel, science is just trying to find out how it is done.
How does someone who clearly had his brain removed as a child get a chat-show? oh yea, he lives in america. I really hope o'reillys show isn't too popular as this is just another component of society that is slowing down human advancement.
@mrswinkyuk Speaking of the begining of life, when is yours going to start. You've posted over 20 times in the past week alone, all negative comments You are without a doubt a real loser, and worst an imbocile in the truest sense of the word. get off the computer, put on some clothes, and get off the drugs,it's been a long time since you've been in the real world.
@TheJrocket88 , sorry it's taken me so long to read your dumb-ass comment, I was out with friends after work :-D. ha ha, you really are a joke aren't you
@TheJrocket88 You run out of ideas already? doesn't look like you're enjoying it to me, it looks like you're trying to put on a brave face. Some on! THINK of something ! You'll never get your troll hat like this.
@mrswinkyuk I don't have a brave face, but I do have a compassionate one, and while I could say a lot of nasty things to you , why should I , you haven't done anything to hurt me, in fact you seem like a fun person. But if it makes you feel good to insult me, go right ahead, nothing you say will hurt me, besides I like the attention.
It must be frustrating trying to talk about science with people that don't even understand the scientific method on the most basic level. At least Dawkins makes an effort to learn the argument of the opposition to make informed points.
i am a christian and believe in intelligent design but the way bill o'reilly tried to defend faith was beyond pathetic. a good debater will listen to his adversary and present a logical counter argument. however what bill has done was cut off Richard everytime he presented a rational statement to which bill has no answer for.in respect to my atheist/evolutionist friends i believe that there are counter arguments that can disprove evolution but bill just made himself and creationists look stupid
@HoTEcuaBoy You do know that Jesus was voted God at First Council of Nicaea in AD 325. Before that the jury was out. Man, God, Super Hero or a bit of it all. It was Constantine who pressed for an answer for political reasons. I dont think he was bothered which way the vote went so long as all his subjects believed the same thing. Put a stop to the bickering between churches you see. It would be interesting to know what the vote was. Just think if Jesus became a god on the strengh of one vote!
@kc6201 Creationism is the greatest lie ever told. The earth is only 6,000 years old, and was created in only six days? Every single person in the world is descended from only two individuals (Adam & Eve)? Where is the genetic diversity? Total and utter nonsense every single word of it. The only actual "evidence" of any kind for creationism are the so called "holy" books of the world
Bill O'Reilly is as thick as SHITE. Why does he invite a guest and then talk over him? Why does he think the viewers want to hear the chat show host's opinion more than a famous Oxford professor? What a dick.
@drjrich222 It's Fox News. Unfortunately, a lot of the viewers WOULD rather hear O'Rielly's point of view. Why? Because it matches their own, and they're uncomfortable with change.
@Gizz47 You have a fundamental misunderstanding of athiesm. Athiesm is simply a rejection of claims of the existence of god because there has never been any evidence to support those claims. The burden of proof is on those who claim that an all-powerful invisible man exists. Athiests don't have the burden of proof because we are not claiming anything. We make no assertion to the existence/non-existence of any diety. We just find it improbable that one exists, again, based on evidence.
Oh my God I have no idea how Dawkins was able to stay so calm in the face of such rude idiocy.

@elcarsto

How old is the earth?
radiometric dating (scientific testing) = 4.5 billion years
bible (ancient book) = 6000 years
Percent Error = (-99.9998667%)
Fun Fact: the longest living tree is 9,550 years old. Creationism Fails.
bmehoota 1 month ago 30
@bmehoota Creationists don't accept carbon dating (or what it might be called exactly) as a valid method of figuring how old something is. They won't accept data that shows how old that tree is, just like they won't accept data that shows the age of limestone or diamonds.
Your argument will thus not impress Creationists, but of course I agree.
diiebane 1 month ago
@bmehoota When at any point does the bible say the earth has been around for 6000 years?
pyromanizak 1 month ago
@pyromanizak Creationists counted up the life spans of people in the bible and they calculated the earth to be 6000 years. It's very stupid, but a lot of Christians believe this to be more effective then science.

@bmehoota What's even funnier is how the earth is supposedly 6000 years old, yet we can see stars millions of light years away!

Who would you trust in any other context?

The principles, laws and rules of science are derived from philosophers and theologians, therefore science is a parody of itself.
PaulMcTube 1 month ago
@PaulMcTube You are derived from your father, and so on. Therefore (if you disagree with ANY ancestor) you are a parody yourself. See why that logic doesn't work?
I'd grant that concepts such as an absolute truth, and therefore an objective reality, are rooted in monotheism, and to some degree bound to them.
But empiricism (which is what Dawkins and much of modern science represents) isn't tied to religion in any meaningful way, except as a movement AGAINST faith and belief.
i7omahawki 1 month ago
@i7omahawki What about the likes of Occam's razor to name but one?
PaulMcTube 1 month ago
@PaulMcTube What about it? That the simplest answer is usually the correct one seems to go against religion more than for it, because it traditionally adds another level to the problem, which most people call God.
I'm reminded of a position known as occasionalism, which states that the link between mind and body (such that will can become action) is possible because of localized miracles enacted by God, which doesn't explain anything, merely adding an unknown into a problem.

BrandonC3 1 month ago
@BrandonC3 Science is the doctrine of paganism, if you look closely you will see that a synthesis of beliefs, ideas, theories and assumed facts is taking place. An example of this is super string theory and the so called next step of human evolution is giving support to New Age religion, the age of Aquarius and that oldest of lies we will all be like God.
PaulMcTube 1 month ago
@PaulMcTube
