This would have made a better game than "Skyward Sword". My theory is that they abandoned this storyline because they just made a zelda game that was somewhat dark (twilight princess) and this one seems even darker. Skyward Sword seems to be heavily based on the Wii gameplay, and as many of us know, Wii is commercializes itself to "family friendly" homes. Something like Link having desires and inner conflict seems too deep for your "family friendly" game, but we'll have to wait and see SS.

Damn, Nintendo should realize by now that they'll maybe lose a bunch of younger audience members, but gain a lot more adult audience members if they do make Zelda games darker. Besides, which 10-year old is going to ask their mom for a game where this guy kills things and shoots things? And which mom would actually buy it? SPOILER ALERT: Some hours ago, Miyamoto talked more about this game. Link lives in a realm floating in the sky called Skyloft, which is the colorful and beautiful land we saw at the trailer. In the story, Link somehow gets forced to go to the lands below, which are invaded by evil forces.
Maybe with this image the tried to show how the lands below Skyloft will look like: Ruins, fire and decaying lands. The graphic style is more than PERFECT to portray this awesome contrast of both lands

The idea of Link's soul being consumed by darkness sounds very appealing to me. I'm actually pretty tired of the "good, incorruptible nice guy who saves the princess and defeats evil in the end" cliche.
Majora's Mask was a very dark game, full of symbolism and hidden messages. I hope the new Zelda will incorprorate some aspects of MM, as well as set the foundations of a whole new Zelda, radically different from the Zelda we're used to.
@Diemedes I know, they should really be inspired by Majora's Mask. And I also hope that some people from the Zelda team go on the internet sometime and look at fan speculations. If Link's soul is corrupted in NZW2010, I'm going to travel all the way to Japan just to hug Miyamoto :D

there are secret codes in the background in Hylian and the secrets codes was a lot of text and information. but the two words was 'Red Visual' and that make a lot connection to the picture.
I think that Link is going to be his own enemy, as well as Ganondorf. Like, he's gonna have a dark side. That's what corrupted mind means. So he's gonna have like a double-entity.

It's amazing how much hype a Zelda game can create, just from one single piece of artwork there are already tons of analyses and speculations, I mean, it's sick really. This is a very good analysis I have to admit though, but we shouldn't expect too much. xD It's almost as if the game is already being destroyed by the hype. :P

Personally what I think is that nintendo needed something to show at E3 about the new zelda game so they threw this together at the last minute. no offense to nintendo.
Actually, Nintendo said they wouldn't show New Zelda Wii at E3 2009 because they'd rather concentrate on making the game and NOT making a demo and a trailer for it. I don't think Nintendo had to make anything up last minute, because they had LoZ: ST, the new Mario Wii game, and a bunch more =P NZW is E3 2010's surprise ;)
Hopefully the three dark decentents of the fused shadow are in this game
P.S. in the cutscene in twilight princess where the dark decendents destroy link and take over his body, maybe the light spirits made link good again but the dark decendents are still in his body. so I hope this game has something to do with that
Actually, the "3 dark descendants" as you put it, are a symbolism of Link's evil side. It could have been anyone else than Dark Link, but since Lanayru was showing Link the vision, he used Link as an evil figure. The three Dark Links are there to represent a person's evil side, the one corrupted by the Fused Shadows so long ago.
But yes, that does further prove that Link could get corrupted in this upcoming game.... Gah, I can't wait for it to come out =3

Here's my theory about the cave of fire. It might not be a cave, but looking down into a volcano. The only volcano in the Zelda series is Death Mountain. I don't think she is the master sword, but an even more powerfull sword that has yet to be forged? And where will she be forged? That's right. In the volcano.
one thing i noticed was that the head of the girl is the long part of the sword right?well if you look at the cape you should notice that is upside down compared to the master sword wich might mean the curropt mind of link like biggestlozfan was talking about
Hmm... But I think the cape's designs (the waves and stuff) were actually representing the phoenix-shaped handles of the MS. Don't ask why they're close to the tip of the sword, I don't know that =P

What about Ganondorf kidnapping the King of hyrule and Zelda at the same time taking them to different places and link only being able to save one of them, when you choose to save Zelda there is actually the hyrule king and Zelda gets killed and its all ur fault and that changes radically the tone and the complete history and ending of the game

The idea of Link's soul being consumed by darkness sounds very appealing to me. I'm actually pretty tired of the "good, incorruptible nice guy who saves the princess and defeats evil in the end" cliche.
Majora's Mask was a very dark game, full of symbolism and hidden messages. I hope the new Zelda will incorprorate some aspects of MM, as well as set the foundations of a whole new Zelda, radically different from the Zelda we're used to.

i think this game will take place between the minish cap and ocarina of time
link will unite the 4 races (zoras, gorons, dekus and humans) and at the end he will seal the sacred realm by stapping the master sword in to the ground of the temple of time
this "girl" we can see on this picture is actually the spirit of the master sword and this game will be the first game in the timeline that will introduce link with his master sword

The cave is probably Death Mountain, and you'll probably first gain the master sword there, only at first, it's in spirit form. That's my guess for now at least.

It's amazing how much hype a Zelda game can create, just from one single piece of artwork there are already tons of analyses and speculations, I mean, it's sick really. This is a very good analysis I have to admit though, but we shouldn't expect too much. xD It's almost as if the game is already being destroyed by the hype. :P

Actually, Nintendo said they wouldn't show New Zelda Wii at E3 2009 because they'd rather concentrate on making the game and NOT making a demo and a trailer for it. I don't think Nintendo had to make anything up last minute, because they had LoZ: ST, the new Mario Wii game, and a bunch more =P NZW is E3 2010's surprise ;)

P.S. in the cutscene in twilight princess where the dark decendents destroy link and take over his body, maybe the light spirits made link good again but the dark decendents are still in his body. so I hope this game has something to do with that

Actually, the "3 dark descendants" as you put it, are a symbolism of Link's evil side. It could have been anyone else than Dark Link, but since Lanayru was showing Link the vision, he used Link as an evil figure. The three Dark Links are there to represent a person's evil side, the one corrupted by the Fused Shadows so long ago.
But yes, that does further prove that Link could get corrupted in this upcoming game.... Gah, I can't wait for it to come out =3

Ok then someone important dies in te game by the Links fault he just cant stop the evil guy from doing it, even tough he does his best, we discover that Link is human and sometimes he fails

Here's my theory about the cave of fire. It might not be a cave, but looking down into a volcano. The only volcano in the Zelda series is Death Mountain. I don't think she is the master sword, but an even more powerfull sword that has yet to be forged? And where will she be forged? That's right. In the volcano.

Yeah, but think about it, Ilia didn't really care about Link when Epona was "hurt", so she'd put a horse before her 'love' for Link. Plus, she had 17 years to make her move, and she didn't. Too bad for her =P And a true love wouldn't forget her 'lover', ever. Ilia forgot everything and couldn't even remember Link's name, even when she stared right into his face =))

Ok ure right she forgot about him but it happens from time to time to everyone when you see a prettier girl but u obviusly remember her when u see her face but Ilia is like a girl talking only about her best friend (Epona) and she is veryclose to Link but she gave Link a whistle to call Epona maybe before she lost her memory it was intended for her move and yeah she sure was jealows about Link taking Zelda in a ride on Epona while figting ganondorf and Link&Zelda just share like 3min alone in TP

Yeah good sarcastic comment but hey If Illia hadnt loose her memory at the begining of the game you would have a very useful whistle at the begining of the game

Sorry, I think I'd rather use horse grass than a freakin metallic whistle that's gone God-Knows-Where before given to Link. Ilia prolly spit on it while desperately trying to use it to unsuccessfully call Epona >_>

Well, same here, but I'm a ZeLink fangirl, so it's kinda hard to concentrate on every scene with Link and Zelda in it together =P But the rest of the time, I say "For Hyrule, and for her!" and just kick ass =P

and yeah I hate Midna too (she is the Princess of a Twilight Realm with 3 zombie persons, thats very cool and would make everyone fell so special being the Princces of a Twiligth Realm with 3 persons and Zant)

That's mostly because there were really no other girls in Wind Waker to pair Link up with... But in OoT as well, compared to all the other girls Link could have been matched with, ZeLink towers above them and crushes them all =P

Let me put it this way (ZeLink fangirl here!) I think Illia loved Link , but not LOVE LOVE link no way!! she was his FRIEND! and midna, well... well you do have a point... BUT link and zelda DID live happily ever after and had a baby and named it after link and the world was in darkness once more and link and his son kicked its ass and...... well the baby part didnt happen unfortunatly... but i do think link and zelda luv eachother. also midna is gone and i really didnt think illia was that important even thouht she got kidnapped. and yes they did hav a right to hit on him. just hope the MASTER SWORD GIRL dont hit on him!

They didn't have the right to hit on him, specially not Ilia, when all she did was get captured and even forgot everything. Yeah, SOME girlfriend =.= I think Ilia was just a bother... Like, the designers only added her because they wanted to give the players someone to laugh at >|)

Well this is just how i think: Link & Zelda, Illia and Fado! Dont u think Fado & lllia would be O.K? Because Fado owned the ranch, and Illia is an animale lady sooo...Also in ALL the Zelda games(if u hadn't noticed), Link & Zelda always end up having some romantice bonding in their own scene in the games xD and i mean ALL of them (hopefully this new wii game too)!

Link and every one should have a voice to define their personality and the game needs moral decision with cosequences just like Grand Theft Auto IV
What about Ganondorf kidnapping the King of hyrule and Zelda at the same time taking them to different places and link only being able to save one of them, when you choose to save Zelda there is actually the hyrule king and Zelda gets killed and its all ur fault and that changes radically the tone and the complete history and ending of the game

Well, that's definetely not gonna happen... Nintendo doesn't really give you choices in the plot xD It's save Zelda all the time =P
But I dunno if many Zelda fans would like a change like that O_o We'd have to make a game like that to check =)
