I can also see how it becomes overwhelming to some people whom have worked their whole life only to find that due to the bad economy, job loss, or whatever now feel totally helpless. I bought my home in 1983, never missed or even had 1 late payment. My credit scores are over 775, yet due to job loss I have spent over 2 years trying to get WELLS FARGO to do a modification with zero results. It just breaks your spirit.SAD!

That same year I forced to apply for food stamps for the first time in my life. We lost our house too. Two highly educated people unable to care for our children. I was so ashamed I wanted to die, but it got better. My husband found work in another state and we survived.

What is not being reported is the truth about foreclosures which is the servicers of the loan (which are not normally the banks themselves) make more money by foreclosing as they add fees when it goes into foreclosure of $30,000-$70,000 and the servicers are paid first (before the bank). They are motivated to foreclose whereas the banks may not be but get their info from the servicers who are not honest to say the least.

What do I think. Well as someone who owes 50k (before interest)to a student loan lender and can't afford to pay it back. I'm looking at default. They can and probably will eventually come after me and garnish my wages. You can't file bankruptcy on student loans, they don't go away. Sallie Mae has no real restrictions and they can take money from you and harrass you for the rest of your life.
