  • When does the ps3 get the YLOD cuz i had mine for 4 years and and 15 days now

  • BTW dont u hate lead free solder....

  • prolimatech pk-1 is actually the best ic7 sucks it doesnt spread for shit and scratches the hell out of ihs's. btw u want as little TIM as possible. a very thin amount that is spread across the whole IHS means u have good contact and if u have a slightly bowed baseplate for your heatsink u can apply alot of force(in some cases) when u mount it and u will have almost zero tim on your IHS cause the contact is so good. 90% isopropyl alcohol works great to clean off tim

  • He should not have used that cheap white thermal paste. It is crap. Gotta use IC7 diamond compound or AS-5

  • why do you need a heat gun?

  • I just did this and now my ps3 is smoking, literally smoking. Every time I turn it on smoke comes out of the back

  • can u use a hairdryer

  • I did this and it worked.... it's been working for 4 days =)

  • I did everything like in the videos but mines keep turning green and powers up for about 1sec then turn yellow and shuts down and it start to flash 2 time the red light...any help plz thanx or did I do something wrong!??..

  • lmao "...700 to 1000.......heat"

great video! ima try this tomorrow :D

  • is this 100% to work

  • Hey this is a great video. What is the maximum temperature that you should apply to remelt the solder to reform the connections but without causing damage to the board? I have a hot air gun used for stripping paint but wondering if that is too hot? thanks great video :-)

  • @RichardNash100 Hot air gun, are you mad?????

  • What he is doing is called reflow and basically he is just heating the solder joints so the chip can make a stable connection. However, this repair is not permanent . The best repair is reball when you remove the GPU and put fresh solder balls and resolder back to the board.

  • How does that work? the ps3 malfunctions from over heating, yet you heat it to repair it? O.o

  • @123matadors

No you can't use a hair dryer. They get to about 40-60oC. A heat gun gets to 350oC on low setting and 500oC+ on high. A hair dryer wont do a thing to the solder and this is what needs to melt to reflow.

  • does the hair dryer insted of the heat gun work??? please help

  • the best way to fix this problem is to buy a new model instead of spending more money, mine broke 3 times already, first 2 times i did this fix and it sucked weeks later it came back,.after that i went to someone that replaces your gpu anf cpu and it went well for about 7 months spent 100 euros in this fix, and after 7 months it proke again i quit refixing it its just not worth it il just have to let it go, how unfortunate....

  • Want you just do a full fix and melt the solder and remove the chips and add new solder and reattach them and add pressure to bond, then add the thermal compound. The reason I say this is because your only temporarily fixing the problem with this method, once the console heats up again those cracks will reappear.

  • solder on the chip legs?

  • had my ps3 for 4 years no problems occurred only the ylod before 3 days:( i used the hair drier to fix it can anyone reply to me if doing that is bad for my ps3. thanks people.

  • Use arcitc silver 5 it is the best one out there.

  • @Quatre5555. Set to the medium temperature and hold about 2 inches away from the board for about 8 to 10 minutes. Do not keep it in the same spot for to long.

  • what temperature do you set the gun to?

  • 700 - 1000.... HEAT xD

  • Dont belive for this video, that work YES, but on one week, after one week problem comeback again..

  • @debiannet Did mine in 2009....still working.

  • how much temp??? F

  • man i got the ylod on 12/2/2010. now i have to do this bullshit just to play a system i payedf $400 for. il never trust Sony ever again :(

    thx though gamelinx

  • The heat paste he uses is trash it will make it yl faster with that stuff, ppl use arctic silver 5!!

  • Person below do not worry the files you could not find only show up on the ps3 ok but i have a question how long does this last because mine lasted 4 days then 1 day then 3 min then dead forever

  • my hubby followed ur procedure but i guess where the unlucky ones who wouldn't make it work. anyhow, i just want to ask if we will lose all the files from our hard drive? i'm not really good at this stuff but i somehow understand. we bought sata cable to transfer the data. my laptop said it was successfully installed but i can't find it on my computer? Does that mean we lost our data??? please let me know i'm so desperate to get my files from my harddrive.

  • for what did you use the Heat gun is it important to use it?

i saw other videos that did not use the heat gun why?

  • To help cool it down can I stick the motherboard in the fridge?

  • my mother in law thats funny

  • I got the ylod 3 weeks ago on tuesday im going try 2 fix it wish me luck

  • @grandgabe309 nt bothered

  • thats what mother in laws r for

  • @pspvessel i did with a hairdryer and it work i just need the thermal paste and i am done cause i get the message that say "The system is too hot please turn it off for a while"

  • is it just me or the mobo looks gigantic?

  • did you repaste the fan squares, the gpu and cpu block things where your fan is, i hope you know what im talkin bout

  • So always i can just put out the mother board, put in some box and just cool it by fans xD

  • When his mother-in-laws voice came in it would have been priceless if he looked up and shouted "STFU BITCH I'M DOING SCIENCE!"

  • Will I lose all of my memory when I take out the backup power? (40 gig PS3)

  • @shootemup081 You will lose the date and time, which you will have to re do. If you keep the backup power out, you will have to set the time and day, every time you start the PS3, plus all your settings for theme, and system will revert to default every time you start.

  • @gamelinx

will you lost your gamesavs, all stuff on your harddrive?

how do backup your ps3 gamesaves, everthing?

  • @shootemup081 watever u not gone lose ne of ur game saves if thats wat ur asking however if the ps3 keeps ylod during game play over time it could cause sum problems 4u but no u wont lose ur data after u unplug the bac up power supply

  • what % i have to get ylod in my ps3 slim?????

  • @superboy12396 I read the new slim might have a 4-7% chance. So that is a pretty "slim" chance? hehe...

  • @gamelinx omg, i just had my ps3 for a month, and it has the YLOD now. i just woke up to play and now i cant anymore. absolute bullshit !!! breaks too fast.

  • My PS3 (60gb) kicks in in third speed after 30 min of playing GTA IV...it doesnt gets too hot and the air that blows is usually a little bit hot..should i apply new thermal paste??

  • @miguelon918 as long as you don't have YLOD you are ok. I would backup your systems game saves, and PSX game saves, just in case.

  • use the low setting of 700*F, do not use the high setting of 1000*F for those of you wondering about the temps. Ive done this twice and has worked both times.

  • 700 to 1000?! Er, I doubt it, even at Fahrenheit, that will just utterly roast the chips. Is it 700 to 1000 watts you mean?

  • excuse me whats the thing do you put on the cell broad bandengine?

  • Do not Play Your PS3 fats Online. Get a Slim.

  • I have the same problem. But it is more then 150 dollars you have to pay. You also have to pay for shipment and it all adds about 188 bucks! New PS3 with 120 GB are only 300 dollars and the 40 GB you find it for 200 dollars. I am only fixing it so I can save all my data. I know it will break again. Thank you very much gamelinx for your video. It was very well done.

  • it over heated so lets overheat it some more to fix it? i just don't get it.

  • @Dreamst8r neither do I, but it does work.

  • @black00civic my only worked for like 30min then I turned it off for the night and I went to play in the morning and it ylod'd again :(

  • @Dreamst8r mine worked for a few months and now ylod again. It did work but I guess the length varies for others. I just dont wanna keep doing this so I'm switching to the slim hoping I doesnt have the same problems.

  • @black00civic that's exactly what i'm doing. get the slim and you'll have to dust less as well :)

  • @Dreamst8r nice. data transfer took some time, I had to start it and go to bed and then check on it in the morning. cant wait to play again. busy week.

  • 700-1000 heat huh?!?... Exactly how much is that in kelvin?

  • Haha I understood what your mother in law said, she's speaking Cambodian lol!

  • is there any video which shows the screws?

it makes me crazy, where to put them back.

  • HAIRDRYERS DONT WORK; use the heat gun like he did...

    Hairdryer: 100 degrees

    Heat gun: 1000 degrees

    (keep around 700 tho)

  • uh i think i'll just send it to sony LOL!!

  • shit what the hell would I do with a heat gun after this process is done? imma try this with the blow dryer and see if it works.

  • It won't work with a blow dryer

  • can i use hairdryer?

  • (thunder rumbling in the distance) No! lol... its not hot enough...

  • Yes you can. You just need to heat it up for at least 5-10 minutes. Ive fixed 3 this way!

  • Have you taken apart a Slim? I'm curious, what do you think about the Slim VS the Older PS3's as far as construction?

  • construcion? idk

all i know is that the fat 60 gig release model is the best model you could get but their nott around anymore ...

slim's are more advanced than the shitty 40 and new 80 gig ones

  • @PersianLord1995 my fat 60 gig ps3 just got this yellow light thing.

  • Hey guys i ordered call of duty modern warefare 2 but i got the ylod today. What am i suppose to do. I am out of warranty and this looks hard to fix. I might try it out if i do how long will it last with fluxing it and thermal compounding it. I have brothers that play 8 hours a day on it. So should i send it to sony and pay them 150 bucks or should i fix it myself. Plese help me by replying to my comment or sending my a private message.

  • this will happen to again no matter what thermal paste you use the ylod is cause of over heating it will over heat again

  • do all four little squares need to be covered in thermal comound

  • No. Only 2 squares. CPU and GPU. You will know which ones need the thermal compound, by seeing which ones have compound on them when you open up your system. Those 2 processors are the only ones that have thermal contact with the cooling unit fan.

  • Generally your CPU and GPU are in the center in the motherboard, side by side

  • He's doing this on a carpet and touching the parts with bare hands? Isnt that a rick of getting an electrostatic dishcharge? Or maybe thats not carpet i was watching this from my phone

  • A really bad video quality. My Kodak made it blurry. This was done in my garage, on concrete. Concrete is good with the heat gun, lol. Touching the motherboard is not bad, as long as you touch something to ground your body, if you had static, you would feel a shock when it leaves you.

  • how much did the heat gun cost

  • Home Depot $60, and Sears $30.

  • i just got one at lowes for $20, but i asked them about thermal paste they said theyd never heard of it, any tips. Hopefully i can get this to work becuase i just got Assassins Creed 2 and it got the yellow light of death before i got to play it

  • Another name for it is "Thermal grease" and it will make sense to someone that works in Radio Shack, or Fry's Electronics. That paste will cost about $10 for the expensive 99% silver compound.

  • damn all mines thermal paste gone fuk im mean there aint tht much left on the thing but good shit bro 5*

  • also other question when it starting to work again did all your stuff erase like games, pics, music, themes, and game saved data ?

  • Nope, it booted up, and everything was the same, the only thing I had to do was set the time again, as if it was a new PS3. All your game saves and data should be backed up after you get it working again, just to be on the safe side.

  • good shit do u think you can write me back the tools i need cuz my shit broke today

  • Sure, I will add it in the description, because I know I will get a grip of requests for this. Check the description.

  • Long Video, lol, thanks for posting this!
