  • Very good movie once i become old enough to understand it. MY father is Drew Stephens, i still have the stage jacket that they wore on set.

  • Those shower scenes are worse than any horror movie I ever saw and I have seen some bad ones!

  • i love her mulitlingual accents in various movies. One of my favorites of hers is STILL OF THE NIGHT. Her character in that movie is a far cry from Karen Silkwood.

  • driving back from fall river, i saw a cooling tower being constructed...

  • "What would Karen Silkwood say?" Someone had to ask that question, and it was you Gil Scott Heron. RIP brother.

  • I just her in the movie Sophie's Choice...I think she is the greatest actress ever..i never really get moved by movies but Meryl Streep is the only actress that can move me like no other...she deserves at least 5 Oscars.

  • Meryl Streep has portrayed some of the best roles through her career!

  • I love lesbian movies. 8)

  • omgsh...I used to watch this with my mom! I really didn't understand it when I was little, lol. I kinda just used to play with hr hair and glance up every few minutes at the tv. But yes....Meryl Streep and Cher...<3 them!!!

  • She's the best actress in our time

  • i saw this film when i was 14 and still cannot watch it without skipping the decontamination scenes.both me and my sister can only remember that shower hose and scrubbing brushes.brilliant and chilling film

  • this was a very good movie

very emotional and powerful (like many of you have said)

    the ending was so sad

i watched the trailer first but after i started watching the movie i totally forgot that Karen (Meryl) was going to die....the ending caught me by surprise....and the song that Meryl Streep sang at the end was mind blowing....so sad and emotional...

  • @alemeyo Thanks for spoiling it for me. Faggot.

  • @KinguNoKin you're very welcome

  • Kinda

  • It's kinda cool bc I live where this took place.

  • @sluggo06 that sucks. shits in the middle of nowhere.

  • whats is the story?????????????

  • My brother works in a nuclear facility Indian point to be exact and he's been contaiminated a few times, they have it marked on the floor and where you cant go and he stepped out of the marking on the floor a few times. Also the security there is a joke and you dont need clearence to fly above it.if a plane crashed there you could say good-bye to upstate N.Y,thats scary in my book

  • ive read the book in school, like it. wanna see the movie!

  • @MeikeYippee I can't find the book anywhere... is it called "Silkwood" or something else???

  • @iLoveYouMeryl no its called "The death of Karen Silkwood"

  • What is the title of the Background song?

  • A union activist and agitator. She self-contaminated herself with Plutonium. Large particles of plutonium were found in her bronchi, but not in her alevoli. No contamination in her digestive tract, which would have been the case if she were exposed to damaging micron-scale Plutonium dust. Instead, she self-contaminated herself, got drunk and stoned, then passed out behind the wheel.

Also, for the "corporations are evil" people, it is time you moved on to reality.

  • @Triethylborane Sounds like you work for the nuclear industry.

  • okay, I totally grew up in tulsa, oklahoma and I have never heard of this film or kerr-mcgee corporation...i didn't even know we had nuclear co. there ever! lots of natural gas ones...if this was such a big deal how come it was never mentioned in the news the past 18 years of my life? You think they would bring it up annually or something if they made a movie abt it. I remember when Twister came out...that was a big deal in Oklahoma.

  • @RdtheLiterature you're so stupid its funny

  • @335878 Hope you got a good laugh out of it....asshole

  • @RdtheLiterature

Go to your local library and look it up or google her name on-line.

You will find numerous interviews from people who knew her.

Kerr-McGee settled out of court with her family for a undisclosed amount.

She was killed for standing up for her beliefs and wanting to protect the world from nuclear contamination.

RIP and TY for all you gave up to try to save the world.

  • @happymike44 I did...it blew my mind...I never new that crap happened in Oklahoma.

  • @RdtheLiterature In okemah right?

  • Correction, to last post. It was two weeks after The China Syndrome movie came out that three mile island ocured. That's just aweful. The firefighters and police trying to put out the partial meltdown fire all died from radiation, they thought it was an ordinary fire. Secrets can be very sick. It's all in the open now. Just google Three Mile Island.

  • I just saw a special on tv about movies that shook the world. Two weeks after this movie came out, three mile island in America, had a partial meltdown. Many firefighters and oficials died. Just google Three Mile Island. You can't see RadioActivity/Radiation, but it kills a slow painful death. And to this day, the Nuclear Wast is just buried and dumped in the oceans. Nuclear is great. But we're not ready for it. That's very obvious to everyone.

  • I remember this it was in the next town over from here kingfisher Okla, It was in crescent Okla.

  • brilliant film..it reminds me a bit of The China Syndrome...another brilliant film!

  • Corporations are evil!!!! Seeming as you lot people see communsm as evil how can you not see corportations as eveil - communism is one big corportation!

But no you carrying on adoring your corportations while they pay you hal what your worth and charge double what thier product is worth. haha

  • film bellissimo da rivedere........

  • i like meryl's hairstyle! BEAUTIFUL!

  • this movie is really good, it is really powerful and scary at times especially in the clip at 1:49. Meryl you were great in this movie. we love you!! ;-)

  • Very powerful film, both emotional and frightening at times.

In case anyone is curious, Karen Silkwood's family sued Kerr-McGee and got Gerry Spence to represent them pro bono. They won and the court ordered Kerr-McGee to pay $10.5 million to the Silkwood family.

  • Even so, Kerr-McGee denied any liability. The area where the plant was located is STILL being decontaminated, even though the plant was closed down years ago.

  • Kerr-McGee appealed. Case was settled, out of court, in 1984. Silkwood Estate (her kids) got 1.38 million. Kerr-McGee never admitted fault. The site will be decontaminated by 2017.

  • DOLLY PELLIKER!

  • It's a FANTASTIC movie! One of the bests!

I love it, and Meryl is so beautiful in it!

  • love this movie

damn meryl streep smokes a shed load of cigarettes in it lol

  • Why is someone thumb's downing all the comments on this site?

  • Kurt Russell was soooo hot in this film!

  • Especially when his fly was down! 0:33

  • Meryl is great in this movie as usually

  • I love this movie,

I cried when I first watched it,

Meryl is THE BEST, though she disagrees....

    gotta love her!

  • could someone upload this movie to youtube, please?

  • It's already up

  • devieron recurrir a Ramón Valdez y a Carlos Villagran para que hubiesen actuado en esta pelicula, aunque nadamas fuera de personajes secundarios.

  • yeah it counts..awesome!

  • good, well I'll send you an invite then lol

  • love this movie.

  • i cant beleive she died :P

My money is on someone who worked at the plant killed her x

  • There is ample evidence that she was done in, and that she was contaminated by someone at the plant. That Company had extremely lax safety standards-the site where the plant once stood is still being decontaminated.

  • saw this in science class... good movie

  • How come everyone else gets to see Meryl Streep movies in school. God, all we watch in my school are animated disney movies. ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!!

  • this has got to be one of meryl streeps best films.its based on true events, has drama, bit of romance, and for me the most harrowing shower scenes i have seen, which i still cannot watch.powerful stuff, especially the ending.

  • i remember seeing this movie as a kid at the theater. didn't really understand what was going on though since i was pretty young. i was recently reading about this incident (movie is based on a true story) online. i need to add it to my netflix queue.

  • Love this film!

  • I LOVE MERYL STREEP!!!!!hey am i the only one who's 13

  • i'm 13

  • Same here.

  • parece buena la peli, gracias x subir el trailer :D

  • When I first saw this movie, it was one of the first R rated movies I saw first run. This movie BLEW me away. At this movie, I decided Streep was to be my favorie actress (present, all time has to be Bette Davis). She hasn't let me down yet. I even liked She-Devil for god's sake!!!

  • Was Meryl pregnant when she made this movie?

  • yep thats what she said to regis and kelly anyways lol

  • Amazing movie! Meryl is just so GREAT!

  • ah..i love meryl and this film but the end of the trailer sums up the entire film for me...the whole time i was i had this unsettled feeling in the pit of my stomach! P.S wasnt meryl rendition of amazing grace just beautiful, i like it so much i downloaded it for my ipod!

  • A fantasticly beautiful film!!!!! five stars!!!

  • Meryl Streep is fantastic!! Best actress ever...!!

  • Streep is a bloody good actress. The more films I see her in, the more impressed I am by her.

  • @dollydot123 I agree. She can make you hate and love her.

  • Who killed Silkwood?

  • Obviously the people who wanted her silenced, her employer. She found out stuff, tried to do the right thing and they killed her! Tyhey all get to keep thier jobs, brand her as a looney or misguided fool(take your pick) ...

    Yes, it stinks!

    J

  • This is my favorite Meryl Streep film. (and my 2nd favorite Streep performance). I just love it because Mike Nichols did an amazing job of capturing the atmosphere of this type of place. It felt authentic to me. And Streep, Cher and Kurt Russell are all famous actors but they manage to lose themselves in their characters.

  • Great movie insired by actural events

  • Craig T Nelson and Cher were one of the costars,Cher played a lesbian and Ron Silver played a reporter!!!

  • Please tell me who sang the song in the movie "Amazing Grace". I wonder if it was actually Meryl Steep sing it?

    Thank You-

  • yes it was Meryl's angelic voice.

  • couldn't have said it any better.

    ilovemerylstreep.

  • yes, she used to sing opra when she was much younger

  • This is damn good movie, but it IS a Mike Nichols film! :) Streep is, as usual, amazing in it, but this is really a different type of role for her, I think. Karen Silkwood is virtuous in some ways but less so in others and Streep nails these complexities. Cher and Kurt Russell add magnificent support.

  • It was a good film. brilliant.

    Her death a accident?!

    I dont think so!

That was set up by some goverment agancie.

    Damo

  • I liked the movie, but a lot of it was fiction. The woman the Cher character was based on was just a roommate; she and Karen had no close relationship at all and she was not in love with Karen. Drew was not a one man woman; he and Karen had an "open" relationship. He was not exclusively devoted to Karen like in the movie. He slept with other women whenever he felt like it.

  • This was such a powerful film. It was well cast.

  • Amazing film.

  • i hope to get this film for christmas.

  • so its been a year sence u asked this question.... did u get it for christmas?

  • this is such a great film but kinda scary
