  • There is nothing like a banjo. Awesome playing, man.

  • This is insane. I wish my dad was as cool as you.

You should play some Bob Dylan covers. :)

  • @MrRDizzle79 thank You..

  • Good on ya.....

  • wow i love this. hope you have a happy new year and that ya had good holidays. hope you and yours are in good health and spirits :)

  • @graiypz Thank You very much. You too!

  • just out of curiosity, would you happen to know if this Elmer Stromberg was a Swedish immigrant? (Strömberg)

    cheers from Sweden!

  • @guttfunk I don't know but Vinny Mondello has a web site all about Stromberg banjos with a lot of historical data. You might find out there.. Just Google Stromberg Banjo

  • @guttfunk His father Charles was. You can read some of their story here - 4stringbanjos

  • nice banjo

  • There's another song I need to learn from ya...... 2 1/2 weeks since I've been watchin yer basics.....I'll have rocky top soon.

  • @denrizza I've got a real easy version of Wayfaring Stranger in my videos. With a different tuning, it's not too hard to play. Search my vids and it should pop up.

  • Thank you. Please carry on.

  • Just Perfect!!!

  • amazing, without a doubt the most qualtiy instrument i have ever seen or played.

  • Yea, she's amazing..

  • I really like the sound of this banjo. Very distinct. Adds a whole new feeling to the song.

  • That's an amazing banjo.. I've changed the head on it since this vid, and actually have another head I'm going to try on it that I just got.. Love to play with these things..

  • Do you use that same Cminor tuning GCGCF?

  • I'm not sure what tuning exactly 'cause I tend to just tune to what sounds right to my ear, but it's basically some variation of relative G which would be GDGBD but perhaps capoed up or maybe not, depending on the mood, the shade of the clouds, and the alignment of the planets when I tuned it...

  • I see. I'll figure it out - the tuning that is. Also I'm curious what tuning you use on the "Constant Sorrow" gas can video.

  • You've got a lot of skill :)

  • Thank ya neighbor...

  • great! greets from brazil!

  • Thank You distant neighbor..

  • And do us all a favor, and keep that gas can off the self colectin dust.

  • Okay, will do! Thanks!

  • I enjoyed the Story, thx

  • very nice to find 1 of those and you play it very well . I play guitar but mostly watch and listen any more. Built a couple the past few years , a lapsteel and a eletric 3 string dulcimer . just something todo .

  • I would like to build some 3 string instruments. Been lookin' 'em over but haven't had time to try makin' one yet. Thanks for the comment..

  • Beautiful sound! thanks for bringing this back to life. Thanks for the history lesson. Say thanks to George also

  • Yea, I need to track George down again soon. Will do..

  • Great sound and wonderful version of Poor Wayfairing Stranger . Thanks as always , guy

  • Thank You..

  • great stuff, my friend! I'm watcing and listening from Australia and I am enjoying your talent. Cheers!

  • Thank you!

  • any type of music, that is solo, one, sweet> I have two old tenor jo's > need work, so needle sewing thread...

  • I agree, that does have a lovely tone, looking forward to the clear head vid. Yes you tube are annoying not allowing links, but if you put spaces after all the full stops in the URL it should post ok

thanks for all the good vids

  • Geez.... that thing DOES sound great . I can only imagine what recording it from a close range onto a hi-quality condenser Mic would sound like.( not being aware of what Mr Peeks' set up is, of course!)

Wondering what it is about these banjos that is so special, construction-wise..obviously the Brass ring has a lot to do w/ it, no?

  • I have a clear plastic head special ordered for it. When it comes and I get it on here, you can see all the little bells inside it. Only tone ring I know of to ever have been made exactly like this. She's quite a beauty.. The plastic head should brighten up the sound a bit more too..

  • wow. beautiful.

  • Your idea of making a cuppa-phone type ring from .45 shells is intriguing. I've scoured the net for images of one, but still don't have a real good idea of how they are put together. Cut out the center of the cymbal, to make a roughly 11-12 inch flat-washer, I imagine, and then put the shells on top. What about the outer diameter of the tonering, and the surface to support the head? I like the idea...and if you can help me figure out what it should look like, I think I'll go ahead and do it.

  • For some reason youtube won't let me paste the url of the Stromberg site, but do a search on : Stromberg Deluxe

Dedicated to the memory of Chas A.,and Elmer Stromberg and see if Vinnie's site doesn't pop up. He's down in Texas and has just about cornered the market on old Strombergs. Guess his Dad knew the Strombergs and were jaz musicians. Fascinating web page if you can find it, and lots of photos...

  • I've got another one I'm going to make out of a brass serving tray and some 357 shells.. Nothing can match the quality or tone of a Stromberg, but I've got one in the back of my old Lyon & Healey and just love that banjo..

  • I also linked a vid of me playing the Lyon & Healey with the home made ring.

  • I sooo enjoy banjo music...if you're having a bad day then listening to banjo music brightens it up instantly :)

  • Does do that. It keeps me sane...

  • I ended up addin this to my favourites. Good sounds my friend.

    Greetings from the ole world!

  • Thank you! Greetings back to ya..

  • wooohooo! you brought joy into my life! thanks!

  • Betcha! Thank you..

  • R, I really enjoyed the video and it's good to know I'm not the only Stromberger around. Thanks for the info on getting a video on. I'll give it a shot when my son gets up here with his camera. I'll give you a Wayfaring Stranger back with a verse my grandaddy used to sing.

  • Awesome! Can't wait to see it. Thanks.

  • Wow. thats really nice, you should try a tambourine banjo those sound nice if you get a good tambourine

  • I've been meaning to get one, but.... so many banjos, so little time. Thanks.

  • I know nothing about banjos, or playing musical instruments in general, but I love listening to your videos. Thanks for posting them!

  • Thanks. I have lots of fun with this stuff..

  • it just sounds so beautiful and pleasant!

  • thats beautiful. man i gotta learn to play

  • wow, thats nice brother.

    I love this song.

  • I think someone should get a recording microphone for christmas so we can appreciate his true banjo skill and the banjo's amazing sound. Simply beautiful.

  • Rpeek, kudos to you! Younger guy here who is really fond of banjos had a chance to attent to a nice banjo show in VA a few years ago and i have got to see some great stuff there....but you sure kick ass, keep up with the videos. Nothing better than a nice looking talented older guy playing a banjo.

    cheers!

  • Thanks. I think that banjo show is going on again next week. Guy I got the banjo from is going. Thanks for the comment.

  • Great sounds.

  • Absolutely beautiful banjo and banjo flailing!

Thank you very much for this. I would say that this banjo is in the right hands.

  • Thanks Lew..
