it's definitely 'cream' - as in oh to be the cream of the crop.
i always heard it as 'all we ever got was coal'. there used to be a UK joke about old people complaining that when they were little, they got a piece of coal for christmas. i guess i heard the follow up of 'get up, eat jelly' as a birthday/christmas party.
bauhaus were never one of my absolute favourites, but this is still fucking great all these years later.
