This is probably the best episode of Red dwarf I ever saw! Which means that its possibly one of the best episodes of anything ever seen on T.V as Red Dwarf in general is pretty damn fine (until Kochansky gets involved, then it goes all pants, but they do redeem themselves in the next series when they get incarcerated on nanoed Red dwarf). Possibly the only other episode to compare with this is Queeg from the first series, as that had a brilliant ending and build up.

@BelatedCommiseration I agree. I think Chris Barrie (Rimmer) had other contracts to fulfill which was why he left suddenly in series 7. They then brought in Kochansky as a replacement but she sucked. It wasn't just her personally but nobody was going to be able to replace Rimmer. Rimmer was the glue to the show. Most of the jokes were either a direct or indirect result of him. I can remember feeling kind of sad/let down when Rimmer left and then excited when I knew he'd be back in series 8.

Rimmer was a big part of that show and it became blatant when he left. Kochansky imo wasn't funny at all. She was more silly than anything else. Rimmer is what gave the show that ironic humour which is what made it so appealing. Some people think series 8 was weak and maybe it was compared to the first 6 series but I liked Krytie TV and a couple of other S8 episodes. If they make a series 10 then they need to pay attention to what the fans want i.e. more of the first 6 series.

@TheARMAProductions I just wish they had chosen an actress who could do comedy. The actress they got was too wooden and seemed to have something else wooden up her proverbial posterior the whole time. They should have got a scouser actress like they had originally or, although this may be a bit infeasable, Jane Leeves who was the version of Holly in the abortive american pilot and the only salvageable performance. She can obviously do comedy, but she may be a bit big league now for the dwarf.

Red Dwarf is repeated all the time on Dave (the TV channel) isn't it?It's either Red Dwarf or Top Gear. It's usually Top Gear but i have seen Red Dwarf on there a couple of times.

Pretty much like you'd expect. Red Dwarf, in my opinion was better in the early series, with series 8 being the worst.

The new episodes pretty much try to cap the story off but aren't as funny as the classics but some of the originallity is still there although if you're hoping they're as good as the old ones, you may be dissapointed.

Cat didnt have so much of a prominent role in terms of story's, asin there was never an episode that really focused on him.

One was written and put on storyboards etc but never filmed, its read by Chris Barrie on one of the DVD's

Im sure Ive heard a lot of times people say that Cat didnt have as much a role in certain series of Red Dwarf, but I think this is a perfect example of when his character shines. I can think of quite a few occasions where Cat delivers a joke right at the perfect time, and that without it, certain dialogue would have just finished on a down note.
