When you are right up next to a grizzly, with no zoo bars between you, no handgun feels big enough. Just remember to save that last bullet if the first 5 don't do the trick.
I have an Alaskan 454 also and I can't get it clean.Do you know any good product to clean the powder residue ? I use Sweet's 7.62 which is great on my semi autos but not working on this gun.
@rattlesnakerocker I also had this problem with my .500 smith and wesson. especially when I used the high powered lead loads with lots of powder inside... now I mirror-polished the gun and its way easier to clean it! otherwise its almost impossible to clean it perfectly unless you want to clean it for 5 hours ;)
overall do you like the gun? Im really interessted in also buying this lil monster! shes so beautiful and mean at the same time...
@490Dodesheide Love the gun .It never fails to get comments at the range. People don't expect what is coming when they see such a small package. They think it's a 38 special and then ,BOOM! Get the Birchwood Casey lead remover and polishing cloth, it takes the residue right off. Someone gave me that tip and it was gold.
@feenix110998 yeah youre right, its like a wolf in sheeps clothing. but if you look close it is also huge. but if you look at it from above its very very very wide! I mean if you have it in your hands you know it aint no 38 special. Its gotta be something massive in a "small" package and thats what it actually is! I also like the finish. Its one single piece of gun. not sticked together but more made out of one piece of steel! Look at my chrome smith .500 with wood grips at my channel ;)
@grizz474 well slightly. he is bringing the gun up rather than trying to fight the recoil and have it snap back and hit him in the face. I have heard guys on the forums say that this gun will destroy your wrists over time and it is not fun to shoot.
Howd you guys compare the recoil of this ruger 454 alaskan to a .500 sw. I own the .500 sw with the 4 inch short barrel and it kicks quite hard. I did not shoot the alaskan up to now but im really wondering how it is in comparison to a short 500
@490dodesheide I own both and the Alaskan equal to bit more felt recoil. The Alaskans about a pound lighter then a 4" 500.

accuracy goes to shit when you bow your elbows...like when you exaggerate recoil for instance...

The recoil isn't that bad it's manageable. They are awesome guns I have a 7.5" version in target grey. Check out my video sometime

Sweets is a copper remover. You don't need it on a handgun.
Use regular old Hoppes to scrub it and use Flitz on the face of the cylinder and inside of the straps.

It doesn't look like the recoil is that bad. Maybe it feels stronger than it looks

@grizz474 really? you can see the shock running up his arm what did you want him to fall on his ass or something?
koobsw 1 year ago
@koobsw No, It looks like he's exaggerating his arm movements. It doesn't look like that to you?

Shooting my Alaskan is like holding a 2X4 straight up in the air and letting someone smack it with a bat. And I love it!
