The F40 is a pure sports car, as in mid-engine (rear weight bias) and 2,400 lb and 478 hp.
(BTW, granted F40's cost $400,000, but used 348 run as low as $39,000, which is within reason.)

Im no ferrari designer, but this is not one of their best works. The new F450 renderings seem to be taking notes on this cars ugly unfortunately.
The added weight of the retractable hard top gives the car a nearly perfect 50/50 weight balance. In addition, the larger rear deck improves aerodynamics and comfort by creating a more convertible-friendly air bubble, even at high speeds. The new fuel-injected 4.3 V8 is clean, and averages 21mpg. All in all, they have created a beautiful car, that handles great, goes fast, is comfortable to drive, and sounds awesome.
I do like the route they're going down though, I would compromise a few km/h off the clock for the automatic hardtop convertible.
The front end is nice, but the rear end is a monster lol, I really liked the seethrough glass cabin that houses the engine in the F430, which will obviously be gone here lol.
To be honest, if the F430 Spyder had a few extra milliseconds on the acceleration, and a better media screen, and that hardtop manual roof, then it would be better in every way.
It's not long enough, which makes it look all fat lol.
They did a good job of what they set out to do, make an accessible Ferrari. It is nice to have a little extra room, 4 seats, auto convertible, etc.
You gotta admit lol, if it looked exactly the same as the F430 we would be shitting bricks lol.
It's a much needed move forward, but it's not quite there yet, wait for a "special edition" of the F430, or a F450 or something, that incorps all these features.
I love this car. The back of the car could have been better with dual tail lights I think but the rest of the car is perfection. It is pretty quick for a car with a retractable hardtop too. Way to go Ferrari.

After the development of the Quattroporte and the GranTurismo FIAT re-took control of Maserati before Ferrari could make the GranTurismo into a spyder. Ferrari kept the spyder design so you get a Maserati GranTurismo Spyder with a prancing horse and a cost of 100k more. In fairness, the GranTurismo (with a little more power) is a hell of a car
The California name became from the 1957 and facelifted 1960, when ferrari created 250 GT California Spider. It was cabrio for USA and it was one of most beautiful and successful car. Anyway, I still think that ferrari price is innormaly high!
Sigh, what makes me mad is that we can't design our own cars. I mean, I love Ferrari and most of their designs, but this one just scores a B- for me. The rear is ugly, the rest of the car is kinda bland. The most beautiful of all Ferrari's in my opinion is the 308 GTBI Quattrovalvole.

They did a good job of what they set out to do, make an accessible Ferrari. It is nice to have a little extra room, 4 seats, auto convertible, etc.
You gotta admit lol, if it looked exactly the same as the F430 we would be shitting bricks lol.
It's a much needed move forward, but it's not quite there yet, wait for a "special edition" of the F430, or a F450 or something, that incorps all these features.
That would be epic.

I love this car. The back of the car could have been better with dual tail lights I think but the rest of the car is perfection. It is pretty quick for a car with a retractable hardtop too. Way to go Ferrari.

this ferrari has a different meaning....its not a shouting supercar like a f430 or a 599.Its meant to have something that other exotic cars dont have.Its still stunning if you see one on the street,and a comparison with a SL63 is just ridiculous.

The 612 may not be sold out in shithole america but in the rest of the world it is. In Australasia & the UK there's been a 2-3 year waiting list to get one. Second of all Lambo is now producing cars which are faster, better looking, & more reliable than ferrari, the advent of the california has also now granted lambo exclusivity. All Ferraris since the 360 have sold out for 2 years even before production has started, Ferrari could produce a $500k tricycle and it would probably sell out for 2 years but that alone doesn't mean it would be fantastic. I too have read articles from magazines which have ripped it to shreds, it sure is interesting that Ferrari is refusing to release its lap time from around their test track... lol if u want a more focused hard core ferrari they will continue to make cars like the scuderia so u can get one of those. in the meantime, if someone was in the market for a great folding hard top convertible, they now have a great ferrari option as opposed to the usual astons and merc sl's. btw i think the cayenne only 'destroyed' porsche's brand in your eyes. the rest of us still realise they make the cayman and 911's.

they were sort of forced into it. FIAT owns ferrari and maserati. At the time, ferrari was in control of maserati and made a viable luxury/sport car. After the development of the Quattroporte and the GranTurismo FIAT re-took control of Maserati before Ferrari could make the GranTurismo into a spyder. Ferrari kept the spyder design so you get a Maserati GranTurismo Spyder with a prancing horse and a cost of 100k more. In fairness, the GranTurismo (with a little more power) is a hell of a car

The California name became from the 1957 and facelifted 1960, when ferrari created 250 GT California Spider. It was cabrio for USA and it was one of most beautiful and successful car. Anyway, I still think that ferrari price is innormaly high!

Sigh, what makes me mad is that we can't design our own cars. I mean, I love Ferrari and most of their designs, but this one just scores a B- for me. The rear is ugly, the rest of the car is kinda bland. The most beautiful of all Ferrari's in my opinion is the 308 GTBI Quattrovalvole.
