  • inspiring video! maybe one day id be a cop

  • Wow... the one thing you notice is that these guys sure cant keep their hands off each other

  • Well Done - Excellent Team Work

  • Hey, Im looking into becoming a police officer and i have a few questions. Can I enter when im 18? I wear Contacts is that a issue? What are the physical and theory side of things like?

All the information i can get would be nice thanks.

    great video A+

  • Hey im 18 years old female whats the possiblilty that they will take in my app? Good health record except wear contacts and on a restricted license

  • I have dyslexia but seriously thinking about joining NZ police. Could someone please tell if I have a chance to pass academic tests considering the time frames? Is there any extra time for dyslectic people like they do it on Uni's?

  • Hey does anyone know that guys name at 4:15? I work at lounge bar in auckland and he always stops by and talks to us.. Man i can't wait to go down to welly

  • @ReGgAeViBe69 His name might be ben. Looks like the guy who was a high school with us.

  • Have any of you guys done the training while you have kids? How did they cope with you being away so long?

  • could someone please tell me how difficult the academic tests are i am ex new zealand navy an did the entrance tests for them (which where basic for me)andwas wondering if my ex navy exp. will aid in my applacation at all. thanks:)

  • The theory is pretty basic stuff dude. With ex Navy exp. you should be fine. The killer would be staying motivated. I mean there is a bar on site and then theres the female recruits. Just got to make sure you don't fall into the same trap alot of others have.

  • Mate, the tests are not that difficult, but having said that I had to study for them because it had been such a long time since I had done any tests of that nature, I joined at age 42. I'm ex Navy as well and I believe it helped me get through College.

    Wing 238, Chur Chur.

  • Hi, nice video. Just wandering how long usually does it take from the time you go to the seminar to the time you can start the college ? Thanks.

  • Depends on where you want to be based. Counties Manukau are having a big recruitment drive. I took me start of process to end. 6 months

  • Much respect to anyone who joins the NZ Police. These boys and girls are the real heros of this country.

I want to join.........but I have a fat ass (oops - sorry, I meant to say that I'm a tadd overweight).

  • just signed up the other day, really looking forward to joining the force. my old man is already there so he can show me the ropes :)

  • i dreamed of becoming a cop, but sadly i am epileptic, so i wasnt accepted....that sucks!!! even had a doctor say i was ok for the job (no seizures in 12 years)

  • at 1.06 ....i can imagine the 2 on the left in cop uniforms!!!!....what is it with the NZ police uniform being so friggin yummy!!!...(only on men) lol

  • would you mind telling me how many recruits did not pass the college during your studies?

  • In a wing of 40 we had 2 drop out but I am unsure how many failed - they offer classes for peopel that fail to help them through the process though. As long as you are motivated to learn, the instructors will help you.

I should mention the 2 that dropped out were for various personal reasons however.

  • Iam looking at moving to auckland i know i need to get my resident but after that would not mind joining the police

  • @24brix can you tell me please..i am living in new zealand..i am from azerbaijan..english is not my 1 st language..how heavy is verbal and numerical test? onlythis wondering me..will they help if they know english is not 1 language?

  • Hey guys one question. I am currently working full time and Im just wondering would I have to resign before I do the whole seminar and scope tests?

I mean can I still work until I know Ive made the recruitment squad and do the final test in wellington?

  • no you only resign from your cuurent job when you know when your wing starts at college - SCOPE etc is done while working in your current job.

  • Lol thanks for the info, nah wouldnt have a problem with that...im a girl but work in crazy busy suburb of dublin so think i could manage!...how many days leave a year u guys get??

  • Hey guys, im a cop in ireland last 6 years...seriously considering a move to nz police tho....am i mad?? Its big move and would love some advice! cheers :)

  • No your not mad...Lol. We have a good police force but one thing to keep in mind. If your put in somewhere like south auckland your job will be dealing with black power members and they are not nice guys to deal with....

  • You'd fit right in. There are heaps of guys who are ex Met and UK police. NZ did a big recruitment drive there a few years ago. Hang on.......you Micks don't necesarily like the English, do you.....Oh well, I am sure you would have lots to talk about....

  • What's that they are getting sprayed with? Is is pepper spray? They're in those white suits. Can you tell me what actually hurts them?

  • yea its pepper spray (OC spray) we wore the suits so it don't get on our cloths, as it can burn your skin, it also stops us contaminating anything else and meant we could only get it in our eyes (as it hurts really bad in the ear lol) its voluntary. its made of chillie peppers, so it just burns like crazy, I got it done at college and been hit a few other times on the job. its good stuff ay works a real treat.

  • So you don't have to be sprayed if you don't want to?

  • nope their only 6 out of 80 but trust me you will get it on the job

  • hey do you know what their policy is on tattoos? I was going to get a quote on my wrist but I didn't see anything in the book about that and the seminar is still a little way off. I've seen plenty of cops with tattoos but wasn't sure if it was any different being a female and all

  • So long as it isnt or offensive they are fine with it.

Lots of cops have visible tats

  • like the video, the police force is something i'm currently looking into and this provided some insight into the college which unfortunately they don't on the recruitment site so thanks!

  • Hey bro.... anything you want to know just ask. Had a heap of fun down there!! Lots of really great people, its so worth it!

  • Great video are you based in wellington?

  • yea about 25 min out, just passed Porirua.

  • Great Video !!! Does anyone out there know what sorts of things they teach you on the Police Recruit course? 19 weeks seems a long time. Once you've finished the course are you a fully fledged member of the Police? Can you arrest people and stuff, or do you do like a remand period until you become a full policeman? Anyone that can help thanks. Me an' a mate are thinking of signing on to do the college...and thanks again for the great clip.

  • once you have finshd your training you are a fully fledged member of the Police.

Im pretty sure that the 19 weeks at college will be jam packed with stuff to learn e.g fire arm training, driving and stuff there is soooo much

I have my interview in two week's!!

  • 19 weeks is not long enough, they are meant to be making it twice as long, you do two weeks on firearms and driving (about a week really as there is written stuff to do) but the time goes so fast and with so many cool people!! good luck with your interview bro, may see you out there!

  • Yea bro you can arrest as soon as you are a sworn officer, happen in the 1st week when I were there (meant to be changing to the last week) the 19 weeks goes so fast, so much to do, would go back and do it again if I could best time of my life. Once your out tho its so different! but still love the job, just lots of paper work

  • What was the age of the oldest recruit on your intake? I am up for testing in 3 weeks. I'm 46 and am feeling a bit nervous about being the course 'Old Bastard'.

  • umm I think he was 48, the oldest I know of was like 53-53, he was crazy fit tho and in very good shape. had a great time there ay, you will love it, where you want to get into?

  • I'm ex-army, so I am fairly fit - although I am struggling to get a decent RFL run time. I am going to South Auckland - everybody is, so I am told by the recruiters.

Test in about 3 weeks. Thanks for the reply.

  • Not a problem, lol good old south auckland.

I work at Henderson, silly cause they cutting our section from 18 down to 12, we don't have enough as it is and they cutting us back. very silly

  • Well, they reckon on having another 400+ recruits by years end, so maybe your section will get a top up. South Auck doesn't phase me, although it is a long way from where I live (Takapuna) and the crims out there all look like Jonah Lomu's big brother. Am hitting the gym hard to bulk up.......hope they give me a tazer....

  • lol bulk is nothing really, its the uniform. yea I still waiting for a taser, still at least a year away for me :( lol we got two guys per section at the moment.

  • Bulk is good. Visual deterent and all that....Oh, and low cunning. :).

Is Ildiko Elliot one of your mob? She worked with me just before joining up.

You have to wait a year for a taser?!! Bugger that! I have my own Glock 17 and an Ar15 (True). Think they'll let me use my own? I also drive a Ferrari (True also!), so that's the wheels sorted. All I need issued is a flashing blue light. Do you think arriving at Porirua in a Ferrari would be a good idea? lol.

  • P.S Was joking about taking the glock and AR15 to work.....just in case anyone thought I was a pysco....

  • I know the "nervous feeling" kiwitedferny, I'm 44 finished my tests and on the waiting list (could be up to 2yrs!) , more concerned about the study than the fitness side of things, school was a long time ago!

  • I had to wait 2 years for the demerit points on my license to be removed!!! I can't wait ANOTHER 2 years!

    Congratulations on passing your tests.

  • Bugger that sux! so then we might end up on the same wing? lol that would make me the "second oldest barsted!!" Im ex Air Despatch, hope some of those discipline's will come in handy.

  • It's possible! If I am to be 'The Oldest Bastard' - you will have to do what I tell you. LOL.

I was 51 AD Troop for a while when I got out of Grunts.

  • Yea sure and down the line it goes, its called delegating! haha I think you were there around 1988? same time as me your user name rang a bell

  • Yup. End of '88. Terminal posting. Couldn't wait to get out at that stage.

  • i'm waiting to go to the seminar in august and start the process, how was the academic tests?

  • The tests were ok, same as any test manage! and don't waste your time if your not sure on the answer, you can always go back, I did alot of online tests that I thought would help. good luck, its good to have it behined once your past it.

  • thanks, thats what ive been doing. numeracy is the only thing i will have trouble with so im hoping plenty of study will pay off not to mention a bit of swimming tuition!!

  • online I.Q tests! are good to get the brain working and if you google "free I.Q tests" it wont cost a cent, even the pre recruiting test on the NZ police website is a good one to gauge your process.

  • yea ive pretty much flogged the tests on the website to death, i cant do them anymore because ive memorised it all now. I tried getting the book suggested in the blue 'Preparing For Police Selection booklet, but the people havent returned them to the library so i'll give the iq tests a crack.

  • yeah the tests are really fast. You have about 5 seconds or so to read and answer each question in the first part of it.

  • Comment removed

  • idk im goin to the one on feb 17 in manukau have u been to one yet?

  • oh that was a great vid i really want to join bt have to wait another year to fet my full liscence so in the mean time im going to see what its like to be a communicator...icant wait until i get to go to the college!!

  • Awesome vid.. cant wait to go down myself for wing 256 in jan 09, nervous but looking forward to the challenge.

  • The bosses have banned all photography/filming at the college now. I guess that makes this vid a bit of a classic!! I just got back from Wing 254 and had a blast.

  • Random choice of song? considering most NZ Police will never even come close to the level of violence in Northern Ireland. Issuing traffic tickets and protecting people in a war zone are two different things.

  • Yeah it was a random choice of song!

  • northen ireland is shit

  • We don't just issue tickets....be thankful we don't have the level of violence of Northen Ireland. Don't take the song literally

  • No we don't have that level of violence...bombings the army fully armed...I definitely don't see that level of violence...Do you really see that...Or is this your way of having a crack at the Police?? Do you know the full events???

  • What a cheap shot! Comparing Northern Island and the tragedy of Halatau Naitoko makes no sense. They are not even closley related. Sitting in the stands is a very cosy safe place to be.

  • I think you'll find I'm actually quite well educated on firearms procedure, as I'm sure jabbogjat17 will verify, me and him have had a personal conversation, and both expressed objective opinions.

  • Great video, i've just been accepted, in fact i done my final fitness tests today, off to college in feb 09, which is to be wing 256. Can't wait.

  • What are the education requirements to join the New Zealand Police?

  • lvl 2 is recommended maths/english

  • I'm starting my process aswell.. but will be starting of slowly as i'm waiting for kiddies to start school.

  • I'm just starting the process now! Who ever is in my wing will have an annoying dude with a video camera!

  • Great video, waiting for my formal interview next week, I'm hanging out for college!!!

  • Then you'll be into your SCOPE. Where you doin your recruiting?

  • Auckland, SCOPE at Otahuhu. Cant wait!! You in already or recruiting?

  • nice stuff...i was in wing 241 and watching this bought back fond memories....Take care and good luck to all about to go down to the RNZPC,,,,Best job in the world...cheers :)and a quick tip....learn a few liabilites before going down lol

  • Great video 242s we did something similar for our wing. Just reminds me of all the good times... noticed you didn't get the bar in... that would of been funny! I loved college and still go back to see my Sergeants once a month! Stay safe out there!

  • is it hard and fun?

  • I was in wing 185. Police college seems like such a long time ago, but it wasn't really. After nine and a half years i still love this job but at times its a job i love to hate.

I had the time of my life at college.

  • Great vid, Great memories of NZ Police was in wing 146 and worked north island and south six years until moved to sunny Queensland, Now in Brisbane QPS. Love it after 9 years here. Better money and conditions but do miss Kiwi's style. Nz police over here all have hugh respect. Nadas (comment below) have heard of your name bro from mates who have worked down your way and as always with much respect for ex kiwi cops. THE BEST. Stay safe > best wishes to all NZ guys and girls !

  • WOW..Awesome memories. Part of section 2 wing 117. Now policing in Logan QLD. Miss the love from the brothers and sistas of RNZPS. Be safe everyone

    Nadas

  • Memories of good times for sure. The New Zealand Police is a great service, solid, great ethos. I made the huge mistake of leaving for the Queensland Police, not the same by any standard. It would appear that all services have their short commings, it's just a case of finding your niche I guess. The old saying goes, The grass is always greener where you water it the most! Take care mbj wing 167

  • Hello I'm in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Master at Arms Military Police. Just wanted to say I liked your video. Served in the Army as a MP before going over to the Navy. I remember getting sprayed in the eyes man did it hurt. Visited NZ last year for 3wks super country. Well be safe from your Brothers & Sisters Cops from the USA.

  • Nice vid! I start in less than 2 weeks wing 251. Can't wait! =D

  • take starch for your ironing! and ear plugs... and a healthy happy attitude. your Seargents watch you all the time and make notes on you (you see them when you leave).

you have alot of fun - but will never have been so busy or worked so hard in your life.

    have fun! smile lots!

  • Love the vid man, that should be me in about 2-3 months :D

  • What wing you with?? i'm 248

  • Hi all,

Love the video brings back alot of good memories. I'm a former South Auckland Cop wing 207 resigned 3 years ago personal reasons. Take care out there and dont give in to the heavy work load, we need you guys out there especially out southside. God Bless the boys/girls in blue. Isaiah

  • HA HA good ol Papakowhai... good times, good times

  • Word of advice everyone, police college doesn't reflect the true nature of the job. Nearly all the practicals aren't practical and %90 of the liabilities that you learn you will never come across them again on front line.

Be a real cop and challange yourself by posting yourself in the bronx of South Auckland!

  • hey 06ives, i garduated from police college last year an am based in waitemata district mainly working out of henderson police station, every one was saying that manukau had the longest waiting list to get into, but im glad im based at henderson, my home area an all, thanks for the post

  • Thats great, hope your enjoying yourself and working hard too. Its funny you say that regarding the waiting list because all you hear out here is that the sections are "under full strength". Always works out like that.

  • under full strength? over night shift apart from my senior we had one guy acting as sarge, me and one other guy. we 2 didnt have PA. that was it for the whole 7 night at Hutt. grrr.

  • I hear you. I Worked in a section that was supposed to be at 9 but running at 5 (including the serg) for several months. A couple times I turned up and I was the only one at work! Had to pull 2 other "I" cars from other areas causing a shortage else where. Still havent recovered from the paper work that I got burried in during those nights. Its familiar to many a cop and has happened to other guys in my section when ever someone pulled a sicky. Thats the circus that we're working in up here..

  • All those in the job or wanting to join check out this site. Quite a following already and a great resource for us wannabe's to tap into!

nzesf dot forumotion dot com / index dot htm

I have to break it up otherwise it won't let me post it.

  • Awesome video!

Better advertising to join up than any of the crap our bosses have come up with.

    Stevie

    Wing 175

  • Thanks mate! As you can guess I have only been in the job a few months but loving it :)

We had a good wing and good Sergeants - my hat goes off to them.

  • Youre a winner

  • Mean vid, im joning up this month hopefully.

  • Great vid. Thanks 24brix for posting. Been telling all me run group about this page. Pushes us to get our run times down. Scope next week. Final the following. Lookout 251, here I come. Thanks

  • you do your PCT and 2.4 k run again in your first week or so at college... then again in your last week and your times have to better than what you did in your first week or else you don't graduate! so keep runnng and have fun!

  • Have to run better then your first time :( that seems abit hard lol.

I guess I better get training. Thanks for the video mate. good luck to others.

  • Im pretty positive that at 4:15 thats a guy called ben, i did my scope with him at central in auckland. That guys cool as but still owes me a coffee!

  • hey i do my final pat on 22nd. so going well i am in wing 250. so should see

funkybananatree there. This vid just comfirms what I thought. college will be lot of hard work but a right laugh too

  • Good luck on your final mindvandal, hope to see you down at college

  • sorry, forgot to answer your question mindvandal about the wing size, i heard/rumoured that its going to be approximately 80 recruits (dont quote me on it though)

  • Hi guys great vidie, I have been on the street, for almost a year, wing 237,Mckelvie wing. Seeing a lot of that stuff brings back good memories. That bit at the end when you get to wear the blank epalets is just the best.

  • wot a cool lil incite. our eldest is joining we look forward to hearing about it

  • they will love it! make sure they are prepared to work hard though :) if they cannot iron properly then start giving them the family ironing to do. its something that the instructors and gym teachers check for - creases and all!

  • Have to be pretty spot on with my ironing aye? Id hate to admit it but sounds like something i need to work on! cheers for that

  • Passed my final PAT on tuesday and im on wing 250 woohoo! Cant wait

  • Well done! Here's a couple of Q's though: How much notice were you given before you had to sit the PAT again? How long overall has your application taken and when do you start? I'm sitting waiting for my medical pack at the mo... The suspense is killing me, LET ME IN. lol

  • Got my medical pack in Nov and am due to go into college. My overall application process as taken ages! Passed the 1st pat back in may. Was ready to do the pct, medical extra straight away but they just drag it out. As for final pat test i got 2 months notice due to xmas but i think 4 weeks could be the norm. or 2 weeks in some cases.original figures 4 jan and feb have gone up by 20 recruits. I was told april and am in in feb, so just be ready in case

  • Sounds about right! ;-D I tested back in August and just passed mt PCT in December. I have heard intakes have increased also. Normally around 40 recruits now up to 80+ for the first few months this year. I have a feeling I'll be in the April intake, wing 451. See you there!

  • Make that Wing 251 ;-)

  • hey my partner has her final pat on 22ne and see is going to be in wing 250 as well!! She is so excited. Do u know the wing size?

  • Sweet Vid , those were the days ehh!!

i was wing 240 section 4 an AG number

  • Who do you turn to if someone steals your car or kills somebody you know? Stop trying to sound like a cool guy.

  • If u obey the law the police won't bother u.

  • Great video, thanks. I'm starting at the college early 2008. Good to see you can have a laugh and it's not too serious all the time ;-)

check out coppersdownunder dot com a forum for us wannabe cops and serving officers.

  • wow you guys put your wing video on youtube lol.

    I was in wing 241

  • Great vid. As soon as my stand down for the lasik is over I'll join up. Can't wait for feb.

  • Yeah likewise brother. Thanks for posting this 24brix! And don't forget guys that 'Police College' is on TV2 at 11:30pm on Thursdays.

  • But is the tv 'Police College' close to what we're going to be doing or is it all the easy parts and they cut out the hard parts ? lol

  • Great Vid!

  • Our time will come lol

  • Yea tauranga has long waiting list to but if you go somewhere like auckland you could get in pretty quick. But who wants to go to auckland lol.

  • Great video I can't apply until Oct next year and then i've got a two year waiting list for Christchurch.

    Sweet video tho :)

  • All looks good, makes me want to come back home and join. Yeah ,i'm a Oz copper in Perth.

  • one of the girls in my wing was a cop in broome!

  • What is her name? I'm based in a remote country spot in Wiluna, doing the hard yards.Cheers

  • does bring back memories.... pity about the brokebackness of their wing tho

  • P= Pride

    I= Integrity

    G= Guts

    Awesome vid!

  • GREAT!!! 245's only got 3 weeks left. Next thursday is our final prac, then following week is our Summ3!!!!!!!!!!!! Great video!!!
