  • One of the saddest.

  • i just love this its a rare gem !!!

  • so beautifull and essential...

  • Listening to this song on a Wednesday morning around 3:00 A.M. :)

  • Good Morning Thailand.

  • Impossible to pick a best song. These guys really represent America at it's best.

  • この二人でじゃなければできない曲だ。すごく感動した。

  • omg, i actually really like this song?!!

  • @chobiv7 Welcome to the club

  • Somewhere they can't find me

  • I'm singing this in a music course. This is my fav Simon & Garfunkel song

  • I'm singing this in a music course!

  • Its a shame i didn't grow up with this music, ohwell atleast I can still discover them :)

  • @MegaBrian1960 Yes! I am still "kinda" walking, living in my own home...just had my 61st birthday! Thank you for asking. I am planting masses of bulbs in my garden as a treat next spring. My parents just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary! So it has been 47 years now since I was paralysed, my Mom playing this song for me...this song still brings tears to my eyes...I never knew life was going to be so very good. Bless you!

  • I'm 17 and I can appriciate this music.

  • love it.

    thanks for posting.

  • somewhere they cant find me

    track 5

    from the album

    sounds of silence

  • It may have been a good song, I'll never know. Couldn't make it past the shite annoying advert.......why!?

  • この歌がSimon and Garfunkelで一番スキ

  • So damn hardcore...

  • This song sounds much better in those old vinyl LPs than today's CDs. But LPs are so rare nowadays They cost an arm and a leg too ... It's a real joy and comfort knowing their songs are still available on You Tube

  • This song sounds much better in those old vinyl LPs than today's CDs. But LPs are so rare nowadays They cost an arm and a leg too...

  • @999dapperdude LP's don't cost an arm and leg anymore. you can find great used vinyls for $4 onwards. i would guess a reissue of this song on an album could be around $12 or more. Vinyl's have been getting a small quiet resurgence these days as alternative/indie, under the radar music has been appreciating the format more. people have realized how awesome vinyls are.. the sound and the physicality.

  • @marokokisetter It still does in my part of town, unfortunately. Adding to this is the scarcity, even in the big city, of those joints selling them. On the upside though, vinyl resurgence seems to be catching on here too but it it is still in that first-step phase yet and is slow going...

  • tesss,,,,,,,,zzzz.|

    "},,,yup

  • @alrees661 Wow. A convert to LDS --AND-- you sang this at a church activity. Two strikes against your better judgement. Or maybe just one. I should apologize for joking about your religion choice. But considering they've funded some of the most bigoted legislature in California and consistently ignore the separation of church and state.... Naw... it stands at two strikes.

  • I was a convert to the LDS and at an activity, I sang this song and boy was I slated by the senior members of the Church. apparant;y they did not like the words breast, young love and the crime involved as described in the song.

  • i still love her...poor me

  • Instead of 25 dollars and pieces of silver Paul should have just robbed that liquor store for rent on Bleecker Street, am I right?! :)

  • I LOVE THESE GUYS:) COMING TO THE PALACE OF ALBURN HILLS, MI ON MAY 11 th......CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM:)

  • This song has always been a favorite song of S&G reminds me of my first love as i lay beside her, twenty years gone but will never forgotten.

  • dammmit i love them ..i love this song.....tyyyyyyyyyyyy god ty god.....

  • I still love you Natalie! ...fuck knows why...

  • I learned this song when I was in high school and that was like 20 years ago... Man I was so young then...

  • Nice tune!

  • hey - paul simon is a four foot gangsta! LOL - great song though - fabulous harmonies.

  • this song is very simple what makes it so cute:)

  • amazing song!!!

  • Haven't heard this tender heartbreaking song for decades....... i shed tears then, as i do now. This perfect duo could evoke emotions as no other group i've ever heard could. I wish they were still writing and performing......sigh!!

  • @HolyMotherofGrid

They are still performing!!! they're coming to Montreal soon. I hope i'll be able to buy a ticket to someone!!

  • I like this it reminds me of the states and a cooler time.

Dont worry about the lyrics too much just slide with the sound .

  • I have a hard time imagining Paul Simon holding up a store..... lol

  • ha! serves him right for robbing an off-licence! (lol)

  • One of my favorite songs, period :)

  • Truly quintessential modern poetry

  • bliss voices,..

  • I'm used to listening to the stereo version; now that it's in mono makes me feel their vocal is so perfectly blended...

    Very nice indeed!

  • Oh God, I love it :) So pleasant.

  • una cancion bellisima de simon and garfunkel

  • Happy Birthday, Paul Simon :) 68 today.

  • Anji,

What was that fingerpicking book called?

  • I will try to find it and let you know! I just moved and everything is in boxes... :)

  • I couldn't have said it better myself, Ghost, but who knows if that's saying much anyway. ^^;;

  • This is my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song. It's just so sweet and emotional. I think their music is so real compared to half the stuff they call music today.

  • @VegetarianGhost How ugly an attitude. You should be ashamed. The great artists of our age work every bit as hard as these two beautiful men did in their time and for you to dismiss them out of hand out of your own intellectual and aesthetic laziness you should be ashamed of yourself.

Listen to Kings of Convenience or Andrew BirdorBonnie Prince Billy or Bon Iver or Jose Gonzales and but you asinine luddite nostalgia back in your pants where it belongs. I love this song too. I hate your attitude

  • @RJackson808 Do you not listen to the mainstream music they play today!? I would dare say it's MORE than half that enters the 'load of rubbish' category, simply because a majority of artists are only interested in wealth and fame (pop music *cough cough*).

  • @RJackson808 OK, a little bit hard there. But, I agree with you in regards to Kings of Convenience, they remind me very much of S&G. Especially their song, 'Homesick'.

  • @VegetarianGhost my favourite s&g song too and I like your songs on your profile too! :) Peep Show. love it.

  • @VegetarianGhost less than half stuff. todays music SUCKS. im 16 and cant get enough of the beautiful vocal harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel

  • @VegetarianGhost I think their music is so real compared to 99% of the stuff they call music today.

  • Reminds me of a Folk song that Bob Dylan would do, But in a soother voice. lol

  • I love this song :)

I love the live version of it on "The essential Simon and Garfunkel"

  • this is so good that it is 2 different songs played simultaneously. simon's song is different to garfunkel's in mood and texture. brilliant

  • i adore this song. the guitar is beautiful and the melody is pretty, i love it!! can't get enough of S&G

  • made an typo haha, *S & G

  • They are the absolute best. I was 18 - not admitting what age I am now. Those were the very best years, not only for me, but for the music that was produced.

  • the faster version is called "somewhere they can't find me" the instrumental for that is called "anji"

  • wow--this is not the version of the song i was expecting!

there is another version that is faster and darker.

  • oh now I remember

the other version has another title: somewhere they can't find me

  • love this song

  • This song makes me believe in love.

  • Has anybody ever heard of a Band called Iron and Wine? They have a Simon and Garfunkel sound to them. I enjoy their music. You should check them out.

  • Iron and Wine are brilliant! And yes . . . they were definitely influenced by S & G

  • I can hear the soft breathing of the girl that i love

    F F F F G A F A C F E D C

    F F F F E F D F A Bb Bb Bb A

(unison.... oh suddenly top part takes melody)

As she lies here beside me asleep with the night

    C C C C C C Bb A G G G G

    A G F F E E D D C C D E

(bottom part..... then looks like its in 6ths but then oh bottom part again)

whats more, the song isn't in 4/4. the time signature changes based on the breathing and phrasing of the words

    GENIUS

  • How beautifully both of you could sing and so many wonderfuls songs you have made..I'm very happy to be part of this generation, so many talents we had.Thank Simon and Garfunkel

    M.Cecilia

  • you're breaking my heart ;)

  • This song is great!

And whoever said it was "retarded". Go back to 50 cent please..We don't want you here.

  • 50 holds as much weight and has as much cultural influence and importance as these 2 cats

  • 50 is in the pop charts now. This song was released decades ago. Try saying that about 50 Cent in 2040.

  • ...My life seems unreal,

    My crime an illusion,

    A scene badly written

    In which I must play....

    Du fehlst Polly

  • i have been lookin for this one my fav track of theirs

    thank u opas v much

  • America's wednesday morning song is still better...

  • The fact that you boast about it shows a great deal of immaturity.

  • this is REAL music.

imagine if everyone was still with the whole "love, peace, and music" thing rather then this modern day "gangsta, hate/depression, and money" addiction.

    i wish i was born in the 60s...just 30 years late :(

  • This coming from the guy who listens to Styles P - I Get High.

    Go figure.

  • if you were born in the 60's (say 1965 to split the difference), you'd be 16 in 1981. I'm guessing you're trying to say you wish you were a teen in the 60's?

  • You made a mistake, so an old song is retarded? Interesting.

  • polly,komm Heim...

  • Wonderfull song...great voices!!

  • memories...

  • i love this song, because it always get everything un-stuck from my head. its so beautiful, too.

simon and garfunkel truly are the best. of course, every once in a while u have to listen to crazy music that's not true music, like P!nk and stuff, but S&G is true music. U2, the police, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are good 2, but in a different way. Simon and Garfunkel is real music and nobody can deny it. S&G really is the BEST. sorry for the long comment but i love their music!!

    <3, goosemyfave

  • wonderful song....

  • A great classic!!!!!!!

  • This is a good example of the beautiful harmony that Paul and Art produced..........at their best....

  • just beautiful.

  • The title reminds me of the song "She's leaving home" of the Beatles. Cause then they sing: Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock as the day begins..."

  • Very beautiful song , and so sad at the same time. One of Very Best of S&G. Thank you!

  • AWESOME! I almost started crrying.. It's so beutiful<3<3

  • A true classic.

  • Simon and Garfunkel are the best!

  • matey who's upfront on the photograph showed above really looks like David Mitchell from peep show there!

  • can't see these two doing a hold up of any store let alone a hard liquor store ! still a great tune tho!

  • This one is more softly and Somwher... more agressive, but I like both.

S&G are a genius and nothing will change it...

  • The first time i heard this song was in 1987. I was also born in 1987. I'm glad my parents have a good taste in music!

  • Timeless. Just music.

  • The first time i heard this song i was 22 years old laying next to my sleeping 18 year old girlfriend in a single bed in a bedsit in Liverpool in 1987. I got out of bed about 12 times to rewind the tape so i could listen to the song again.

  • That's the best love "thing" I ever heard.

Hope u r still with her...

  • Alas we are no longer together but that night in Liverpool is still one of my fondest memories. Apart from the breaking the law and having to get away scenario the lyrics are pretty close to what was happening that night. Hair on the pillow, breasts rising and falling, the girl that i love. I still love the song and play it often but it will never sound as good as it did on that cheap tape player in liverpool in 1987.

  • the two songs (this and Somewhere they can't find me) tell the same story from the same perspective, but with entirely different perspectives. This is more about the man's pain and distress about never seeing his Love again. It isn't clear whether he is turning himself in or running, but either way he is paying for his crime through the loss of this woman who he can't stand to be away from.

  • But "somewhere they can't find me" tells the story of a criminal who will miss his Love, but ultimately is looking out for himself and is running only to benefit him. It wasn't just a rock oriented remake, but rather a different story with the same words.

Paul and Art are great at telling stories.

  • The lyrics seemed SO familiar... Somewhere they can't find me: I can hear the soft breathing of the girl that I love, As she lies here beside me asleep with the night. Her hair in a fine mist floats on my pillow, Reflecting the flow of the winter moonlight. But Ive got to creep down the alley way, Fly down the highway, Before they come to catch me Ill be gone. Somewhere They Cant Find Me...
  • somewhere they can't find me was written after this basically as some sort of rock oriented remake

  • perfect harmonies just perfection the only word to describe this masterpiece is ...PERFECTION

  • An odd song, this, but a classic I'm sure. Timeless.

  • I want to thank my mother (may she rest in peace) for let me listen to this kind of music when i was 10 years old:) This is timeless, thanks mom.

  • putain cette musique est tellement bonne! les français en rafolent et les foncedés ossi! =)

  • this song is awesome!!!!

  • such a beautiful song... it makes me cry

  • One of S&G's best. Soft, harmonious... Paul Simon is one of THE greatest musicians of all time.

  • i agree it's a good song - but don't you go robbin' no booze shops, southerner!! that's no way to get a impress a girl in the credit crunch...just go and rob a bank instead...nobody will care...

  • Rob a bank? The banks haven't got anything to rob!!! (Besides, us Southern Softies wouldn't do that sort of thing anyway!!!) ;-)

  • it was written 40 yrs ago. lol

  • When I was age 15, I lay in my bed at home paralysed by ms. My Mom endlessly played this album on my mono turntable for me. Now, at age 58, after finishing my degrees, having a career, marriage, I listen to this beautifully harmonized, acoustic guitars, 2 minute song and realize how awesomely beautiful life is...ty, S & G - & ty for downloading this...

  • that's a beautiful story :)

I was about that age too when I started to listen to them... and have never stopped!

I'm 31 now. And, I will be 80 and still listening to them!

  • Thank you! I am now 59, have had ms for 45 yrs and still walking(kinda:-), driving and living independently in my own home. Life is good - grab it, because it goes by fast;-)

  • @autumncornsilk , Bless you, my father suffered with MS for 51 of his 73 years.

  • @autumncornsilk Are you still well? I read your post and it inspired me to do more. Thank you.

  • @autumncornsilk oh god his account is closed, he probably died ;_;

  • This song just makes me feel so great!! and sad its my one way to get away from the world for a while.

  • their songs are so beautiful i just cant get enough of them

  • brill lyrics

  • a great song. i like the acoustics.

just can't relate the tenderness of the song to the character's crime

  • It's a shame this album was such a huge flop. But not containing and 'pop' melodies, it was doomed to fail (which is indeed a shame with contemporary music. Regardless, several Simon originals dealing with suicide and nuclear destruction are certainly very well written and performed.

  • Didn't know it was a flop. This is my favorite ..

  • I loved it back in 1965, and it's still my favorite of all their albums. This particular piece always seemed utterly heartbreaking to me: young man does something impetuous and incredibly stupid and only later realizes what it's going to cost him. All that insight summed up in just over two minutes of beautiful harmony. Perfection.

  • I agree... feelings many of us can relate to. I love that image: "I can hear the soft breathing of the girl that I love"... it just seems like such pure love... almost bring tears into my eyes, as those moments in life are so unique, rare and precious.

  • shweet tune

  • Es una cancíon que me trae mucho con que relexionar. Por la mayor parte.......bien

  • Wonderful song. At the end of it all I'd like it to be a life well-lived.

  • aunque la canción es triste, increíblemente la he usado siempre como cancion de cuna para mis hijos y siempre les ha encantado. es una pura delicia para los oidos.

its sad, but all my kids love it. ive used it as a lalabie and they get so relaxed and ask me to sing it again. purely delicious!

  • the melody & the vocals are simply divine, but the lyrics are a bit disturbing...

  • 'disturbing' as in sad-- VERY very sad!

  • very sad yes, but some lyrics at the beginning are pure poetry.

  • my thoughts exactly!

  • this song is incorrectly labeled. the actual name is "somewhere they can't find me."

  • oops! nevermind, i was wrong. apparently both of those songs start out with the same lyrics.

  • Actually "Somewhere They Can't Find Me" is a rewritten version of this song.

It's one of two songs in "The Sounds Of Silence" album that was reused from their first album, "Wednesday Morning, 3AM" The other, which is exactly the same song as before but with a band dubbed onto it, is "The Sounds of Silence"... meaning that both title songs are on both albums.

  • with each successive album their individuality as artists grew. i always think of this album as part of the greenwich village folk contingent. don't get me wrong, it's great, but paul's voice as a remarkable and identifiable songwriter had yet to emerge.

  • this song makes me feel all warm and happy inside.

  • Um, the dude's going to lose the girl he loves forever because he committed armed robbery. I think the song actually evokes really sad feelings.

  • I know. Come to think about it, i feel sad and happy at the same time. dunno why but there you go.

  • I think that the song is an allegory for civilization. The young love is the world.

  • I don't think allegorys exist. haha. Just kidding. Good thinking.

  • can you suggest any free sites that can teach me how to play the song accurately... this is a great number!!

  • I purchased a fingerpicking book that had about 15 paul simon songs in it. I can't remember it off hand... i just learned how to play it one bar at a time. This one isn't in it unfortunately but... maybe the guy has released more.

Good luck, let me know if you have found anything! Thanks!

  • One of the most greatest songs in history

  • I don't know what to say about this song... The two voices together... This is great! I just keep listening it in loop.

  • Simon and Garfunkel are the best duo this planet has ever known

  • awesome song

  • Great song.

  • love it :)

  • prima!

  • si prima! Me encanta!!!

  • This wonderful, i love this song
