  • you call this major? i've seen WAY bigger!

  • @skauter66 how big was it?

  • what broke anyway

  • Unfortunatly most of them don't break in the summer

  • Not to mention that you do NOT just spin the valves closed as quick as you can... They have to be closed slowly to prevent water hammer from blowing something else up...

  • So my point is, the entire process can take some time. Its not like calling 911, and 3 minutes later everythings ok lol

  • yeah, people always groan "what took them so long to shut it off!!" i`ll give an example: Last Sunday night, at 12 midnight, I was called in to work for a reporter main break. Took 35 minutes till I was at the yard, another 15 before the entire crew was there. 20 minutes spent warming up and loading the trucks and backhoe for the job. When we arrived, 2 of the 3 valves needed to shut the main down were paved over. BY the time we jackhammered them out and shut down, 2 hrs had elapsed

  • @KDET10 Sounds like the story of my life.... people have no idea what's involved to shut down and fix a mains break. Especially at 3am in the middle of winter with all the valves covered and somehow the press are already there pestering.

  • Sometimes it takes awhile to find the valves.

  • would be a very funny place to play, in summer
