it's not the same culture around sports fanaticism....you just try and support your team by making it harder for the other team to play in your stadium. its not like the premier league where you just sing your heart out and pretend like it actually gives your team an advantage
Georgia Tech first played the "Budweiser Song" as a tribute to then head football coach Bud Carson (1967 - 1971) in 1970. It has remained a tradition since.
From the Wisconsin athletics website:
"Band director Michael Leckrone said the song's popularity got started at a 1975 hockey game ... Leckrone said the song became a football tradition after a 1978 come-from-behind victory over Oregon."
So there you have it, Tech fans. Never let a Badger give you that BS ever again!
Georgia Tech bands play "When You Say Bud" regularly at GT sporting and alumni events. The band first played the song in 1970 as a tribute to then-head coach Bud Carson, and the tradition has remained strong. "Bud" is played between the 3rd and 4th quarters at football games, during the second half of Tech basketball games, as well as during volleyball matches, and as part of the 7th inning stretch in baseball games.
Band director Michael Leckrone said the song's popularity got started at a 1975 hockey game. "The crowd wanted to hear a polka," he said. "I didn't have any polkas. We had, just by accident, this beer commercial in the tunes we play. I told the band if we substituted the word Wisconsin' for Budweiser' it would work."

considering the song was written in the seventies, i have trouble believing that. from what i hear, wisconsin started using it the year AFTER tech started playin it. Go Georgia Tech, when you say BUDWEISER, you've said it all!

Unrelated origins. Wisconsin didn't get it from Tech, but yeah, GT definitely had it first.

well yea i know they use this song at other schools as well... just like marching bands all play the same crap
i've heard bands all play Earth Wind and Fire... etc
But yea, i think Budweiser once sponsored us and also Georgia Tech IS known to be a "drinking school with an engineering problem"
