@gerithebiker I think it is one of a series of Kellogs city centre criteriums run in the mid to late 1980's in Britian. Kelly, Roche, Millar, Yates and other continental pros rode against British based riders. As you can see it was very cut throat at the end- the home pros really wanted to prove a point but Sean was having none of it!
I don't think so!! Sean rode for weaker teams before he joined PDM in the late 80's and never, as far as I can remember, blamed others. He just got on with riding his bike as fast as he could. Left a small village with no foreign language skills and made his way i n the toughest sport in the world. A great man in anybody's language.
@Busseto What a strange thing to say......couldn't be more wrong if you tried.Kelly was no whiner and as for sore loser, nah, yer mistaken.Did he step on your toes or something?
what a legend , my dad worked on the buildings in Ireland with him and i got to meet him last year , he still remembered my dad , true man of the people ,p.s love his commentary on eurosport
A true champion and a great man. Inspired me as a teenage cyclist in the 80's. Sent him a painting once and cheekily asked him if he had a spare Tde F jersey. He said he had to give them to his mechanics etc but we kept in touch (sending signed photos and hats and even postcards when he was on holiday )Then one day, out of the blue, a signed jersey from the Tour of Spain arrived in the post. Gobsmacked! My one true hero!
Sean Kelly. Legend. Humble. Hero.

A true champion ? Definitely yes
A great man ? Definitely not , as far as I remeber him I would say he was instead a childish whiner & a pathetic sore looser .
Far to be among greatest legends of cycling .
