*sigh* I did this morning... surprise, surprise... the Spydie Co. Tenacious got me too... lmfao just got it in the mail... same place as cutlerylover but perpendicular to the edge of my thumbnail not across it - my thumbnail stopped it going to the bone fortunately it didn't split the nail.
I think they chose the right name when they called it Tenacious... it really is a vicious bugger lol.
If you buy it, expect to get cut... until you're used to the feel of it.
Good tips. From what I understand from a legal point of view a in a self-defense situation a slash is easier to defend as defensive and a stab can be considered offensive in a court of law.
Stabing could be deadly, even if i had to defend myself i think stubing is not the best option. Anyway really cool vid, i do love your ideas ;] I am not keen on emersong feature, even if it is handy and helpful, i dont know i just dont like this ;P
Oh man ... Would be better if you had done this videos some time ago^^ Recently i destroyed my Spyderco Endura 4 because i tryed to baton the regular way during camping ;D
About time someone put on a video you don't need Carbon steel to strike a ferro rod. It annoys me to no end when someone mentions striking a ferro rod requires a certain steel. I use a rock my nephew gave me, and it hasn't failed me.
Watch out on the MeyerCos. My MaxxQ (recurve blade) developed a crack from behind the thumb stud on the spine of the blade. The thumb studs impact the handle scales when the blade locks open. Maybe I just got a dud, these new MeyerCos do look/feel nice. Good tips. Thanks for sharing.
I will add only to this vid, that magnesium blocks are absolutely useless. Magnesium, when ignited will not stop burning; however, the ignition point of magnesium is extremely high. No fire that you can ignite in the wilderness will get magnesium combustion started. None.
@YoungBrave2006 Unless you scrape dust and shavings off one and ignite it with a firesteel. It's used to start fires, you don't try to ignite it after the fire is going and you don't try to burn a whole block.
In army combative training course we seen pics where a guy was slashed over 30 times and lived while another guy was stabbed once and died. I would used slashing movement during entry.
I am a firm believer of fixed blades in a survival/camping situation, with a folder being a backup knife only. Always have a backup...as the saying goes, "one is none, and two is one!"
Great vid im glad you prefer fixed blades. I think most of the people i watch on youtube focus on folders and i love fixed blades as well so i always appreciate your. Ideos.
gavkoo, at 6:52 you show the notch on the blade, i don't understand what that is for... and i didn't hear what you called it. can you please do a video and explain why you notch the blade like that and what it is used for... please ....lol. thank you sir
@evcrawfish its a wave its so when you pull the knife out of your pocket it will catch onto to your pocket and the blade will open as you pull the knife out
@miner1821 very cool, thanks. i used your info and researched on utube and saw a vid on how to do it. thank you very much.... only problem is "i just had to modify my spiderco" LOL... and wouldn't u know it, i cut my finger... oh well, it was worth it, because now my spidey has a wave.
I find you can accidentally put a pretty substantial force on the lock when you cut into something that causes the blade to get stuck, like wood, or a pumpkin, then you instinctively pull the blade back up. Although this force is still pretty small.
Great video gavkoo I agree with you about locks the only ones I dont like are back locks the traditional lock knife locking mechanism I have had the lock snap on me in heavy use before because of course in push down tasks your putting the pressure right on the lock bar I cant comment on axis locks as I have no experience yet so far I prefer liner or frame locks and yup fixed blades are best. Plus if you used a couple of metal wedges you could plank an oak tree its medieval tech for timber gather
Nice vid with good info too
