I'm assuming she's been training for almost 20 years. She's 36 now and she studied dance in college, so if she started at 18,19, that's about 17, 18 years.

Plus, some people just have an extremely flexible body. My belly dance teacher has studied with her and can move like her and she only trained for four years. So I'm sure that is a factor.

pity that oriental dance at the ME is going from bad to worse.Our problem is that no body care about the dance, they do not consider it as an Art or culture. The commercial wave of the dance(hotels, bars, films) is hug and pushing the dance in a dark corner,WE are fortunate to have this passion and devotion from the dancers and people here to let the dance survive and a universal Art.

I agree with Jawahir. I'm Arab and I think Rachel is one of the best dancers in the world. Most of the new Arab dancers shouldn't even be called that. They're not dancing, just doing random slutty shaking. I personally prefer Rachel's work because it's artistic while the rest dance like strippers. That's shameful. Plus, bellydancing is not just joyful. Egyptian style is happy. Tribal is more precise. Some dancing in the Gulf and Iraq is done for mourning.

I could not agree more, HnFool. I will never forget the time I showed my friend a Rachel Brice video. He said it was okay, but then showed me one of HIS favorites: a busty, big butted chick with long hair and a tight outfit. She really didn't do anything special at all; it was more like the "slutty shaking" you described. Even worse, there was a whole LINE of dancers behind her who were exactly the same!

Where I live, people think of belly dancing as sex, sex, sex...not as an art.

i think it is vey unfair for you to jump to such a conclusion. had you actually been at this show [which, obviously, i was] you would of seen a hell of a lot of audience interaction, this particular song happens to be the only slow piece in the set... the others were very upbeat and lots of fun! and not to mention rachel herself! if you ever meet her you will discover that she is always a barrel of laughs...on and off stage. so maybe think twice before you judge someone so quickly
