I don't understand why deregulation, choices, and competition among businesses is bad. She even said that regulated airline industry had more expensive flights, it "wasn't for everybody." And that was better because why? Having one phone company and a bill you're unhappy with is better simply because there's no choice? It doesn't take THAT long to find a good flight price. This is bizarre.
@marce11o could it be that he's talking to fran lebowitz, i know i would seldom just let somthing slip out without making sure it wasn't something stupid.

All I heard was 33 minutes of Fran complaining: About how she voted for Obama but wasn't really thrilled with him; about the lack of true 'working class jobs' (even though she says Henry Ford made them very unsatisfying); about how labor unions don't have enough support. Complaining about Carter's deregulation of the airline industry, and remembering the good old days when all airline tickets were the same price (yet no one could afford them). Her nostalgia didn't sound that attractive to me.
There's a great BBC doc "The Century of the Self" explaining the deliberate transformation of the American public from thinking of themselves as workers, to thinking of themselves as consumers. watch?v=IyPzGUsYyKM
IT is time for OW to go grassroots. small groups popping via a twitter message. like OW meetings for the afternoon or evening and getting the word out about who what OW is. get the word out to the masses and out of the hands of mainstream media's blitz campaign. because sooner or later the govt would/will close down the camps in the downtown districts. so the venue needs to change. deliver the message a little differently.
No one knows the difference between a Progressive, a liberal or what a democrat-socialist is. Perhaps Ineptocrat would eliminate confusion to define all 3?
Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
@tita4ewa Please listen to her arguements. It really doesn't matter how big her paychecks are. Remember: Don't fight the players; fight the game. (And she might not be poor, but she is definitely even the opposite of a "player".)
@tita4ewa : Yeah I would too. I guarantee you her paychecks are a tiny fraction (like < 0.001%) of what Wall Street bankers rake in, even in losing years, even in the same years they were bailed out by We the People. If you seriously think someone like her is a member of the "elite" you're just totally brainwashed. Hope it feels all tingly.
Both Mussolini and Hitler based their politics on the middle class. Hitler used the term "petty bourgeois", which is a Marxist term, and was explicit about why - the middle class hates the working class as much as he did. Do a word search on Mein Kampf, which is available free at the Gutenberg Project.
About time the truth about this Middle America fantasy came out. If you need over time to make six figures, YOU ARE NOT and HAVE NEVER BEEN Middle Class
Fran ask where Bloomberg is. He has a mansion in Bermuda. Our business associates used to be his grouds keepers, and the grounds were massive. This is only ONE of his homes. Yes, she is right, where is the indignation???
I'd like to know too. And as to the wanting in and out. The establishment looked a lot different when Fran and I were in our teens. Honestly, most everything she said is correct...like about the super committee. A very intelligent chat. Nice post.
good last question . they keep the materials things lose the numbers. companies and such go to the federation for shared wealth. everyone is equal same pay job dangers or advancements give you better living allowances like more kids bigger house more toys. it could be just like star trek a friggin utopia here on earth im telling you its right there grab it.
if they are giving curfews watch out. everyone knows what the agenda is we all know what needs to happen what change needs to happen. you can say it with a look time to work together to grow and expand its getting crowded on this rock. the scraps of resources we fight over are just a crumb on the floor of the feast of knowledge and endless resources out in the universe. we need to be a federation all the countries working together to make earth its first priority then each other then self last.
The counter culture is irrelevant because they have been placated by the entitlements and subsidies. And when those entitlements and subsidies end, and they will, all hell is going to break loose.
Those who run this government are inching towards a confrontation they expect to win. As shown in the expansion and militarization of our domestic control grid.
1984 wasn't a business plan, but it was Hillary Clinton's favorite book.
In the early years of our republic, corporations were greatly mistrusted - after all, the revolution was sparked by our hatred of the East India Co. manipulation of our economy with the help of Britan - and she's right in saying that we were founded to smash the aristocracy, but what we have now is a new kind of aristocracy - namely corporations.
She doesn't think like a school girl. Rand is loved by people who are still emotional adolescents. Lebowitz excels in observational humor, irony, and much sarcasm. Rand didn't even comprehend what those are, and neither do her cultists.
@LordBalto Yeah Fran is great we should petition her to give up 99% of her fortune to help pay off the debt so the rest of the 1% can follow her lead! I'm sure she has the integrity not to take advantage of tax loopholes & doesnt hide her money in a untaxable foundation right? Think about all the Billionaire Democrats that hide their money in foundations this would be a great 1st step to paying off the debt so our kids wont have too!!
I like it when someone dismantles ideologies: "When you hear a rich person say they are "giving back", here is my advice to them: "don't take to begin with"." Thumbs up!
"The sound of money in this country is deafening."
All of Lebowitz's comments are forcing me to look at things in brand new ways. I'm particularly surprised that there was EVER a time where lawyers and doctors were actually respected. These talks make me wonder:

In record stores there are posters
romanticizing despicable thugs like Scarface. It's ire-ronic that Scorsese made it his mission
to make hideous gangsters palatable &
now seeks to cover his cultural tracks
by doing docufilms on George Harrison or Fran.
If Leonardo & Michelangelo
romanticized the barbaric & heinous
I doubt we'd be calling it the Renaissance .
Dickens did not see his mission as making Scrooge luvable. Artistic culpability is in play.
Average Joe won't grow.

Abuse of power operates best when the people are docile.
Eventually the docile are forced to face facts.
The awakening of curiosity often result in more truthful cultural phenomena that ignites new realizations
& can transform into a majestic renaissance.
Breaking set patterns - usually left to Shamans
who need psychedlics like peyote to see anew.
The alternative is the tribe is trapped in confusion, retro-stagnant habitual patterns and a dowsing of
the flame of nurturing curiosity.
