This video downloads much faster and has the best quality out of several others on YouTube of Klimova & Ponomarenko's free dance at the Olympics & Worlds in 1992. Needless to say, almost 20 years later they and their routine are as astonishing as ever.
they were always my favorite pair. Even her hair plays a part in the dance. The choreography is perfect and outside of Torville and Dean, who are more contemporary dancers, Marina and Sergei are the best. I wish someone would post their performance to Tchaikovskys' 5th symphony performed the following season as professionals. Equally as beautiful as this one.
A WONDERFUL program from one of my favorite couples. Just superb. Their technique is so clean, so precise, their body line and free leg extensions perfect. Really I cannot understand why the judges did not give 6.0 to this routine!
É espetacular!! Vejo essa apresentação de todos os ângulos possíveis!! É perfeita!! Só pode ser apreendida por todos os sentidos e não só a visão. Sempre me arrepio...
I agree with the comment about how Ice Dancing has lost its artistry, but it was terrible back then to see the teams move up one place every year, unless the top team didn't move on, and then everything was at a standstill.
There was never any surprise as to who won under the old scoring system.
...But oh, how I miss seeing performances like this.
A memory from the times that the Ice Dancing sun shone brightly on the master couples. Regulations have since then killed any initiative to dance to classic masterpieces.. Maybe we will be called happy because we witnessed
The early 90s were the golden age of ice dancing IMO. K&P had fierce competition from U&Z, D&Ds, and the top 5 couples had amazing talent and technique. I guess that explained the 5.7s. Also, as beautiful this dance was, it was loaded with many lifts, perhaps not enough interconnecting footwork. I don't agree with the marks at all, and I was as surprised as you at such low marks for a masterpiece.
If Torvill and Dean's Bolero could ever be equalled in content and emotion, this FD is it.
This is absolutely my favourite programme of all time, skated by my favourite team of all time.
The only other team which stole my heart to this extreme was Annesina and Peizerat, whose Romeo and Juliet was wonderful, and second only to this one.
My goodness. This is one of the best dances of all time, and certainly one of the top few teams in history. They are so beautiful and I adore that ending when they collapse into a full embrace. How lovely.
Thank you for this footage! I have it at some VHS tape - but in the meantime I loose VHS, so one of the thing that I missed most was this wonderful performance.

No one has ever surpassed or equalled K. & P. I'm so inspired by this performance. It doesn't get any better than this.

Amazing lines on such difficult program. Shocking that the speed doesn't change throughout the lifts.

That was beautiful! So intricate but they make it look so effortless. One of my favourite dance teams!

I completely agree. Now ice dancing is more an athletic performance than a work of art.

...And there should have been perfect sixes from every judge.
How could anyone award that a 5.7?
It simply could NOT have been skated any better, period.
That was sheer perfection.

And both programs were choreographed by Shanti Rushpaul :) She also created Grischuk & Platov's 'St. James Infirmary Blues' FD.
