  • The Clash came out of the 80's enough said!

  • Look how the bass player on the right is sliding around at 3:15

  • whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

  • Can we not erase the 80's from our history books? Jesus, nothing but bad taste, stupidity and money-obsession.

  • @titusbeertsen Hey Hey Hey now!

Them's fightin' words. The 80s were awesome!

  • @eileenh28 My hate for the 80's are mostly the 60/70's values that were killed, the music was COMPLETELY dumbed down (almost all 80's songs seem to have that horrible electronic drum beat), intellectualism was suddenly a bad thing (punk scene hmm?) and money became the 'Visible God' after the love&freedom ideals of the 60/70's. You tell me ONE good thing about the 80's, please!

  • @titusbeertsen And the 90s the 00s and 10s? are much different? Atleast in the 80s they knew they were being stupid...NOW? Everyone is bad taste stupid and money obsessed except they dont know it. 80s they knew it and was dared to go further.

  • Chromeo should cover this!

  • are those "cream" filled pies? after all, all you think about...

  • Gotta love those 80's dances. >.>

  • The best thing about Sparks, (to me), was, they never took them selves seriously, but that intent wasn't so obvious to a first time viewer of their videos! If you like the static posturing in this vid, check out videos by the German band, "The Twins", their music is great, and probably the 'best band that you've never heard of before'. LOL (at least in this genre)

  • Jesus, I have to admit, I used to dance like that...

  • Ha, that bouncy 80s two-step (LOL at the Carlton comments)...the shoulder pads...the eyeliner! Gotta admit, digging the pie-throwing.

My funny misheard lyrics for this one...first couple times I heard the chorus, coulda sworn Russell was singing "All you ever think about is juicing me" (the line actually goes "All you ever think about exclusively").

  • this is tha business!!

  • EXCELLENT, classic 80's : ) !!!!!

  • Wow the stache doesn't look all Hitler-y in this one, it looks more silent movie-ish in this now. LOL

  • is that david kendricks on the drums? does anybody know?

  • i dont know what you're talking about in the description this video's awesome.

  • ok guys the bass line at the start the den de den is A AA you can do that on A string open or E on fret 5 then the verse is for guitar or bass FRET 5 ON E STRING WHICH IS A THEN ITS A STRING ON FRET 5 WHICH IS D THEN E STRING TO FRET 3 WHICH IS G THEN THE CHORUS A G AG D G A

  • i love Sparks!! i love how he is killin the carlton lol go Russell!

  • There are some great synthbeats in this track and LOL at the pies

  • 1 Person is A-Sexual.

  • 1 person wants to see Ron covered in more cream

  • This song makes me want to fuck someone really bad! But a wank will have to do for now I guess.

  • Some of those pies are thrown pretty hard!!

  • "...and Ron is covered with pie."

You have no idea how much your little review of the video made me laugh.

  • Oh man I love this video! Ron's reaction to the whole pie-in-the-face thing is just priceless. It's a subtle kind of meta-humour I think. He's the straight man so let him take a pratfall, and let it go unobserved by the others. It's pure genius by the way.

  • Brilliant band and a bit of Auschwitz chic in there with the pattern of the suit.

  • I learned how to dance from this video.

  • I also think the whip cream is supposed to be sexual innuendo.

  • I first saw this a few years back and I think it's hysterical. In fact it's my favorite of their videos. It's subtle, whereas most "funny" videos made today would attempt to bludgeon you over the head with a sledgehammer. I personally think this was their way of giving a sly middle finger to MTV. "Yeah, we'll give you the typical, ultra-serious looking performance video...but Ron is going to get hit in the face with a pie over and over." I don't know...I love it.

  • I'm glad you later say that you like the song, but most people are going to see the part about you hating the video.

  • How could you think of anything *but* sex with these guys around??

  • Think the problem with this video was probably record company-related. I mean, in the 1980s videos where BIG and overblown. This is done on a shoestring.

Shame on you, treating Ron and Russell like that!

  • Как же мы колбасились под эту весчь на дискотеках !

  • i heard similarities to a'll my life' by kc and jojo when the chorus kicked in...

  • sparks is the best band in the 80", truly is !

  • this is by far the best single hit by the sparks, supeb, ! i like it a lot.great for dance too.

  • THE sparks are sure screwy!!!

  • I was introduced to Sparks with this album when it was released, and I loved it. Tried to listen to some earlier stuff and hated it. Saw "Kick Ass" and heard "This town ain't big enough for the both of us" and they have been one of my favorites ever since.

  • See, this is what too much money, cocaine and Ronald Regan will do. (the 80's)

    Let it be a lesson.

  • @yangyin09u Thank you! Finally, somebody who understands!

  • @yangyin09u I'll take as much money, cocaine, and Reagan as I can get my brother.

The 1980s are the key to fun living, fuck the now and its subscribers.

  • @WaxHeadroom It's all yours brother! ...and you can enjoy it all in General Noriega's house in Panama City, Panama. It's unoccupied at the moment so we'll put your name over the threshold if you'd like. I'll take the sex! P.S. Reagan is gonna stink like hell when you dig up that bad actor.. Better stock up on some 20 Mule Team Borax. (and please, don't cut the coke with it) ..

  • fricken good times love the 80s

  • I love it!

  • Sparks sure knew how to combine funny lyrics with cathcy tunes, this song is only one of the many examples. Makes me wanna listen to it over and over again. And the seemingly pointless video just makes it even better. I wonder how those pies tasted...

  • BEST. VIDEO. EVER.

  • I would love to see this song covered by a female artist. It's something a lot of women complain about, but never sing about it.

  • so what if they snorted an 8ball each before they filmed this? The music industry has always been fueled by cocaine, and at no point more than in the 80's.

  • Who is the cretin who wrote all the crap about this video? Best song ever

  • @christfersmart1 That would be me...and I stand by my critique of the video.

I do like the song, however (as I keep saying!)

  • Thank goodness... Saw Sparks in the "80z at The Greek threatre, L.A,. Lord do I miss good times...

  • Thank goodness...

  • damn this song still rocks

  • Holy Crap! he's doing the Carleton!

  • Hahaha, nice Video*****

  • I love it!

  • What's up with Ron getting doused with pies??? Is that a metaphore for something gross????

  • the premise and song rok.. he is getting alot of pie.. lol

  • I never even knew about this till I randomly came upon it in a record collection, and bought it but it wasn't a full album just an lp and on the otherside there was a song called dance god dammit

  • hahah fairplay to the guy on the keyboard getting attacked by pies in the background haha

  • i love rons smile

  • I think I prefer Russell without make up... O_o

  • Sparks. I love it!

  • video's so funny :D

  • On the other hand, Ron covered in pie doesn't bother me at all. Perhaps because it's pie, and Ron Mael, two great tastes which just might taste great together. One can only wonder.

  • Whenever I watch this video, when it first shows Russell dancing I think, "Oh, he doesn't look as bad as I remember." Then it cuts to that medium shot and I'm confronted with just how bizarre he looks with that makeup. It startles me every time. Not a good look at all, unless he was trying to emulate Baby Jane Hudson.

  • I think this song is from the same album that had 'we are a fun bunch of guys from outer space'

  • @captainkruse Yep, "Cool Places" is on this album too.

  • What's wrong with this video? This is the 1980s where everything was cheesy with big hear and big clothes.

  • I think this is a CLASSIC video...! Takes me back!

  • CUSTARD PIES! This isn't one of Sparks' finest, it hasn't aged as well as the Moroder stuff, but I still love 'em.

  • Is video and song is amazing.

  • omg Sparks have the coolest videos other than Devo

  • 1 O THER BEST

  • Those were the days.

    Lucky me - Lucky you.

  • I think this is a GREAT video AND tune...! Thanks for posting!

  • I had a relationship like this once.....

  • @author: what areeeeeee you talking about? the guy on keys is awesome! look at how happy he is to be covered in the pie! LOL

  • I think it's hilarious. A commentary on videos of the era... with cream pie.

  • @Creaturebuilder

LOL@ "And he is still complaining!"

    ROFL!

  • Sooo coool ... i still love it!

  • @RheingoldxxL

I think they've recorded better tunes. The early stuff, for instance.

  • Shit..the 80's didn't do a lot of good for brilliant bands like Sparks. Look at him dancing so uninspired here compared to in the 70's.

  • Im in love XD Me and my friend now sing this all the time

  • I love it! :D

  • The most expensive music video ever made! They pulled out all the stops on this one! Makes me think of the "Baby Doll" video in the movie Tapeheads... another 80's classic!

  • @sonicsnout Ninja bitches!

  • @sonicsnout

    How old is this song?

  • he looks like Will Ferrell

  • thanks i love this songs ^^ great

  • Russell looks like 80s Grace Slick. I'm just sayin'.

  • @Babaziba

I think he looks like Lux Interior of The Cramps.

  • ...and people wonder why I don't like this video.

But, if he wore 4" stiletto heels and leather pants like Lux owre, I would like this video much, much more.

  • I wouldn' t.

  • I don't know...I have to kind of disagree with the description. When I see cream fly into someone's face... I think of sex (ha)

  • haha sorry I didn't read the whole description of the video... My apologies.

  • what??

Sparks isn't BAD! WTF is the matter with you.

  • This is the 7 inch single version of this song. The one on the album In Outer Space sounds very different from this one.

  • I totally have to disagree with you eileenh28, this video is genious! My favorite music video of all the time :)

  • I'm glad you like it. I can't even watch the whole thing because I get too embarrassed.

  • Oh, but why? :)

  • Top to bottom, the best album I bought and listen to it, I swear, about every day for a year - Never heard of them till a friend who was hot for Jane Weidlan (or what ever her name is - from the Go - Gos) found where she was doing songs with these guys and bought the record. I borrowed it, taped while tearing down a garage in May 83 and listened to it later and it was the only tape I listened to that summer. To much info - oh well.

    Memories

  • i will never understand the pies. ... unless that's not supposed to be pies!!!!!! eeew. yuck!

  • I'n the world of lovers ..We don't love each other much' Forget the hair!

  • I always thought this video was more of a parody than a serious statement.

  • The look on Ron's face is priceless!!

  • Nah. I love In Outer Space, this is one of my Sparks' favourite songs and this video is great just to make fun of all the 1980s clichés. It was a silly, silly decade (in mainstream music), and Sparks - as usual - did well joking about it.

    * i was just too lazy and afraid of my bad English to write this comment here before.

    ;)

  • one of the better songs from In Outer Space, which I think isn't a very good record (too much 80's genericism and slickness, though some songs are catchy)

I like how Ron keeps getting hit with pies, but Russell's dance moves are terrible and I can't believe he though that hair and eyeliner was a good idea

  • One word: cocaine. Lots and lots of cocaine.

  • You really think so? I don't think their career would have lasted as long as it has if they had been serious drug abusers.

  • Check out the "Cool Places" American Banstand appearance. I'm convinced Russell is coked to the gills for that one. He's positively twitchy.

  • Maybe he was just overcaffeinated? I really wouldn't know since I don't think I've ever known any cokeheads. I still think people with a druggy past tend to look a lot worse for wear than Russell does these days, so I'm skeptical. (Plus I read some interview where he said he and Ron avoid unhealthy things.)

  • "Buy "Sparks in Outer Space," it is a good record, really!"

    I agree!!!

  • I do like it!!

  • I have another issue with this video: Russell's wearing too much eyeliner. (Then again, *everyone* wore too much eyeliner in the 80s.)
